I have been to this Taraval location as well as the Noriega location; both facilities were seemingly brand new, very sterile and clean-​looking, and extremely professional. (the large 2 story Noriega clinic is almost TOOOOO sterile –not possible for a medical clinic, i know – and a wee bit creepy because of how empty, large, and monotone white it is. But not a bad thing!)
My doctor is Dr. Melissa Wong and she’s fabulous. She answers all my questions without any sort of annoyance (i ask a lot of questions!!!) and she’s very knowledgeable and professional, while still very friendly and approachable.
All of my test results have been prompt (super quick actually) and delivered professionally. Even when I called in frantic an hour after my x-​ray, the nurse was kind and didn’t tell me i was being ridiculous expecting to hear back immediately. She called me within a few hours to let me know the results and was just as kind/​informative (even though i am a neurotic beast…)
My only complaint is the registration process which I had to do before my first appointment to get the NEMS card and all that took nearly 45 minutes on top of my appointment time. It’s a bit tedious, but I suppose it goes with choosing a lower-​cost clinic chain. But really, nothing about NEMS makes me feel like i’m at a lower-​cost service outlet. It’s extremely professional and well-​run, and the registration admin person was also well-​organized, prompt, and professional. it’s just a long process…
I recommend NEMS and Dr. Wong.

I made an appointment by phone and went to the outer Richmond location for mystery pain in my leg.
They registered me as a new member right away and then a doctor saw me immediately. The diagnosis based on symptoms, questions, and visual inspection was: early shingles (even though there wasn’t a rash yet, but i didn’t have an injury to explain the pain). Doctor recommended blood tests (which could confirm the diagnosis) and also antiviral and pain medicine, which i could get at discount. I asked if those were necessary as i really couldn’t afford it. She said no, but scheduled me for a
follow –up 2 weeks later, and said if pain got worse or i had other symptoms, to come back earlier. Follow-​up appt. ruled out shingles, and based on the pattern of pain, the second diagnosis was: a trapped nerve within the thigh. Possible that it was caused when i tried moving a heavy wardrobe from a crouching position– (even though pain didn’t start about week after that because it can take time for the nerve to be trapped and/​or cause pain). Depending on the cause and location of a trapped nerve, they sometimes resolve themselves, so she told me if pain got worse or continued for a few weeks, they could send me to have imaging tests (MRI, ultrasound, etc).
Throughout this whole time, i had also been researching on the internet, and then found out about relatively new methods to untrap nerves within muscles by doing specific stretches… have started those which seem to be helping.
So, my experience at NEMS was very positive– everyone was very nice, service was quick, and i felt cared for which is very encouraging when you’re not feeling well.
It is a clinic, so extensive tests have to be done elsewhere, but that worked out in my favor since the «wait and see» approach is sometimes the best. I’ve also always been my own advocate (questioning doctor’s prescriptions and doing my own research), and appreciate the fact that i wasn’t chided for that. I recommend everyone be their own advocate; doctors are not psychic or miracle-​workers, like some people expect… they do their best to diagnose and fix problems.
I’m still un-​insured and waiting for medical registration to go through, so based on my income, my co-​pay per visit was only $ 5…can’t beat that for the exceptional treatment i got!

This review is for the Chinatown location I too was sign up for Healthy San Francisco and chose NEMS for my primary location. I was misteated and verbally abused by my obgyn who I thought cared for me. I went to my obgyn, Dr. Dong Ha Hwang, for my previous check-​up report. In the middle of waiting for an hour I suddenly became very sick. I had palpitation and dizziness felt like a heart attack. The nurse was kind enough and rushed me to a room where lie down. When Dr. Hwang was finally able to see me instead of checking for my vital sign, he scolded at me and says «You’re only here to see your report and your result is fine! I don’t care if you’re sick!» I know this is ouside of obgyn limit but I’m his patient he should at least call for help. What kind of sick person would leave his patient in pain. The nurse and my sister, who were with me that day recommended he should called the ambulance right away. He says no and made a remark saying «It’s $ 2000 dollars do you have the money to pay for it?!» We’re talking about life and dead here $ 2000 is nothing. My sister ended up carrying me out and called the ambulance. I don’t recommend any of my families and friends under their care. I’ve made a big mistake of not getting insured. I will file a complaint on Dr. Hwang with medical board of California. Stay away from him people!

Doctor Michelle definitely have some attitude problem. She just seems so dislike her job so much that it takes her painful effort to answer patient’s questions. Or I just have to guess she doesn’t know how to treat at all except maybe a common flu.

Seriously, if you have the choice to go to any of the NEMS clinic, DO NOT go to the one in Stockton! Like what the other person said, the people working there are so rude! I was so upset when I left. I came in for an appointment for a physical exam for school and instead, I left with no physical exam and was asked to come back next time to finish up. I went for a total of 3 visits already and I still have not gotten my physical exam even thought they charged me for every visit. They even charged me for a visit when I went to get a shot! And even when I asked for them to do a physical exam, they kept pushing it off. I am so upset and disappointed with the NEMS clinic at Stockton. Unbelievable! And then the rudeness of the people working there just makes everything worst. I work at a health plan, and I know that they are not doing what they are paid to do. Ordering unnecessary labs, making patients come in for multiple visits, that’s basically scamming the government.

This is for the NEMS locations I’ve been to: San Bruno Ave, Taraval (now Noriega), and the main hospital in Chinatown.
When I signed up for Healthy San Francisco, and made an appt with a Healthy SF from NEMS on Taraval, they did not tell me that if I signed up there that NEMS would be my permanent provider for the year. I thought I just signed up at any location and then I could choose my medical group. I was wrong. If I had known this I would NOT have chosen NEMS as my med group.
The Taraval location was so understaffed. I asked to make an appt for a physical and they told me there’s only one doctor there so there wouldn’t be an appt for 3 months. They suggested seeing a doctor at the Chinatown location. Ok, that’s fine with me I know Taraval was a small clinic. But at Chinatown everyone there is so effin rude. For Stephanie down below. It’s NOT cause you’re white that you received horrible treatment. I’m Chinese and they treat me like that too. Hell, they treat EVERYONE like that. It’s just kinda our culture. We’re not out there to be mean on purpose, but customer service and going the extra mile to ensure someone is happy and comfortable is not really our agenda. Ever.
So at Chinatown I wait over an hour for my appt even though I came on time, and it seemed everyone who came AFTER me already got called. What the hell?
Later on I heard they opened a new, bigger (than Taraval) clinic on San Bruno and decided to visit them when I had an eye problem and had to see the optometrist. People were slightly friendlier there and the pharmacy there was fairly fast and efficient. They also really tried to help me get the best price for medication, since Healthy SF isn’t too great of health insurance.
If you sign up for NEMS, just be prepared to always be sent to the Chinatown hospital where you will be treated rudely and feel sicker going out than when you first walked in.

I do not see the NEMS on San Bruno ave on Unilocal,but that place is what this review is for.
They were awesome. They took my healthy SF and gave me their own card. The appointment was fast, no long waits.
My Doctor was the best part. Dr. Lorky Liberadian (amazing name)
was funny, well informed, respectful and completely patient. She spent a lot of time answering my inane questions about my mystery sickness.
She is working in a low cost clinic… but she is Yale educated. I know because I googled her.
Also, at NEMS when you are a member you can get very cheap optometry and dentistry! Yeah!

This place is wretched. I’m signed up for Healthy San Francisco and picked NEMS as my home clinic, since it’s so close to where I live. BAD IDEA. I went in on Saturday with a fever of 101*, a thick cough and body aches. They told me to wait, which I did for an hour. They then called me in, took my blood pressure (seriously!!? I’m coughing and burning up idiots!), made me put a mask over my face and then had me back in the waiting room. The nurse reappeared after 5 minutes and told me they were booked full for a few days and a doctor would not be able to see me. She recommended the hospital. I’m just gonna throw it out there… but hopefully me being the ONLY white person didn’t have anything to do with it. I’m SURE it didn’t.

Ive been here a few times, and finally a place that actually cares about YOU. whether you have money or not, they will help you first, AND THEN help find ways to paying the bill.
Very nice desk people, nurses, and doctors. Most are women though. So very gentle and caring :] That is what i need when im sick.
