This place sucks. Purchased a tool which the staff here recommended i should use for the job i was doing. Turns out i didnt need it after all. Went back there to return the tool and i was told they dont do returns. Wtf, why wasnt i told tat from the beginning before i purchased the tool. Terribe customer service. Never going there again!

This is the neighborhood hardware store and they’re good for picking up little things like light bulbs, keys made, etc.
I’ve been here a total for three times in the last year or so and well, the guy (shaved head, middle-​aged) who manages the place have a habit of manslpanning everything. Maybe I look like I don’t know what I’m talking about or looking for when I’m in the store, but please don’t talk to me as if I don’t have a clue of what I want, especially when I’m showing you the item I wanted a replacement for. And for someone who manages a hardware store, guy should know that picking up the right size does matter, so please spare me the «it’s only x inches higher than what you want.»

Whatever you do, don’t answer your phone, even if it’s an emergency. That’s what I did and was treated like dirt by the owner. If he had simply asked me to get off of the phone, I would have stepped outside. Besides, I could have been talking to my plumber about what I came there for. I will never return.

If you’re looking for hardware and materials in SF and don’t mind coming out to the sticks, you should come here. Their prices are significantly less than the other Do It Best-​affiliated hardware stores in the city (Brownies, Soko, and Speedy’s at least), and their staff are super helpful. They have a good selection but this smallish store is definitely a more pleasant buying experience than you’d get at say, Home Depot. Main drawback is parking (street only) can be hard to come upon.

We are very lucky in the way outer Mission that we have a hardware store, drugstore, and lots of great places to eat for cheap instead of five Starbucks and a Crate and Barrel.
I will shop at J&J before I would ever go to Home Depot. The staff is very knowledgeable and they have almost anything you need for a quick repair or home project. For larger projects, they can get what you need within a day or so. I will always pick this store when given the chance. True, you might pay 25 cents less at Home Depot in Daly City, but it’s going to cost you a lot more to drive there from S.F. and the personal service at this place makes the only slightly higher prices well worth it.

Amazing mom and pop hardware store. The big box stores like Lowes and home depot may seem like they have everything. But they just don’t. This the only place that had my sidewalk drain cover. Visit these small stores often to keep them in business.

I have been living in this neighborhood for more than 10 years and I usually get whatever hardware I need from them until last weekend when we bought an item that needed to be returned.
We bought an item at around 10 am and since we don’t know the exact measurement, the guy said that we can exchange it as long as it’s not opened… They don’t have the size that we need so I had to return it. I returned it 4 hours after I bought it using a credit card and did not notice the amount refunded to me until I checked my account online… I was surprised the refund amount was $ 4 and some coins lesser than the amount I bought it for. So, I checked my receipt and I saw that the guy deducted 10% from the original amount and it states on the return receipt– 10% discount and the tax was computed from the discounted amount so that makes the amount of refund $ 4+ less than the purchased amount.
I went back to the store because I thought it was just a mistake since he didn’t give me back my original receipt (other stores staple the original receipt with the return receipt and give them back to the customers).
He said, there was a «restocking fee» of 10% on credit card transactions. I said how can there be a restocking fee when the item
was not even opened he replied «well we pay a fee when you use a credit card but if you pay by cash then you get refunded the full amount». Since I did not exchange it for a different size and returned it instead, I get to be charged a restocking fee which is actually a credit card fee… So, they charge their customers for using credit cards when they are supposed to pay for it because they are the ones doing business. If they don’t want to pay for the credit card fees then they should indicate «CASH ONLY», so that customers don’t get to pay for fees when they return items that for some reasons need to be returned (returns happen and are sometimes unavoidable). There was no return policy written at the back of the receipt so they can just implement whatever they want. There were some notes written at the check out counter but who would take time to read it when you are ready to check out.
I told myself not set foot in that hardware store from now on.
PLEASE DON’t purchase anything from them using a Credit Card if you are not sure of your purchase because if for some reasons you need to return the item, your credit will be more than 10% lesser than the original purchased amount. So aside from paying the interest on your credit card, you also pay for the credit card fees that merchants are liable to pay.

Quaint little place located on Geneva. Super friendly staffs and definitely on the younger side. Though it is a bit more expensive than corporate stores, this store have better staffs.

Inventory: small, but pretty complete. They may not have a thousand options of the thing you’re looking for, but chances are they’ll have at least one
Staff: Friendly and knowledgeable. I’ve never felt talked down to here when I had a question
Prices: Reasonable

These folks are great. The 2 guys I’ve talked with over the last couple years have great advice about almost everything a home-​owning
needs to know. Their opinions about shortcuts (when and when NOT to take them) have always been 100%. I was once duped by the «better prices» at big boxes stores, but the few cents I save isn’t worth traveling to them, and I’d much rather support the local businesses. Plus, J & J totally remodeled last year, and it’s much more pleasant to shop there.

I am always blown away by the youngish, low-​key staffer who seems to live in this store and to have a freakishly keen knowledge of all things hardware.
Here’s how it goes:
1. I walk in and ask the guy behind the counter for something random
2. He immediately nods and walks directly to the item
3. We talk about my project to make sure the item is a perfect match
4. A few witticisms are traded on the way back to the register
4. He charges me a totally fair price
5. I walk out smiling and ready to take on the world of D.I.Y.
Great neighborhood store that really comes through.

I dont wan’t to hear any complaints that you can find light bulbs 10 cents cheaper at Home Depot, or need to buy a truck load of 2×4’s with your nails. This is NOT a Big-​Box hardware store. This is great local hardware store that everything you were looking for, and a few things that you forgot you needed. The staff is helpful and friendly. When you explain a problem /​issue they understand what you need. Their inventory seems to be geared to the needs of the houses built in time of our neighborhood.
Save the travel time, shop local, and finish your project faster.

This place rocks. The people are REALLY nice and everything is very decently priced! What made it amazing for me is that they have a woman working there, which made the whole process of buying stuff in a hardware store much, much easier and much less intimidating, as I normally I feel so, so lost in hardware stores. My heart starts beating really quickly as I look around, gazing at stuff and I have no idea what it is, or what it is used for. But literally after 20 seconds after being in this store, after starting down the wrong aisle looking for doorknobs, one representative of the company sought me out and asked me what I was looking for. I told him, and he immediately guided me to the right place. I could have kissed him. He took me to a cabinet that was a haven of doorknobs and I looked, overwhelmed and glassy eyed, at all of them, trying to figure out which one to buy. I eventually chose the most expensive looking, sturdiest gray metal doorknob that I could find, and the man came back over and I told him which one I wanted. He retrieved it for me, and then I asked him about it, and explained what was wrong with my old doorknob, and whether I needed to replace it. He proceeded to tell me to skip the locksmith and to install it myself, and then he walked me through the steps of installing the knob into my door. I stared at him like he was an alien from another planet as he talked about what part to put in first and which order I should put the screws in, etc. Finally I said, «Man, this is what boyfriends are for!» And we shared a laugh. The lady who worked there overheard us and smirked too. I went up to pay for my knob and noticed some reflectors that would go perfect for my boyfriend’s bike, since he has none, so I bought him two and will give them to him on the successful installation of my knob. I also needed a key cut. The lady who worked there was behind the counter and handled everything quite efficiently, and that expensive looking knob that I needed cost only $ 15. I was so, so, surprised about how cheap it was! Of course after speaking to my boyfriend he said that the price was moderate, but we could have gotten a cheaper one of the same quality elsewhere, but I was still very happy as I thought I would have to pay $ 30 – 60 for a good one (shows how much I know (or don’t know!) about hardware goods!), so I was quite satisfied with my experience there, and will go back for all of my hardware needs, since the place is literally a stone’s throw away from my house. This is truly an old fashioned neighborhood hardware store. Not huge, and inventory not enormous (and what do you expect on a dense city block!)– but they make up for it in customer service and the time they spend with you making sure you get the right thing. I have been there for toilet flappers, paint, rollers, tools… and each time there was somebody who was (a) knowledgeable (b) patient to take the time to help. Even if you’re just spending $ 10 they make you feel like a valuable customer. Mellow, friendly, helpful. I like checking here before making the slog out to Home Depot.

Solid prices, wide enough inventory for a local hardware, and the staff have a very good knowledge about their stock.

Perfectly adequate hardware store. Maybe a bit small & unorganized, but that’s what we were all used to before the Home Depot’s and OSH’s showed up.
Bonus points for having someone right at the front to point me to what I needed, especially since there were others in the store getting help from another employee. Exactly what I want in a small neighborhood hardware store.

This place is pretty cool. The staff are friendly and know where things are, and aren’t grumpy about helping you find things (even if you’re basically staring right at them and just didn’t notice, ha ha). Their selection is not as good as Cole Hardware, but they’re way closer to my house so I gotta give ‘em points for that. If you need something in the Mission /​Geneva area, this is definitely the place to go. Four stars for helping me avoid going to Home Depot (ugh) and for having the paint rollers in stock that I needed, but minus one star for parking being a little bit difficult. Okay, yes, it was a Saturday afternoon, I don’t know what I was expecting…

I’ve been here and I was desperate. For something you need asap I had no choice. Only if Safeway had a drill bit then I’d settle of them.haha.
Never going here again.
