Skunkfunk

I have been a skunkfunk fan for years, so I was saddened to learn yesterday that this location closed last month. The Haight store used to carry a different often funkier collection than what the Valencia store offers. It remains to be seen if the Valencia store will mix things up or if large parts of the collection will only be available for purchase online. Part of the problem is that the fit varies widely for the same size item, I suspect because of the asymmetry in their patterns. It make buying their items online a bit tricky. That and the smaller-​size items seem to sell out fast online.

This is a lovely shop with an eclectic collection by a Spanish designer.
the employee we net at the store was charming and friendly, advising us, and telling us about the clothes.
The store is spacious, clean and very well lit. It makes it much more comfortable to look around when a store is not overwhelmingly crowded with clothes, and hangers.
If you are looking for a unique wardrobe item/​s i believe this is the place.

Skunkfunk is cool. lots of well made clothing, with funky fabrics, and original design. Wish I was in the hood more to stop by. Oh, and it won’t break the bank either.

I stumbled on this fresh lil boutique during a 50% off sale. 50% off everything! Even though I liked the eco modern vibe of the clothes, I couldn’t find many flattering styles for myself. I ended up scoring a really cool drapey dress that has become one of my favorites. The sales person was really nice and helpful too.

The clothing designs here are very unique — bright, bold, interesting cuts, etc. If you’re looking for something no one else is likely to have (my usual MO), come here for sure. One major downsides: I had to re-​sew all of the buttons on a jacket I bought recently, because one was literally hanging on by a thread and the others were heading in that direction. If the clothes were cheaper, this might be forgivable, but they’re not. Boo for mending!
Additionally, the clothing is obviously cut for people with model proportions. I’m 5’3″, and many of the items simply don’t work for me. Some things are fine, others look a bit silly, and the aforementioned jacket will be going to a tailor. However, it’s impossible to make everyone happy on this front, so I won’t hold this against them star-​wise. Just FYI if you’re not super tall and skinny…
I don’t come here often, and assume most stuff won’t work for me when I do. However, I’ve added a few prize pieces to my closet via Skunkfunk, so I’ll continue to drop in on occasion.

I love this store! I am a waitress and my clothes and bags get good usage on a daily basis. I bought a bag over a year ago and with all the spills and usage it still looks like brand new. The sustainable fabrics and material hold up well. I was in the store the other day telling them how much I love their stuff and ended up buying another bag that was part of their sample sale. For a european boutique they can be on the high end of taste, but they have awesome sales and the people who work there are super cool-​both make the store even more appealing.

I bought a $ 40 cardigan here a week ago, and two of the buttons have already fallen off! I went back in today to see if there were any extras. It hadn’t come with any.
Not only did the person working there — the same one I bought it from — not seem to care, she didn’t offer any help whatsoever. She told me I should go buy a new button to buy at the drugstore «It would only be one or two dollars» she said.
Unfortunately, these aren’t normal buttons, and now I will probably have to replace them all.

I bought a back on ²⁄₁₁ that was on sale for $ 75, I fell in-​love with it and didn’t even question the purchase even when the cashier made it clear it was a nonreturnable item. It is a bag and i take care of my things so i was not impressed or happy when in less than a month the item is falling apart! The outside has been cracking, crumbling and falling apart! I am going to upload images but do not plan to buy anything at this store ever again! So much for the trendy…

It’s important to look good. It’s even more important to look good without hurting the environment, because being green (while not easy) is fashionable.
Chic cuts, nice materials and European style make the clothes here really stand out. Prices are on the higher side, but the threads here are as hip as they are comfortable. I picked up a cool faux-​leather jacket with an internal red lining that’s as nice to touch as it is to look at.
So do your wardrobe and the planet some good by frequenting a store that caters well to both. Say hello to Fabiola and Anna for me while you’re at it.

I love Skunk Funk.
It can be very pricey but if you get a chance to go during their sample sale where everything is basically 50% off, you won’t be disappointed. They’ve got a very eclectic style and use all organic materials. The bamboo cotton is so soft!!! And for being a brand from Spain, their sizes aren’t that bad. Especially at this Haight location, I was able to find my big size easily.
I love going to this store and would like to check out the Valencia St. location soon.

They lose a star because the men’s selection is small and as I mentioned in my review of the Mission store — it’s hard to fit an American body into their Spanish designs. Having said all that, their clothes are super unique and very fairly priced. As a bonus the staff are cool. The competition are dropping like flies — a lot of the top boutiques in the city have sold out and are peddling Chinese garbage. I will keep shopping Skunk Funk’s two locations for those unique pieces.

These clothes are pretty cool. Their textiles have interesting patterns and the cutting of their clothes is pretty fun. Many of the clothes features asymmetric or geometric details, just my cup of tea.
The regular prices are not cheap, but not overly expensive. The materials they use are good and the clothing is made well. Last time I went, they had a sample rack by the door. Most of the stuff on that rack was a size medium, sadly too big for me. The prices for the sample items were reasonable. They also had a good sale section too, items were 30−60% off depending on the season they were from.
I picked up a cute pair of mittens and jacket/​pullover dress. I like that some of the items can be worn a couple different ways, it makes them more versatile.
Overall, I really like this store and will continue shopping (from the sale section haha). The only thing I don’t like is the name. Funky Skunky? Skunky funky? It makes it seem like you smell, or something.

Really great designs, and very cute clothes. Picked up a new wallet today for $ 60.
I would give the store 4 stars except I do feel that their prices are a bit high. Almost everything is $ 50 and up.
But if you’ve got the cash flow for those boutique prices, more power to you. I definitely would’ve snapped up a couple of their unique dresses if my new wallet wasn’t so empty after buying it…

After discovering Skunk Funk in 2007 — I have never looked back. This brand is my go to for showstopping styles and everyday outfits that make you smile. At this point Skunk Funk is the only place I shop for bags and purses. The dresses are amazing too! Oh and the Jackets!
Not only do they rock for women’s styles, they also have some pretty amazing men’s too!

You got to love clothing designed in Basque.

This place has a lot of unique clothes. They have looks you’d never think of and materials you’ve never seen. A lot of their clothes are design so you can wear them a bunch of different ways. I recently bought a jacket there and I love it. Check it out. It’s hard to spot from the street, so look hard.

A fun, hip yet accessible clothing line from Billbao, Spain. The clothes are adorable and are designed to fit a woman’s body. The designers clearly pay attention to details like cut and drape, ensuring you feel sexy yet comfortable. I also LOVE the fact that many of the fabrics are made from sustainable materials.
The saleswoman was also extremely helpful. She greeted me and explained the Spanish sizing. She also pointed out which racks were on sale.
Price-​wise, it’s a mixed bag. I bought a dress for $ 30 (not on sale) and a skirt for $ 45 (on sale — 40% off).

I think I’ve got musky skunk love for ya! Like a glove, Skunk Funk fit my style and my wallet to near perfection. Reining from Spain, the clothes here are made from sustainable and sometimes recycled fabrics (according to the truly helpful sales associate).
Limited quantities improves my chances of not having the same shirt, skirt, jacket or dress as someone else while each piece has a pattern, a button, a hemline or a neckline that is slightly off centre of norm — one of my many requirements for liking much of one collection. Plus their sales racks were discounted to 50% off — score!

Cute boutique and folks here on Haight are waay more down to earth than the Valenica store. I like the fashion and detail at this spot. I wish the prices were a tad bit cheaper, nevertheless this is quality clothing!

I almost didn’t want to review this because half of my wardrobe comes from here, but this is a mid-​sized fashion label that will be eaten up by the big boys if you aren’t careful.
If you’ve studied fashion then you really can see a lot of beautiful details that aren’t immediately obvious upon first glance. Unfortunately fashion is a lot of complicated things, and very little of it has anything to do with making people feel good about themselves or even about clothes that might look good on the average person.
Most clothes are designed to fit a body type that’s common in Northern Europe and until you go to, say, southeast asia and buy a pair of jeans that’s made for a normal human being instead of a 6 foot tall genetic freak of nature, you don’t even realize how pervavise and stupid this is.
I honestly have no desire to have long, skinny legs or wear clothes built for thin people because they photograph better. it doesn’t matter how cool it looks in a fashion photograph if it doesn’t even fit you properly. neither should you have to diet to fit into a new clothing trend like skinny jeans. it’s really lame.
Skunkfunk is awesome because the clothes paradoxically look good on people who are both tall and thin, stocky and large. It’s weird. They don’t always look good on the hanger either. Some of the stuff can really push the envelope and other things look very normal until you try them on.
The coats are generally of excellent quality with many hidden details. And the dresses! Wow!
Fashion doesn’t have to be this depressing thing full of advertising that puts its customers down, it can be this creative, exhilarating way to wear art.
I just hung out and talked to the girl who works here for like almost an hour (it was a slow period at the end of the day) and then we were showing all the women that came into the shop all these things that weren’t obvious. The shopgirl is so sweet and really into clothes, I get really depressed when I think of all the aspiring, idealistic fashion students I met in new york who allowed the industry to dictate what they could or couldn’t do. I don’t know why they buy into that stuff. I get really sad every time i see something beautiful get destroyed there, to make clothes that look crappy on 99% of the population and promote images that make people feel bad about themselves.

Went to the pre-​opening celebration, and it looks like Haight got itself another good boutique. They still have some work to do until the official opening, but it’s a great start.
Clothing was cool and funky, wearable but different enough to be interesting. A nice flavor of Europe/​Spain to add to the fabric of San Francisco!
