Ronald Yee, DDS

I saw him in 2008. At the time he cut the side of my mouth. To this day if me lips get dry it cracks and hurts. Sad that he caused me to loose several teeth and continues to be the cause of pain.

I had a bad experience with Ronald Yee:
He put in my mouth 4 bridges:
–Bridge #1: removed by an other dentist because it was not in line with my lips, it was looking awful (my front teeth).
–Bridge #2 and #3: I had to go to the other dentist because the cement he used failed and the bridges came off my mouth.
–Bridge #4: still in my mouth (the only one that still works)

I have been seeing Dr. Yee for 28 years. As a dentist he is great and when I have an emergency, he will see right away. I never have any problem with him, because he took care of my needs. Anyway, I am sad, because he decided to retire this year.

Where do I begin? Ive been seeing Dr. Mary Anne Baysac for about 5 years now. I just moved to Austin and I will be returning to the Bay Area to get my dentistry done by her. Yes, it’s that good. Ever been excited to see the dentist? I get excited every time I have an appointment :)
Dr. Baysac is fun, sweet, informative, and truly cares about your teeth. I’ve never had a better dental experience. Her practice is clean, welcoming, and has all of the latest equipment. The whole staff seems to really enjoy working under Dr. Baysac as well.
She just «saved» me from a root canal the other day :) Woke up the next day with ZERO pain even though it was a large filling.
In a word, stellar.

I thought Dr. Yee was just strange because he talked non stop about his dental management skills. Blah blah blah we put you as an «A» customer, etc…
I put up with Dr. Yee for about 4 years, then moved to a dentist in the East Bay. I had NINE cavities !! I needed immediate work and the new dentist was shocked that I’d even been to a dentist in the recent years. ALL the time I was getting a regular cleaning and check up by the boastful Dr. Yee.
Also, my poor mom went to Dr. Yee for many years, then Dr. Yee drilled too far on her tooth and caused nerve damage, so she needed a root canal.
Neither of us go to Dr. Yee anymore.

Unfortunately, I will not be using Dr. Yee’s services any longer. I have been seeing him for several years only because I never had the time to find a dentist I was more comfortable with.
Yesterday I had to have a tooth removed by an oral surgeon because it broke eight months after Dr. Yee replaced a preexisting crown on that tooth. The reason Dr. Yee gave for replacing the crown was that the margins were not just right on the preexisting crown and could lead to decay of the tooth beneath the crown.
He never advised me that replacing crowns on teeth that have root canals and have had other previous work only weakens the tooth further. If he had I would never have allowed him to replace the crown. Now instead of possible future decay I instead have a hole where the tooth was and will have to live with the hole or spend over $ 4,000 for the extraction and a dental implant and new crown. And this is after I paid him just months ago to put the crown on. Dr. Yee only looks at what work he wants to do, and not the history of work that has been done and what additional work the tooth is capable of handling.
Do not believe dentists who are wanting to do work when there is not a problem. It is such a racket.

I usually don’t write reviews here, however I was compelled to do so after my recent visit to Dr. Yee’s dental office. Dr. Yee was our dentist from 1995 to 2004. He was a great dentist for my wife and I providing as good as service and care as anyone would ever expect.
In 2000, my wife and I moved out of SF over to the East Bay. Even after we moved away, we still stayed with Dr. Yee for another 4 years because of his excellent service. However, a few years ago we decided to change dentists and get someone local to avoid the 1 hour trek back to SF for regular dental visits. Bad mistake…
A few months ago, my new dentist told me that I had 4 cavities. Believe it or not, I am 47 years old and have never had a cavity in my life. I was really surprised to find out that my new dentist out of nowhere decided that I had 4 that needed to be filled. I was really taken back and decided I needed a second opinion. As such, I called Dr. Yee’s office and made an appointment. Not to my surprise, Dr. Yee gave me a thorough check and realized that I only had one ‘very’ small cavity… not 4 like the previous dentist claimed to detect. Only as a preventative measure, we both decided that it was best to take care of it. The cavity was so small, that Dr. Yee was able to take care of it, drill a small hole, and fill it… and doing so without needing any Novocain. I felt nothing. NO PAIN at all. Unlike many other dentists who want to bill as much as possible, Dr. Yee goes out of his way to avoid unnecessary and invasive procedures to his patients.
Any way that’s my story. Dr. Yee is extremely personable and truly cares about his patients and knows what is best for them. His practice uses state of the art dental technology and does not overcharge like many other practices.
I highly recommend this Dr. Yee to anyone who is looking for top notch dental care.

I had only even gone to one dentist my entire life, but finally decided that it was time I found a place in the city instead of driving about an hour for a teeth cleaning.
I knew of several people that had gone to Dr. Yee and were very pleased with everything about him, so I figured I would give his office a try.
After a recent teeth cleaning, I must say I was very impressed and so happy with my entire experience! He was very professional and I felt he did a very good job! It turned out he knew my old dentist as well, which made me even happier with where I was!
Definitely a good spot to try if you are looking for a wonderful experience at the dentist!

Like Jessica L.‘s review, I just had the most intense cleaning ever. It definitely has motivated me to floss everyday.
I love how Dr. Yee explains every little thing that he is doing. It makes me more at ease knowing what the dentist is actually doing in your mouth. He is very good at sparking up conversations and running off with them. Sometimes I wanted to answer or comment back but I had 3 different tools cleaning my mouth.
While waiting in the waiting room, they even brought out hot tea while I was waiting. Overall, the staff and Dr. Yee is extremely friendly and helpful and I’ll plan on coming back in 6 months.

Dr. Yee and staff have been a god-​send. I hadn’t been to the dentist for almost ten years and needless to say had more than a few pressing issues and concerns. They completely set my mind at ease and have always been nothing but professional, kind and courteous. The work has been stellar to say the least!
Hands-​down the best dentist office I have ever been to and I wouldn’t recommend ANY other dentist but Dr. Yee.

Dr. Yee is amazing and a saint, too boot. I first saw Dr. Yee in 2001, when I started having incredible pain and got me through my first root canal. Unfortunately, unemployment and uninsured-​ness hit me and I had no pain, so I glibly went through 7 years of avoiding any dentist. Why spend money when there is no problem?
But there were problems. Deep cavities set in and caused me to call his office last November, in pain again. I visited his office, X-​rays, the cavities discussed, but the pain was manageable and I was in tight financial straits, so again I waited. Stupid me!
About 2 weeks ago, the pain flared up again and I suffered a cracked molar. Finally, Monday found me researching cut-​rate dentists and the UCSF/​UOP clinics, which couldn’t slot me in until early October. I made the appointment, thinking I could deal with the pain for another 6 weeks or so.
Tuesday dawned and I started realizing that the 800 mg. Ibuprofen pills weren’t helping much. I went to work and finally, at 1:10PM couldn’t deal anymore and called Dr. Yee’s office. I knew his office, and being a dentistphobe and extreme panicker, those are two important things. I trusted him.
His assistant told me to come in right away – forget a next day appointment, I had a next-​hour appointment, wow! I was met at the office by Dr. Yee who immediately set to work deep cleaning and doing a filling (a root canal may be needed, but we are hoping this filling will save the tooth).
And I am not an easy dental patient. My panic disorder sets in when I am stuck anywhere (and where is more «stuck» than a dentist chair mid-​procedure?) Somehow, Dr. Yee managed to put up with my hand-​waving, hyperventilating and do my procedure in 3 – 4 minute increments, while keeping a sense of humor. I probably would have slapped me, LOL.
And the charge for this emergency visit and deep cleaning and cavity? Much less than the enormous amount I imagined. I had explained that I am uninsured, unemployed (well, temping on and off since losing my job last April) and he made it affordable.
Lesson learned… I will be keeping up with my dental care, at Dr. Yee’s office. I have about 4 major fillings to go and possibly a root canal and I can think of no dentist I would trust more to see me through these procedures. Thanks, Dr. Yee and staff, you guys are terrific. Fantastic. All those adjectives.

Just when I thought coming here couldn’t get any better — I finally had a cleaning with Dr B. AND noted some newer things in the rooms…

Interesting light covers on the ceiling so you have something pretty to look at.
Dr B has been there about a year and is a young spunky thing. She absolutely loves being a dentsit — you can tell. The best way for me to describe it is: Those chicks that grow up peeling sunburn and popping everyones zits and then become wildly successful estiticians — that’s what she is like — but with teeth.
I had the most intense cleaning of my life and my teeth were sore after HOWEVER, she did her job — and scared me into flossing regularly. She has took time to explain why she was getting that ’”calculus” off etc.
When finished she said «I bet you’ve never had a cleaning like that» No, I haven’t and it is way too hard to not like her.
FYI– I am very surprised by the other bad reviews. I love this place!

I used to dread going to the dentist as a kid, until I started coming to this place. Dr. Yee has all the newest technologies and you are in and out of there so fast.
I’m lucky enough to never have needed anything major done to my teeth, not even cavities. So I just come here twice a year for my cleaning and am happily on my way. Dr. Yee is great because he really gets to know his patients, my whole family comes here and he’ll talk a lot about whats going on and remember what you are up to.
One thing I don’t really understand about dentists though, are why do they try to talk to you when they’ve got a bunch of sharp vibraty things all up in your mouth. do they really expect you to be able to respond?

Poor chair side manner. Yapped on and on about how he and his wife want to hire an interior decorator for their house and how all the expensive furniture in their house is nice now, but they want a new look. That’s all fine and dandy for him, but I don’t really care. I spent the hour feeling trapped with no escape. I wanted to go to my happy place and zone him out, but that was tricky being that he’s all up in my mouth with tools and things.
I found the services expensive too. I have dental insurance, and yet I still had to pay out of pocket about $ 90 something just for a cleaning.
I heard that if you refer a new patient, you get a free sonicare toothbrush. Cool, so I brought in my husband, but they told me because he’s considered family it does not count. I think to myself, that is BS. Husband and wife don’t have to go to the same dentist, we even have separate insurance. I felt gypped.
The last straw was when my husband went in for his first visit. They determined he needed X, Y, and Z done. So, they worked on X at the first visit and scheduled follow up appointments for the Y and Z. My husband specifically told Dr. Yee to work on the tooth that was the most serious. At the second visit, they did not work on the worse tooth, but the other one. Well, before he could come back for the last tooth to be worked on, they said he had to pay for the services from visit one and two. By this time, dental coverage was used up and it would all be out of pocket. THEY ATE UP HIS COVERAGE ON WORK DONE FOR THE LESS SERIOUS TOOTH. We are not rich people, paying $ 1200 + took a few months to do, and in the meanwhile, his tooth suffered. I am so pissed at this, I am switching dentists. This was over a year ago, and I still feel angry about my experience there.

So imagine you walk into your new dentist’s office for the first time. The small waiting area is nice – receptionists that offer you hot tea in a real cup and saucer, hardwood floors, the soothing splash of a mini waterfall. As you settle into a chair and sip your tea, you begin to relax enough to forget that soon, a strange man will be probing around your mouth with pointy metal objects, when

Several people scream. Then silence.
So… do you peace out and make a run for it? Or do you choose in faith to stay because this guy, despite the bloodcurling cries emanating from his examination room, somehow got really glowing reviews on Unilocal?
Well, I did the latter, and I’m glad I did. Dr. Yee must have sensed my squeamishness and explained right away his «scream method,» which helps a kid get through a tooth extraction by instructing him to scream for a few seconds, while his mom, the dentist, and hygienist join in. After a long, piercing group shriek – voila! The tooth is pulled out without notice. Quick and painless. Pretty nifty.
I’ve never had to employ the scream method in my 3 visits so far to Dr. Yee. But if I did need a major procedure done, I’d trust him with my smile. He’s a friendly, upbeat guy who likes to swap restaurant and vacationing suggestions while your mouth is wide open and you can’t even talk (an SF native and a total believer in Unilocal!). If your teeth are in good health, he only x-​rays them once a year. He’s told me he’s conservative when it comes to doing work on teeth, as in if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! His technology is also very up-​to-​date… he’ll give you a «tour» of your mouth with a little camera and his computer monitor, take digital images of your teeth that you can see instantly and even take home, and show you a teeth whitening infomercial as you rinse at the end of your cleaning, if you so wish. Perhaps it’s just because I take good care of my teeth, but I have nothing but rave reviews for Dr. Yee.
He also doesn’t accept Metlife Insurance, to which I owe several thanks to my ritualistic flossing habit, as my routine checkup visits have still been completely covered.

I had been going to Dr. Yee’s office for years, but I had to tell myself it’s time to go. Before reading the recent posts, I thought I was alone and it’s my misfortune. Like some others, I ended up with a missing tooth, a combination of root canal and crown went bad.
I also had problem with the admin office one time which a staff gave me an appointment, and winding up wasting my trip. The gal who gave me the date and time, was also the one who denied forwarding me that information. I do not believe that staff is there any longer.
Another thing is, phone conversation and email with the Dr. are out of the question. One thing I do want to compliment, he and the staffs are very polite and the facility is in a nice neigborhood.

I have a friend who frequently criticizes Unilocal.He rants and raves that most reveiws on Unilocal are for restaurants. Since everyone’s tastes and likes are different, he thinks that the reviews are useless. (I disagree, but that’s obvious since I like to write and read reviews.) He does love Unilocal for checking out services that are a little bit more objective by their very nature. I rarely find myself writing these type of reviews, but after a visit to Dr. Yee, I felt compelled to break my restaurant review addiction. (Admitting you have a problem is the first step in the healing process.)
I avoid dentists. Probably because when I was a little tike of eight years, I walked right into a wall and broke my front tooth. (Yup, I walked into a wall. We’re not talking about a figurative wall. It was a real wall. Concrete painted bricks. Brick v. tooth… brick wins.) I had to go to a special dentist that the school nurse recommended to get that snaggle tooth fixed. Thus began a two year odyssey of horrible dental appointments. And so was born my aversion to dentists.
Well, that old battle scar started giving me some discomfort recently, so I needed a new dentist. I found Dr. Yee on Unilocal,and gosh darn it, I am glad I did. I called for an appointment, and they got me in within three days. Awesome. All the forms are on line, so you don’t have to sit in the waiting room with a clipboard filling out an endless forms and feeling like a dunce in the corner.
Dr. Yee is very personable and professional. He got right to business. He checked out my choppers and decided that there was no need to unnecessary work. He also looked at my tartar ravaged bottom teeth and said, we gotta clean that. But he didn’t yell. Yes, you read those last sentences correctly… a dentist who said work was not necessary and then did not yell at state of my tartar. (Cue the Mitch Hedberg cd: I’m not saying I have a lot of tartar, but I don’t have to dip my fish sticks in shit.)
Great service. Convenient location on California. Plenty of easy street parking, and excellent care. I already have my next appointment scheduled.

Seriously, THE BEST DENTIST AND DENTAL OFFICE. Dr. Yee has been taking care of me since I was 18. Even after I went off to college, I didn’t bother looking for a local dentist but flew back to SF to have my teeth checked here. I use to have horrible stains on my teeth but once Dr. Yee suggested (and discounted) teeth whitening, my problem was solved… and I still drink as much coffee as I like!
Honestly, try him out once and you won’t need to find a new dentist until you move to Budapest.

Dr. Ronald Yee is a fantastic «conservative» dentist who looks out for the best interests of his clients. I went to him, (thanks to the helpful reviews of Unilocalers) to get a regular teeth cleaning. Sidenote: my grandfather is a dentist so my standards are quite high. I’ve had plenty of teeth-​cleanings, but never has anyone done as thorough job as him. I’m a coffee-​drinker, and after teeth cleanings, there’s usually some traces of «build-​up,» but with Dr. Yee, nothing! My teeth were cleaned! He uses the latest technology with digital cameras and videos and is very conservative with recommendations. Instead of other dentists who recommend root canals and the removal of wisdom teeth– he sat me down, went over all the pros and cons, and let me decide the best option for myself.
I had to go back to him to get a crown done. He went over the entire process with me, and when it was time to actual get my crown done, he used all sorts of «preventive measures» to avoid any outside bacteria from entering my exposed tooth. He placed this blue wrapping over my tooth, to prevent any filling scrapping from falling down into my throat, placed a mouth piece on the other side of my mouth so that I could breathe easier, he even placed headphones over my ears so that I could listen to jazz.
Dr. Yee’s staff is amazing too– they bring you a cup of hot tea when you first arrive and after your appointment is finished, you leave with a bag full of goodies.

I went to him after seeing reviews on Unilocal.
I just got a chip in one of my front teeth and it was sharp and I was having a lot of sensitivity. His staff was great, they got me tea (though heat hurt my tooth– they didn’t know), had great magazines, and were really friendly.
Dr. Yee explained my options, and was very gentle as he sanded down the sharp part of my tooth. It was the easiest trip to the dentist ever!
He even sent me a card in the mail saying it was nice to meet me– I think that is attentive service.
I will go to him for regular services. I think he was great.
