My name is David Shamanik and I have been working in landscaping, with gardens/​trees, plants and shrubs in the Bay Area for a decade. I own and operate a full service organic landscaping company called Shape of the Earth which specializes in complete landscape project implementation as well as residential and commercial design, construction, maintenance and consulting. I began my career as a pruner/​tree specialist and it remains a favorite part of working with plants. Besides a base of regular maintenance gardens I complete approximately six major projects annually. My work will often include irrigation, lighting, stone work /​hardscape and water features along with design and plant selection. Basically, no job is too big or small and I enjoy whatever challenge comes up. Most of the work is done by me personally, though I also have some talented people on my team.

David gave my yard a major cleaning about a month and half ago. Both my front yard and back yard were severely overgrown, and I had several large dead shrubs that needed to be removed. I had spent a month trying to track down a single landscaper who would be willing to help me, but they were all too busy to be bothered to respond. That is, except for David. He called me right back, and came out two days later to look at the property and give me a quote.
I was even more impressed after the job. David boasted that he was the best pruner in the city, and after seeing how he pruned my Meyer lemon tree, I believe him. He also left the work site super clean, so that we could enjoy all the amazing work he’d done. And last but not least, he did this for a daily rate that was less than what I was paying the previous pruner who wouldn’t call me back! David and crew obviously put a lot of care and pride in their work, and I wouldn’t hesitate to call them again.

It’s hard to find a reliable, knowledgeable gardener. I think This guy is both. He spent 5 hours (2 guys) and did everything I wanted, schlepping stuff through the house (only way to my yard) and were neat and polite, too.
He came late… around 11 am, but did a very nice job.

David and his crew from Shape of the Earth recently completed a project in my garden in Corona Heights. We found him via Cole Hardware’s referral program, and after sitting down and consulting with other landscapers we decided to work with David. Our garden is multi-​tiered and he gave each level its own personality, and they flow together so well. David truly embraces his craft with passion. His team– Liz, Matt and Jeff were great to work with as well. Overall the garden is beautiful with a pop of color everywhere. Thank you David.

I have used the excellent services of David Shamanik for several years and although he has always done an excellent job, it wasn’t until recently that I realized how good he really is. He has been pruning my trees since they were young and impressionable. The results have been so worthwhile: beautifully shaped trees that blend perfectly with the rest of the landscape. David is not just someone with a pruning saw, he is an artist. He is sensitive to the shape of the tree, knows where it wants to go and how it should «look,» and sculps accordingly. Another designer who worked on my garden even asked me who was taking care of the trees – the ultimate in compliments from a fellow professional. David comes on time, does what he says he will do, and hauls everything off the site so thoroughly you will hardly know he was there. And his rates are fair and reasonable. I am only sorry I don’t have other landscaping projects to unleash him on. Recommend him without any reservations.

David is knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He trimmed my Chinese ‘Princess Flower’ tree so i could actually see my house AND the tree. The Japanese Maples were done very thoughtfully too. He is in no hurry to do too much chopping and has appreciation for the tree’s beauty and health. Job well done

We were lucky enough to have David come to our garden and spend a day pruning our huge Fig Tree, Lady Banks Rose, Bougainvilla, Wisteria and a few other plants. He made the garden look great! It was getting so out of control and overgrown, I did not know where to begin. Because David is such a knowledgeable Arborist and landscaper, our garden is now beautiful and I enjoy being out there. We will be having David come back at least once a year to help keep our garden in great shape.

I had a strip of land next to my house that has been a neighborhood eyesore for many years. I was finally ready to do something about it, and tried out Cole Hardware’s referral program to suggest a landscaper. Their first choice was Shape of the Earth, and although I also interviewed others, I really liked David’s professional yet totally down-​to-​earth attitude. He came over promptly, listened to my concerns and ideas for the site, and came up with some options within a few days. Ideal!
Part of what was needed was a stone retaining wall that would protect my house from soil runoff, and make it harder for want-​to-​be taggers to get close to the house. His stone mason did a fabulous job on a dry-​stacked wall!
I enjoy gardening so did the planting myself, but as I was in the yard doing it, each and every person who went by was truly overjoyed with the results. And when I ran into a snafu with some irrigation I had put in, David came over promptly and took care of it for me so I didn’t have to worry about losing my plants while on vacation.
I have already recommended him to others in the neighborhood, and gave a glowing review back to Cole Hardware. Shape of the Earth really delivered great service for me, and I’m sure I will use them for my garden maintenance too (and maybe redoing the backyard that could use some help…).
