Izzy’s Cheesesteaks

First time at Izzy’s! I enjoy when food trucks swing by our campus cause the food trucks are such a great food option (especially if you’re not walking distance to any other eatery besides the campus café).
STEPS
1) Choose the cheesesteak (I went with the Trifecta $ 9.50 — grilled onions, horseradish sauce, and au jus sauce)
2) Choose your meat (Ribeye or Chicken)
3) Choose your cheese (White American, Provolone, or Cheese Whiz)
All the other options looked great! Sriracha Mayo, RGM (Roasted garlic & mushrooms), or the Classic (grilled onions & sweet and hot peppers). Or go all out with a Triple Threat (comes with all the cheeses!) or a Bourbon Brunch (dat bourbon sauce doe).
They were out of fries by the time we swung by — but they sounded great on the menu (garlic fries $ 4.50 or garlic-​cheese fries $ 6.50). Izzy’s definitely did not disappoint!

Pretty good! Creative items like cheesesteak tater tots with garlic and mushrooms earn this food truck added points. I’ve had some cheesesteak greats in Philly, so I was hoping for some more flavor from the meat. Still, I enjoyed the Bourbon cheesesteak (with chili cheese Fritos on top)!

Disappointing. Ordered the Bourbon Crunch but it came without the «crunch”– Frito’s MIA. Paying a premium for the missing ingredient is not my cup of tea. As well I have first-​hand reports from an associate that he was informed, as his sandwich was being handed to him, that the au jus was MIA as well, and «was this OK». I ordered a cheesesteak, not a bucket of misdirection. I guess it’s my fault for not immediately verifying the presence of the Frito’s on the sandwich, but…
Fries, at 4.50, were overpriced.
The sandwich itself was OK but I am sorely disappointed with this au injustice and I feel like I’m owed a bag of Frito’s.

Best Cheesesteaks in the Bay Hands Down! I ordered the «Original» and added the hot peppers and it was screaming! It was so huge I actually shared it and was satisfied m! Owners are super cool and service was fast! Make sure to hit this truck up!

Yummy cheese steaks! I got the mushroom garlic and it delivered lots of juicy garlicky goodness. They use Amoroso rolls and everything. The garlic fries are good too, thin cut but not as flimsy as shoestring.
My husband is from Philadelphia and was happy. He had the Crazzy Classic, which I was skeptical about but it was delicious. Imagine a chimichunga but with cheese steak filling.
Service was great. Fast and the people running it are really nice. They have a vegetarian option?

I’ve had my good share of authentic cheesesteaks straight from Philly from Pat’s and Jim’s and have had some good ones here in the Bay Area from Theo’s, Phat Philly, and Phillies. And while Izzy’s Cheesesteaks might not be the most authentic cheesesteak I’ve ever had, it’s definitely one of my favorites. I’ve tried them many times but after having their Roasted Garlic & Mushroom Cheesesteak on just my first visit, I was instantly a fan.
The first time I tried them though (over at Off The Grid Burlingame), what interested me the most was the fact that any of their cheesesteaks can be ordered «Crazy Style» which means they’ll take the filling from any of their sandwiches, wrapped it up in a tortilla, and deep fry that sucker, which essentially becomes a cheesesteak chimichanga.
Roasted Garlic & Mushroom Deep Fried Crazy Style w/​with White-​American Cheese and Garlic Fries –
I’ve tried this sandwich in Crazy Style form twice both with White-​American Cheese and Whiz and while I did enjoy the White-​American Cheese, it’s all about the Whiz! Loaded with steak, garlic and mushrooms and the tortilla was nicely fried. It’s all in perfect harmony.
Although ordering Crazy Style is pretty good, in the end it’s all about ordering the cheesesteaks in their true form and with Amoroso rolls straight from Philly. That bread is key in creating the true authentic cheesesteak taste from Philly.
Roasted Garlic & Mushroom w/​Cheeze Whiz and Garlic Fries –
Back to this cheesesteak again and his time with the Amoroso Roll and it was soooooo gooood! As you can see from the pic they went for the gusto with the Whiz and I loved every bite of it! You can definitely tell it’s a no-​brainer that this one is my favorite!
Classic Cheesesteak w/​provolone, wit onions, hot and sweet peppers –
I got a taste of my friend Classic Cheesesteak and it was good too!
The Trifecta w/​provolone, grilled onions, horseradish, and au jus –
This essentially a Cheesesteak version of the French Dip. It’s almost like going to your favorite steakhouse and throwing everything in a roll. Delicious!
I definitely have to try their other cheesesteaks like their Muy Bueno which has salsa and cotijo creama, and their Srirachacha which as you guessed it, comes with a creamy sriracha sauce. They all sound really amazing!
Aside from their cheesesteaks, they also have some unique sandwiches that pop up on their menu from time to time like their Veggie Quin-​WHAT? sandwich and this interesting one I tried called Baby «Back» Choy.
Baby «Back» Choy w/​Whiz Garlic Fries –
This one definitely falls under most interesting category since it’s steak, with bok choy and garlic. But hey, it’s got some veggies in there which balances out the heavy steak and garlic. It’s definitely worth a try.
And one more thing to add, I love their fries! Definitely ask for their garlic fries and have them drizzle some Whiz on them. I like how they’re thinly cut and they fry them up really good to a perfect crisp. They go so well with all their sandwiches!
I have nothing but great things to say about Izzy’s Cheesesteaks. All their sandwiches are very solid and the owners are really cool! Like I stated earlier, they don’t have the most authentic cheesesteaks as you’ve seen from the menu above, and I’m perfectly okay with that. They’re trying to stand out from the rest of the pack and are doing an awesome job!

Caught up with these good people at Civic Center. One of the best cheese-​steak sandwiches I’ve ever had, plus generous portion.

Unless the chain, The Great Steak counts? Ok, that’s like saying Panda Express serves real Chinese food. I’m a little embarrassed that I’ve never tried a legit Philly Cheesesteak so I told a white lie. Kinda like how Kylie Jenner is telling people that she got that awesomely plump, dimple free ass from butt «pumping» cream. Uh huh, like how lip liner can create DSLs? (o_​O)
Back to the point, I’m a cheesesteak noob and have no clue about what qualifies a Philly Cheesesteak to be authentic or not. But, I do what tastes good…
Izzy’s serves up some delicious cheesesteaks ($ 8.50-$ 9.50). They offer 6 cheesesteaks (choice of Ribeye or Chicken, and White American, Provolone, or Cheese Whiz):
*Classic w/​or w/​o onions and hot & sweet peppers
*Crazzy Classic: Classic wrapped in a tortilla and deep fried
*Roasted Garlic & Mushrooms w/​American cheese, grilled onions
*Muy Bueno w/​cheese, grilled onions, pico de gallo, cilantro cojita cheese
*Trifecta: Classic w/​horseradish, au jus for dipping
*Srirachacha w/​grilled onions, cheese, creamy sriracha
They also have a hoagie and a vegetarian cheesesteak available that’s made with quinoa and beans. You can add fries (+$ 3) or Garlic Fries (+$ 4) to your meal. CC’s accepted.
I ordered Izzy’s Signature: Garlic & Mushrooms and subbed Cheese Whiz for American Cheese ($ 9.50) which was ready within minutes:
. It tasted as good as it looked. Between the lightly toasted and fluffy roll (shipped from Philly) was the über tender ribeye that was perfectly seasoned and smothered in creamy, melty whiz. It was deliciously beefy, garlicky, earthy, and subtly sweet from the onions. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients and the fantastic melding of flavors.
When I do order from food trucks, I usually share with another person. One minor gripe was the steak wasn’t evenly distributed in the roll so my half of the cheesesteak was mainly mushrooms and onions. I ended up picking off more steak from Mr. NSS’ half. I hope Izzy’s considers offering an option to add double meat in the future.
Can’t wait to try Izzy’s again the next time they’re at SoMa StrEat Food Park!

Drove all the way from LA to SOMA to try this much talked about food truck. Their Classic Cheesesteaks are awesome. But this is not your typical food truck. They cater to vegetarians as well. And their Quin-​what?! is just bomb !!! Not to mention the garlic fries. I also love that it’s family owned and not corporate. It is definitely worth the drive. Just had my first cheese steak sandwich from izzys… truly the bomb… so flavorful and tasty. Gotta try it… wide range of choices you can have your cheese steak allot of different ways. I think i will be back soon trust.

Good cheesesteaks are a bit hard to come by in San Francisco, so this was a nice treat. I still prefer Theo’s in Rincon Center, but Izzy’s solidly fits the bill if the truck happens to roll by where you’re at. And Izzy’s does have better fries!
Classic: Oddly enough, I really like the grilled onions. They stuck out to me the most because they were sliced very thinly and had a nice caramelized taste. The ribeye was good, slightly thicker than standard cheesesteaks, and pretty darn tasty. The sweet peppers were a bit too big for my tastes. Per usual, the Cheez Whiz was essential. Felt like a little too much bread for the amount of meat. The bread was tasty, just would have preferred more meat. Heck, I would have paid a few bucks more for a double size.
Garlic Fries: Loved the thinness and crispiness of these fries. Just the right thickness of shoe string so there is still some soft potato inside so it doesn’t entirely taste like a potato stick. Just the right amount of garlic, but could have used more cheese shreds.

They have no idea what a «classic» cheesesteak sandwich consists of. If you go there expecting a classic cheesesteak, SPELL OUT EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT ON IT. Meat, cheese, sweet peppers, and possibly onions. If you don’t, and order a ‘classic’ cheesesteak, you will get a flaming face full of jalepeno peppers because apparently to Izzy’s, «Classic» means «stupid hot». The classic I just got off of their truck made me gag from the jalepenos, and even after picking out every fleck of hot pepper I could find it was barely edible. Once again, hipster sensibilities ruins something good.

Stumbled across this food truck caravan in SOMA. 1^st time diner with Izzy’s and I must say they blew my socks off! Sprung for the Crazee classic. Damn good I must say! Was warned to be careful as the cheese smothered filling is Hot! Hot! Hot! Couldn’t wait to dig into this awesome sandwich! Melvin, the owner or manager? Was friendly and cordial. They run a cleanly, top-​notch operation. Looking forward to my next cheese steak with these gentlemen.

I had two garlic mushroom today. They’re so yummy! Our office still smells like garlic but no one’s complaining :)

My relationship with cheesesteak here is bittersweet. Quality has been very inconsistent or too pricey, and I can’t get any better cheesesteaks closer than Belmont. However, I was very happy with the meal I got from Izzy’s Cheesesteaks today.
Got to see them at Off the Grid in Menlo Park for Wednesday dinner. I’m super partial for classic whiz, but I figured I’d try their signature roasted garlic and mushroom. Big fan of mushrooms, but one of the biggest mistakes I see at shops is overpowering garlic. I didn’t see any of that here. Not raw crunchy garlic or overcooked mushy garlic, these bits had just the right amount of texture to them and the flavor was mellow enough for the rest of the sandwich. Rib eye was very tender, and the white-​American brought everything together flavor-​wise. And that nice soft bread is the icing on the cake! Definitely worth the $ 9.50 at the sandwich.

Pretty solid cheesesteaks. Was hankering for some American fare and it hit the spot. Trifecta is beef, onions, provolone, and a horseradish sauce. A side of au jus is provided if you want to hybrid french dip it. They also use the traditional Amoroso roll which gives it the right feel and taste from the bread perspective. The fries looked good but i didnt get any. Perhaps next time

I was so excited to see a cheesesteak truck at OTG (Serramonte.) No Asian or Mexican fusion gimmick (although I did see a sriracha-​topped one on the menu), just well made meat & cheese sandwiches.
I ordered a Trifecta ($ 9.50+tax) which is ribeye, grilled onions, provolone (white American or whiz is also available), & horseradish sauce. I opted for no au jus to make eating outdoors easier/​cleaner, but I’m sure it would’ve added amazing flavor. Everything from the toasty bread to the creamy sauce was incredible! Can’t wait to have another.
(Sidenote: I noticed quite a bit of fat on the meat, which I picked out easily b/​c I’m the weirdo who hates animal fat, but the person I was sharing with had no problems w/​it & agreed this was one tasty sammich!)

This truck came by my job about a couple weeks ago. Im a big cheesesteak person and this place is awesome. Perfect amount of meat and cheese whiz. I dont want to forget the french fries which are absolutely addicting.
Marvin and his wife do a great job running this truck. Can’t wait for them to come back!

Wow! Loved the shoe string fries and the bread was incredibly soft, but sturdy enough to hold things in place. They use ribeye and you can taste the quality. I can’t wait to try them again. I want more!
Great, friendly service. I first experienced them at a community outdoor movie event in Menlo Park. They do Off the Grid Menlo Park & Burlingame. And are expanding their reach. Yay for me.

Came across this truck randomly in Burlingame last week, and boy am I glad I stopped! I got the garlic and mushroom and was taken off guard by not only the quality of the ingredients, but also by the utter deliciousness of the cheesesteak (and garlic fries). Have yet to try the rest of the offerings but I can definitely say this has become one of my favorite food trucks!
