Lea G Shapiro, DDS

Dr. Shapiro was recommended by a coworker of mine, and she was great. It is super convenient if you live in the city. I’ll definitely be going back to her for all my dental work.

Great first experience with Dr Shapiro. Was slightly weirded out that it was in a mall/​galleria, but felt much better as soon as I walked in. Jeff, the patient coordinator was super friendly and professional — and the office itself is super clean, modern and nice. All of the equipment seems extra nice and new as well.
Dr Shapiro was wonderful. Took time to really explain everything she thought and was doing, and he approach was that dental work is all preventative, so she doesn’t rush to suggest expensive treatments you don’t need. Cleaning was swift and thorough, and the Xray system is digital — so it’s nice to see the images pop up on the screen instantly.
And I can’t lie, it doesn’t hurt that she is a fellow Eastcoast transplant. I always seem to prefer my doctors from the east coast.
Solid experience overall and will definitely be a regular patient.

By far, hands down– the BEST Dentist I have ever had in my entire life. Not only is she thorough and honest, she genuinely cares about you as a person. You can tell she became a Dentist for all the right reasons– and she is a damn good one that’s for sure. She tells her patients what they need and what they don’t need rather than recklessly suggesting dental work that is unnecessary, costly and painful. She makes you feel comfortable in asking questions and definitely has no gimmicks or tricks up her sleeves. By word of mouth to family, friends and coworkers– everyone that I have recommended to see her has agreed with me: she is AWESOME! I’ve had my fair share of horrible Dentist experiences (to say the least) and I thank my lucky stars for ending the agonizing grief by finding Dr. Shapiro! I realize people dread going to the Dentist (naturally) but I can honestly say that my visits with her are always a pleasure. Her staff is amazing as well. Can’t go wrong with this Dentist– you will definitely become a fan.

Lea Shapiro is amazing! My husband and I both go to her and love her! Her staff is very friendly and office is clean. She really cares about her clients and sincerely wants to help you as much as possible. She makes getting your teeth cleaned enjoyable, I look forward to it!

Lea is a wonderful dentist! She is very thorough, compassionate and attentive to the patients needs. I had a HUGE cavity in a tough spot that needed to be filled. I was absolutely dreading it and it wasn’t bad at all because she is so good! She also takes Delta Dental and Anthem Blue– both insurance programs I’ve been covered under and fully works with you to know what the costs will be. Dentistry can be so expensive its great to know that you won’t be taken to the cleaners for basic care. I think we’ve all had our bad experiences.
I really appreciated her honesty and thoroughness. She’s also very personable, easy going and fun :) You will look forward to your appointments.

Hands down the best dentist I have ever had! She was extremely professional and attentive and made herself very available to me after the root canal she painlessly performed on me. She is now treating both my mother and myself and we would both highly recommend her to anyone! I’ve had a problem and fear with dental work in the past and I feel confident to say that because of Dr. Shaprio’s great work that is definitely in the past!!! I couldn’t believe how accessible she was to me and the fact that she was so thorough in following up with me! I wish I could recommend her to more people!

I have been advised by two highly respected dentists that I had negligent dental work performed upon me by this dentist. I had two other dentists confirm that her negligent work needed to be completely redone. In fact, Dr. Shapiro was notified by a highly respected dentist, that she used to share office space with, that her work done on three of my teeth needed to be completely redone. Instead of agreeing to pay for the work to be redone, she would only agree to return the money that I paid to her and my insurance company. Although I am not a dentist, I have been told by other dentists who I have consulted with that the filling that Dr. Shapiro put in one of my teeth was not sealed properly which left my tooth open and exposed to decay. According to these other dentists, due to the negligent manner in which the cavity was filled, decay was trapped in my tooth since there was a gap left open. The tooth rotted due to this exposed gap and partially fell out within six months. When the tooth fell out, the pain was excruciating and I was forced to undergo an emergency root canal on the tooth. I notified Dr. Shapiro of this situation immediately, but received no response from her. Instead, a month later, I received a letter from her attorney threatening me with a lawsuit if I did not remove this Unilocal post.
Now, I need to have this tooth crowned which will cost additional money and I am told by two other dentists that the other two teeth that she worked on will also need to be re-​crowned. I recently was told by a dentist that I was referred to for another opinion, that this restorative work could cost up to $ 3,300. The weird thing is that in the face of all of this, Dr. Shapiro has taken no responsibility at all and still seems to dispute that any negligent work was done by her. It is amazing to me that she will not own up to the situation and reimburse me for the costs I have incurred to repair the damage done to my teeth. I fully understand that everyone makes mistakes, but a dentist should own up to their mistakes and take responsibility for making things right for the patient. I cannot understand Dr. Shapiro’s failure to make this bad situation right and her aggressiveness in hiring an attorney who is threatening to sue me for simply telling the truth on Unilocal.It has been a terrible ordeal for me that is continuing due to Dr. Shapiro’s refusal to make this right.

I hate needles. I hate them. I’ve had 2 dentist in my 30 years on this planet that have the bedside manner and the skills to inject me with Novocain without my freaking out. She is one of them. I didn’t even know she did it. Aside from my phobias, Lea filled my cavity during my lunch hour and I was back to work quickly. If you work downtown, fear needles, and need a great dentist, see her.

Lea is a fantastic dentist. I have had cavaities filled and she also did my invisalign so i saw her quite often. She is very professional, detail-​oriented and she wears her compassion for her patients on her sleeve. She even helped me get replacement aligners when I melted mine in hot water trying to clean them. I have been going to her for a few years in New York and i couldn’t believe my luck when we both moved out here. I recommend her to all my friends and you to dear reader.

I had a great dentist in DC. Then a terrible dentist here (in a dirty office in Berkeley). And, starting today, I have a WONDERFUL dentist again — who takes my insurance (Delta PPO) — and who is located IN my office building… SCORE! Dr. Shapiro is knowledgeable, firm, thorough, gentle, and a frustratingly engaging conversationalist. She is respectful re: insurance coverage costs and she needs clients — she just moved from NYC. I was really impressed. Highly recommended!
