The Nesting Days Newborn Carrier provides comfortable skin-​to-​skin nesting, is ergonomically safe and also a postpartum body shaper for the new mother. Unlike other carriers, there are no buckles, straps or complicated wrapping, just an easy step-​in design that mothers can wear from day one.

Designed specifically for newborns and new mothers, the Nesting Days Newborn Carrier was created by a postpartum doula in San Francisco. After seeing mothers struggling to use the existing baby carriers and observing that using such carriers did not enhance the infant-​mother bond, Julie set out to create a safe and happy human nest. The Nesting Days Newborn Carrier not only makes skin-​to-​skin care easier and more convenient, but safer.

History

Established in 2012.

Mothers and babies have always been a common thread in my life, weaving together my aspirations, family and career.

In 2009 I became a postpartum doula and found that it was impossible to find a baby carrier that was made just for the newborn. Before I knew it, I was writing a business plan for a baby carrier along with my class of entrepreneurs at the Renaissance Center.

In 2012 I made dozens of prototypes, worked day and night at TechShop and finally in early 2013 filed for a patent. With the help of my husband, friends and supporters from all over, we were able to raise money on Kickstarter and produce the first round of Nesting Days Newborn Carriers. Now there are moms from San Francisco to Russia practicing skin-​to-​skin, nesting and gently rocking their newborns in Nesting Days.

In the 1970’s I enjoyed being a young mother and part-​time preschool teacher at Stanford. In the 1980’s I became a manager of the Gymboree play program, and from 1984 to 1989 I was the VP of Merchandising for the Gymboree Stores. I believe the reason the retail concept and product line was so successful was because I knew my target market intimately.

Upon leaving Gymboree, I became a business/​life coach with an emphasis on women entrepreneurs and work/​family balance. Over the past 15 years I’ve been an instructor with Women’s Initiative for Self-​Employment and Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center, helping clients start their own businesses. It was during my teaching that I realized I had one more business in me.
