Seal Rock Inn

This is my kind of place. It’s almost a hole in the wall but it’s in a touristy part of the neighborhood and the prices are a bit higher. It’s also located on the bottom floor of the hotel. I live a block away from Beach Chalet but this place feels «closer to home.» The Eggs Florentine is way better than Beach Chalet’s. The eggs were poached perfectly and the hollandaise sauce was just right. The wait staff was so friendly and attentive to our 8 person table that included 2 small children. Some of the other items that were a big hit at our table were the Eggs Benedict, Corned Beef Hash, and the French Toast. Everyone was so pleased with their meal and service. We can’t wait to come back on the weekend and become one of the regulars.

Decent diner food. I enjoyed the corned beef hash with 2 eggs. It was served in a small hot skillet. The eggs were on top of the corned beef, the way I serve it at home. Hash browns were pretty good, too.
Bottomless cups of coffee. Efficient and friendly service.

We paid for the view. More economical than other restaurants with as spectacular a view. Club sandwich, next time.

Sweetest + attentive service (with an Irish accent no less;), SF cool + classic character, breathtaking location! What more could one want? Without a wait, we enjoyed a welcoming booth serving up delicious pancakes and a generous fresh spinach omelette. No room for home made pie– hopefully soon!

This place is pretty outstanding. I stayed here in June with my parents. Yes, I’m 30 years old and shared a hotel room with my parents. I was a bit worried that it would be like typical San Francisco hotel rooms– aka-​small. It was HUGE by San Francisco standards. Our room looked out to the ocean and trees. Our room had a kitchenette that could use some updating but for the price it was a complete steal. The hotel has FREE underground parking and a cute courtyard with ping pong, lounge chairs, and even a pool! I will continue to stay here each time I come to San Francisco!

We stopped here for lunch as we were unable to secure a table at another restaurant in the area. It’s a tired and old place with minimal décor and felt like walking into a truck stop diner.
The menu has breakfast, burgers, fish and chips and sandwiches. It’s classic diner food and the staff are friendly but did struggle to understand us at times. They have a selection of drinks including wine and craft beer.
I had the ¼ pound burger and it was served open face. It tasted ok and was nothing special. It’s the type of place I would stop for a quick feed but always know it’s going to be average. The others in my group were also satisfied with their meals.
It’s a motel and restaurant together and I presume many of the guests eating here are people staying at the motel. It’s an ok place for a feed.

Food is good and comes out fast. Waffles are great!

Seal rock, so one off my list of places to try. Was I impressed, let me just say that the view was spectacular. Seating was seat yourselves. Silverware was something from a cheap five and dime.
Food standard breakfast menu, eggs, pancakes, omelette and coffee.
I ordered the Joes scramble. I was on the small side for the price, came with a small side of hash and toast. Coffee was 2.95 with lots of refills.
Parking was easy enough. Street just watch out for street cleaning violations.
Have a quick bite go for a stroll along lands end and enjoy the fresh sea air.
Bath rooms are adjacent to the restaurant. Scary 50 s stalled bathroom. Reminds me of the bathrooms in some
Foreign countries. BTW they are not handicap friendly.

I love this place so much the rooms are clean the beds are comfortable the people are so nice and welcoming and the view of the ocean is awesome what more could i ask for :). Love this place so much i will definetly stay here every time i come to San Francisco. And the resturante was great!

Weak coffee & deplorable food from our most recent visit cannot diminish my teenage memories here. Just walking up to the well-​worn hotel conjures up images from years past of me infringing on my parents’ breakfast dates.
Still, with mushy corned beef hash omlettes & the fact that eggs benedict is only served on the weekends, I can’t bear to give them anything lower than three stars. This San Francisco establishment dating back to the late 50s doesn’t need 5-​star food to bring in business — between hotel patrons, Lands End/​Sutro Bath wanderers, & families looking to capture a piece of the good old days — Seal Rock’s location, history, & reputation ensures they’ll have a place by the beach for years to come.

As soon as you step in this establishment, you will find yourself being helped immediately. And that’s why I like this place. The service is great and fast. All of the employees are nice and seem extremely happy to help.
The food here is quite simple. Nothing too fancy, nothing too grand. But it’s delicious quick food! In my opinion, some dishes are a wee bit expensive. But with great service and good food, I’m highly impressed by this place. Hopefully, I come back soon.

Pros:
Location– is perfect! Just across from our favorite trail. Across the street from Sutro bath and the cliff house. A short walk from the beach.
View — we got the top floor room which according to the front desk has a full view of the ocean. Yes, we could see some ocean view… in between the trees. It’s not really a full ocean view but I can’t complain. The location made it up for me.
Space — the room is very spacious with extra twin/​full bed, a table and 2 chairs; I love the wide windows. Even though we didn’t have that full ocean view, we had a nice view of big trees. Shower room is spacious as well.
Semi updated — fire place is updated, big screen tv, modern table lamp. It is kind of a mix of modern and retro. It’s nice to have a coffee maker, microwave and a small fridge in the room.
Parking — is free. It can be full but if you come in at the right time, it’s nice to have a free, lighted parking garage just below the rooms.
Cons:
Reservation — is not easy and not fast. You cannot do online reservations. You have to fill out the online form which goes to their email. Then they call you. Then they mail you the confirmation letter.
Smell — if you have a sensitive sense of smell like me, the smell in the room will bother you. It smells like a very old room. Reminds me of my husband’s doctor’s clinic and antique store. The room looks clean but the smell kind of make me question it.
Air conditioning/​fan — no AC or fan in the room. They have a heater and a fireplace but no AC. No air circulation in the room. We had to open the windows but it gets too noisy with the bus stop next to us. It gets pretty annoying after a while.
Recommendation — because of the location, I recommend this Inn. It is not fancy but very close to nature. Lots of options as far as restaurants go. I don’t mind going back here again. It’s nice to just cross the street, go to your room and crash after a long nice hike!

Nice place to bring your big fam for breakfast-​good omelets, coffee, etc… Only been here for breakfast and wasn’t disappointed. It gets crowded at times.
Prices are reasonable. I am a big omelet fan so this place is pretty good on my list.

review of the hotel only:
Cute, quiet little place near the beach. It’s by no means fancy, but the rooms were clean and spacious. The furniture is a little old and the room set-​up was a little funky in one of the rooms, but it was totally fine as a place to relax and sleep after long days exploring the surrounding area. The location pretty much can’t be beat if you’re looking to avoid the chaos of the city proper.
I was looking for something affordable (which this is, plus free parking) and low-​key. Seal Rock fit the bill. It would be amazing if they would modernize just a little so you can make reservations, etc. online — everything must be done over the phone which is a little inconvenient.

Review of HOTEL…
Can’t I do less than 1 star? I’ve stayed in 5-​star hotels and dumps all over the world… so I’m not a whiner when it comes to hotels. As long as there are no pimps in the lobby, it has minimal comforts and is clean, I’m usually pretty happy.

Check-​in:
The rude desk clerk was on the phone and couldn’t be bothered with us. Bad customer experience before we even saw the room.
The Room:
The torn vinyl cushions, carpet and drapes looked like they were installed in 1952. The highest temperature on the shower was lukewarm. The room smelled like a steam room at an old man’s gym. There were bugs flying around me when I first sat down… not just a few. The bed was actually pretty comfortable, though.
The Location:
Pretty, right on the ocean and close to the Palace of the Legion of Honor. Great for bike riding along the ocean or across the GG Bridge to Sausalito. But, I awoke to a girl shouting, «I not goin’ near mah car… dat dude’s gonna kick my a – !» Then an hour later, somebody running up and down the stairs to the 3^rd floor and pounding on the door loudly at 3:20am. Then the Camaro doing donuts in front of the hotel and burning rubber away… you get the idea.
The Amenities:
My wife and I wanted to take a dip in the pool, however; the pool was locked and there was a permanent sign on the door reading, «Pool temporarily closed until it meets with California regulations.» Looks like it will re-​open very soon, said no one. The internet was so slow that my wife couldn’t even download a book and I couldn’t pull up some websites. 1 MPS at its fastest rate. The front desk informed us that they would have someone out to look at it for us «in a couple of days.» As noted previously, after a bike ride to the next county and back my «hot shower» was the temperature of the Pacific Ocean, outside.
I would recommend this hotel for my worst enemy. I’ve NEVER written a review for a hotel before, but felt compelled to do this one. They weren’t the slightest bit concerned with what you think.

Sure the rooms are simple, but very clean and everyone is very helpful.
The views and location are out of this world!
Breakfast is great too!!!

When I am in the US and I want breakfast, I want a diverse dish with pancakes, eggs, bacon, and that whole shebang. Unfortunately, during the weekends, they don’t have this option. You have to order everything separately. And the portions are big. And expensive. Which makes your weekend breakfast/​lunch/​brunch super expensive. And we don’t want that, do we?
I would certainly come here more often if it weren’t for this issues. Granted, they are one of the fewest American breakfast places nearby, and they have awesome omelets and the best greek meat you can find (which is the reason why my fiancé and I keep coming back every once in a while). But frankly speaking (or writing), I don’t think the price is worth it.

As my friend Dan says «it’s the best mediocre breakfast west of the Rockies.»
And you get free refills of coffee you don’t really want but can’t not drink. Mmm I can’t wait to go back.

After being seated and waiting 15 minutes, I went and grabbed a couple menus myself, at which point the tired and uninterested waitress apologized. I ordered a Bloody Mary, which was more light orange versus red. A very boring and probably the worst Bloody Mary I’ve had in SF. The orange juice is served in a tiny plastic kids cup. We ordered the combo fish/​shrimp and chips. The shrimp, I’m sure was previously frozen and not fresh, and the fish. Not bad, but you can decrease ¼ lb of oil intake by wrapping the fried filet in a napkin and gently squeeze. French fries and home made tartar sauce were good.
It’s a shame, as this place probably has an interesting story and you can’t beat the location. Needless to say we, nor anyone I talk to won’t be coming back. Good candidate for food channel’s «restaurant Impossible»

It is exactly what they advertise and they do it perfect.
Club Sando with potato salad. Great homemade pot salad, fresh roasted turkey n freshly cooked bacon. French dip had lots of meat. Juicy burger.
