Turtle Rabbit Physical Therapy & Integrative

As a health care professional, I know the amount of compassion and dedication required to provide high quality care with results. Karuna is extremely knowledgeable and utilizes different effective modalities to suit my needs. She uses a new laser to eliminate pain in my neck and headaches. Treatment is immediately successful and long-​lasting. I am so thankful for Karuna and taking Physical Therapy to a higher holistic and spiritual level. She brings peace to my mind, body, and soul! This is medicine with a heart!

Everyone’s got a bad back but mine got a whole lot worse after a summer of picking up grandchildren. I could hardly move when I got out of bed in the morning and any length of time sitting in a chair could bring on a big problem. I was feeling almost incapacitated — and I had some international travel in a few months. I knew I needed help and after not getting it from my HMO which will go nameless here, all my intuitions were that Karuna would be the one.
In one session she taught me subtle little exercises I could do to deal with a problem when it happened and to gradually get my back working right. The results were so immediate it was like magic. I’ve seen her once more for a refresher and I’m confident I’m on top of this now. What is the best is that I’m not dependent on a treatment — she is teaching me how to take care of myself.

I had a very traumatic foot injury, which required surgery and left me with a lot of scaring as well as numbness due to the nerves being manipulated. Weeks after the surgery, my foot and ankle were not healing properly. Aside from the pain post surgery, the contusions and scars were «angry» looking and the foot was swollen with a sickly color, not to mention the throbbing that did not allow me to sleep at night. I decided to seek help with the healing and chose Karuna’s services. She was very gentle and used lymphatic stimulation to help the area drain and get circulation. Immediately after the first visit my foot was «alive» again and it started to come back to normal. After 5 visits, the foot looked amazing and even the surgeon was surprised to see it heal so rapidly. I wish I had seen her sooner after the surgery and shortened the recovery time.

I first saw Karuna after a gnarly jet ski accident bruised my ribs pretty badly — 10 out of 10 pain. After our first session, swelling reduced by 50% and the pain dropped dramatically. Everywhere I read in the Internet, rib injuries take 6 weeks to heal and there’s nothing you can do about it. Karuna proved that wrong — after two weeks of treatment, pain has all but disappeared and I’m back to the gym and on my bike again. Thank you Karuna for saving my Summer — I feel great again and ready to take on the world! She’s phenomenal!

My experience with physical therapy in the past left a lot to be desired. When I had issues with my knees for example, the sports rehab clinic just did a rotation of ice/​heat/​soaking/​electrical stimulation. No stretching or working of the joint at all. And when that did nothing for me (surprise), they simply recommended that I quit the sport I loved and move onto something less strenuous.
So, when I hurt my shoulder late last year (and had never had issues with my shoulder prior to that), I was pretty concerned. Very limited motion, with a lot of pain down through my elbow and into my wrist. I thought it started to get better on its own, but that was just because I was really careful with it. I had a huge wakeup call a few months later when I fell snowboarding and experienced really bad throbbing and deep aching constantly thereafter. I couldn’t lift anything, couldn’t sleep — and little things like having my dog barely pull on his leash while walking him were oddly painful.
I visited Dr. Jennifer van Warmerdam (I also highly recommend), thinking that I would just get a cortisone shot and go on my way. She has a pretty conservative approach, which I appreciated, and recommended 6 weeks of physical therapy for capsulitis.
She also gave me a list of recommended Physical Therapists, which included Turtle Rabbit. I was a little hesitant given previous experiences with PT, but was really glad that I took her advice — and really glad that I chose to work with Turtle Rabbit.
There are a lot of things that I really like about Karuna and her practice, but here are the things that stood out for me:
1. She takes a holistic approach to your injury, and really understands how different areas of the body impact you and the area she is working on.
2. She did a phenomenal job of bringing down my pain level in the first session which gave me a great degree of confidence that I was working with the right person.
3. She was very clear that slow and steady wins the race — it will take some time, but I was far more likely to have a full recovery by working on a little bit at a time and testing out my range of motion and strength.
4. She utilizes a combination of eastern, western and modern techniques (including cold lasers) and taps into your awareness so that your body goes into a healing mode.
5. She did an awesome job of prepping me for upcoming activities that I thought might not have been possible — including a golf trip and heavy yard work.
6. She also has great insights into how other factors can positively or negatively impact your body’s ability to heal.
I really did think 6 months ago that I would be that person with a nagging shoulder injury for the rest of my life — dealing with pain on a constant basis, and worried about re-​injuring myself. That couldn’t be further from the truth. My shoulder feels great, I’m golfing again, and not worried in the least about straining or pushing it.
I also agree with all of the other reviewers here; don’t settle for a partial recovery! A full recovery is definitely possible with Turtle Rabbit and Karuna if you have a little patience, work with the process, and follow her instructions.
I highly recommend Turtle Rabbit, and will certainly be coming back if I have any PT needs moving forward.

I don’t easily hand out five star reviews but I have no hesitation giving Karuna the highest recommendation possible.
I went to her with shoulder pain that had been nagging me for more than a year, pain that had finally become unbearably limiting. She first made a thorough assessment-​not only of my shoulder and its limitations but of my diet, lifestyle, and other physical strengths and weaknesses-​before ever suggesting treatment or laying a hand on me.
I saw Karuna once or twice a week for a little more than a month. At every visit we checked in on present conditions and past progress. She educated me about what was going on inside my body and helped me understand what I needed to do to extend the benefits of the therapy she provided. As if by magic, my shoulder opened up and I have been totally pain-​free with 100% range of motion for two and a half months.

I’ve gone to a # of different physical therapists, and I have to say that Karuna definitely sets the bar for outstanding work!
I’ve had pain in my shoulder for the past 6 months with no recovery. 1 session from Karuna and I can already see the vast improvements in strength and movement. When she worked on my shoulder, I could tell how present she was on how my body reacted and how intuitive she is with how she addressed healing.

I was very happy to discover Karuna when I did. I had been suffering from chronic pelvic pain for almost 3 years and I really needed someone to help me look at the big picture — body, mind, spirit — in order to make some tough treatment decisions. Karuna was the right person to help me do that. When I went to Karuna after badly injuring myself from a HIIT class at the gym. I got rhabdomyolysis, rhabdo for short. It’s something that I found out later was common in CrossFit circles. Anyways, it basically happened because I was doing TOO DAMN MUCH! Going to Turtle Rabbit healed up the puffy arms I got from the rhabdo and a host of other injuries I had acquired from aggressive physical activity.
I was going to Karuna for about six months due to the many things I was taking care of in my body after years of negligence. My recovery was well supported by her too. She is someone who is in it for the service of caring for people, rather than the business of the healthcare industry. Throughout my healing, Karuna worked with me to look inside and into myself for what was best for me. She would then make recommendations from what my responses were so that I really understood that I was healing myself under her guidance. This was the part that was truly integrative about my treatment.
Karuna is the real deal when it comes to practicing what she preaches. She really cares about your health and well being. She even texted me after I stopped seeing her to check in on me and make sure that I was doing okay. She also facilitates a great meditation group. Karuna is just the best!

Karuna totally exceeded my expectations as to what PT was about. I showed up with limited range of motion and some pain in both shoulders due to years of surfing and lack of stretching.
After our first session the range of motion increased significantly. I was very impressed. Not only that but I can’t remember the last time my shoulder joints felt so open. I walked out really feeling great.
The other thing I should really mention is that Karuna has healing hands. What I mean by that is I could tell as soon as she put her hands on my she knew exactly what she was doing, where to find those tinder spots and how to manipulate the joints to get the most openings. I can’t recommend Karuna enough. She is way more than a physical therapist.

After seriously injuring my back at work, I could hardly move and was leaning to the right; could not sleep, walk straight, drive, etc.
I Did an MRI and the doctors suggested to meet with a back surgeon. They also suggested some physical therapy «in the meantime».
Following a recommendation of a friend, I’ve met Karuna at Turtle Rabbit and that’s where the ‘magic’ begun. In a short (but intensive) 3 weeks I felt amazing. No more leaning to the side and I had almost no pain at all! I could not believe how fast almost everything got back to normal!
In a routine follow-​up with the same doctor, there was no need to meet with any surgeon anymore and all I had to do is few more visits at Turtle Rabbit and follow the «homework» therapy and care instructions I’ve got from Karuna.
Now, about 8 months after the injury, my back feels great. I did no have pain for months and I feel great!
