Therapeutic Massage by Amy

Amy is a really great massage therapist. She worked out knots I didn’t know I had. It was definitely more «body work» and less «relaxing» so if you are looking just for a soft, fall-​asleep-​for-​an-​hour massage, you won’t find it here. Another great thing about Amy is that she plays good music (think Mazzy Star) instead of that horrible spa music most masseuses do (I know it often is not their fault and is piped in by the management.
Hint: entrance is not actually on 18^th St, it’s on Treat.

Just had my first (and definitely not last) massage with Amy and it was fantastic! I ran a marathon a week ago so was really looking to get some knots and stiffness worked out and Amy did a great job… I asked for firm pressure and was not disappointed (as I have been in the past with other massages). I feel so much better and would definitely recommend Amy to any runner or athlete who is experiencing soreness or stiffness!

I’ve been going to Amy for a few years now and wanted to say how fabulous she is, especially with maternity massage. She really understood my needs and made me comfortable in her space, even when I had trouble getting on the table! Now that I am having a second pregnancy, I have no doubt I will be seeing Amy more frequently to ease that back and lower body pain. Not to mention how great she is with letting me run my mouth for some mental therapy as well! Thank you, Amy! You totally ROCK!

If i could not give any stars I would. I am so disappointed with Amy’s service. I had such a hard time trying to schedule an appointment through the website and calling didn’t work either. After receiving no confirmation about the appointment I was trying to make I assumed the appointment was not booked at all. I tried again the next day and it seemed to have worked this time. An hour later I received a call from Amy and she was soooo rude. She told me I had never showed up to my appointment that day and so my voucher had been used and she wouldn’t honor it for the next day. I tried explaining to her that the scheduling had been deceiving because I never got a confirmation and she practically yelled at me!!! After reading some of the reviews I discovered I wasn’t the only one who had had trouble trying to book an appointment with her. If this has been an issue in the past she should try to fix the problem and be understanding with the next customer that experiences these issues instead of calling to yell at them for not showing up to an appointment that was never confirmed! Besides a massage therapist who is rude and has a temper problem makes no sense to me…

Amy is really great, friendly, professional and a terrific masseuse. My neck was never worked on with such care and attention. She worked out so much stuff most body workers just rub past. Loved it!

Amy gave me a solid, no frills massage. She was very nice and the massage was decent, but don’t expect spa service! The white linens, cucumber water, and sound of gently strumming harps will not be found here. That said, if you’re just in it for a good «get your knots out» massage, Amy could be the one for you. For me, however, part of what I love about massages is the feeling of being transported to another place– the darkened room, the essential oils. She did a good job in terms of the actual massage and for LOTS of people I’m sure she’ll be a great fit, but for me I can’t «melt into the table» without the accompanying atmosphere.

Amy is amazing. I have a notoriously awful back. My chiropractor has told me many times before I started with Amy that my muscles are so tight he can’t even adjust me. Amy has changed all that. I only see her once a month but the difference in how i feel is astronomical. I don’t have pain anymore, and I have reduced my visits to the chiropractor. I’ve been to many other masseuses via trubates, living social, and the like and I can tell you that Amy is the real deal, the bombdiggity. I happily pay her without using coupons. She’s worth every penny!

Amy is flat out amazing. As a medic, my back is always getting knotted up, but Amy is fantastic at working them out without hurting me or making me feel at all uncomfortable. I can always be up front with her about the pressure of the massage or where I need the most work done without worrying about anything. I’ve also had a lot of massages where the therapist was awkward with me or wanted to talk the whole time, whether or not I wanted to. Amy is great at knowing when to chat and when to just let you pass out. Always a great experience. I’m a happy regular.

I, too, got a great deal for a massage off Trubates. Unfortunately, they listed only an email address and no phone number for Amy so I had some trouble scheduling an appointment. Once I did, it was well wroth the wait.
The location is easy find. I took the 12 MUNI from downtown. The building is a cool, warehouse-​like space. I had no trouble getting buzzed in either.
If you’re looking for a spa-​like feel, though, with snotty front desk staff, overpriced lotions and cucumber water, this isn’t it. The room was large enough and the heated bed makes it super comfy. I like that Amy uses mellow music but not necessarily that chirping crickets and waterfalls crap. I suppose you could request it if that’s what you’re into.
The massage itself was amazing. I’ve had numerous massages in various spas throughout the bay area and this was easily one of the best. Amy’s technique is amazing. It’s relaxing but gets directly at all the really tough spots. I felt as though my knots melted away, slept like a baby last night and I’m still feeling it one day later.
I would recommend this to anyone wanting a serious massage without all the frills.

I used a HomeRun deal for a 1-​hr massage with Amy. She was fantastic. I had recently pinched a nerve in my neck that was causing me significant pain in my right shoulder and upper arm, and yet somehow she was able to massage those areas without hurting me at all.
She has years more experience than most massage therapists you’ll find. Her demeanor is professional yet soothing and you know she knows what she’s doing.
I enjoyed the massage so much that I have already booked another. I might make it a regular part of my monthly schedule. After all, it IS therapeutic.

I too used the Home Run coupon special to give Amy a try. I frequently get massages so I know what I like. Amy is welcoming, friendly, and very talented. She makes you feel at home and gets right to work. She is knowledgeable, and really got to my knots. Wow! Would love to go back.
She generously shared information about parking (Nob Hill is challenging at most times of day). The construction out front is an inconvenience, but will soon pass. I’ll looking forward to making a return visit.

We bought ours through a Homerun deal. One of the best massages I’ve ever had! She really gets in there and works out all the knots. I would definitely book another massage with Amy.

— $ 45 for a 1 hour deep tissue, Swedish or sports massage ($ 85 value) and decided to try this place out. It’s just a few blocks from my office so it was really convenient. This is the 4^th massage place I’ve been to in SF since moving to the city 1.5 years ago. Amy is by far the best massage therapist I’ve been to so far.
To manage expectations, this place isn’t a spa that plays relaxing music and has zen décor everywhere. It has a very no frills approach, just like Amy, who got to massaging me ASAP. I appreciated that a lot as I was incredibly sore and in dire need of a massage.
Amy has amazingly strong hands and was able to work on all of my tense muscles and knots w/​o it being uncomfortably painful. She listened to me when I said I like really hard, deep massages even though I may look bony and small. She checked on the pressure and made me feel comfortable enough to tell her what areas to work on w/​o feeling too demanding. That’s KEY to any relationship with your therapist, feeling comfortable enough to tell them what you need. We decided to focus on my neck, shoulders and back during this session as I was not sore in my arms or legs at all.
Amy was talkative, but not overly so. She’s the first massage therapist that I’ve had a full conversation with while getting massaged and actually got to know. She’s really friendly and was open to answering questions I had about her job, the art and science behind massaging, etc.

Okay, I just had a massage with Amy (thanks to a recent Homerun deal). She totally rocks! Here are some things that stood out:
I have these HUGE Frankenstein-​neck-​plug knots on the side of my neck (you can actually SEE them if I bend my neck to the right or left). Amy worked on those puppies like it was going outta style! I kept wondering if I had the biggest neck knots Amy had ever encountered. (I hope «knot»! bwah ha!). Seriously though, I was able to bend my neck SO much more easily afterwards. It was all loosened up :)
She used a lot of motion in my particular massage, which I found invigorating. Most massage therapists that I’ve been to for deep tissue massage use much slower movements and sometimes spend 5 minutes just applying unwavering pressure to a knot. Amy found my knots quickly and applied pressure that was strong and repetitive, which I prefer.
Most massages also seem to go by so quickly. She spent so much time on my arms, neck, back, legs/​feet and head, I really thought it was at least a 75 minute massage. (No, I didn’t really read the Homerun coupon details). I figured there was no way all that massaging was getting done in 60 minutes, but alas, when the massage was over, I looked at the clock, and only an hour had passed. Maybe time stands still in there? Who knows!
Amy also checks in with you during the massage to make sure you’re doing okay. There was some small talk in the beginning, which is generally a good idea when you’re naked in a room with someone.
Stuff to know before you go:
The door to the place is red, and you need to use the door code she emails to you in order to unlock it. I totally forgot about the door code part and waited on the steps next door. I started thinking, «Hmm, is she gonna meet me out front?», but then I checked my phone for the confirmation email she sent, noted the info about the door code, and was all, «Duh!».
After you get through the red door, the waiting area is a cozy, well lit hallway lined with chairs and small tables on the left and private rooms on the right. My appointment was scheduled to be in the «Sun Room», which is all the way at the end of the hall. (The names of the rooms are written inside the door frame). There’s a bathroom and water cooler too.
I already scheduled my next massage w/​Amy — gotta keep those knots in check!

I very much enjoyed Amy, This was my first time in a long while to have a massage, and she did it perfectly. The pressure was right, she focused on what i told her hurt and massaged areas i did not even know could hurt. For the price (80 $ per hr) you can not beat her service. I have been looking for a regular massage and now I no longer have to search. Thanks Amy, see you in December!

I just finished my first appointment with Amy and got a great massage! I have been traveling across the country on red-​eyes the last few weeks and my back/​shoulders were totally sore & bent out of shape. She did some very relaxing deep-​tissue work and I have been walking around like jello for the rest of the day. I got my appointment with her totally randomly through a HomeRun coupon. I had never met her before and knew nothing about her, but I will definitely go back. Thank you Amy!

Got a GREAT
deal — $ 40 for an hour massage and I was psyched! I needed a good massage as I’d had some aches and pains since starting yoga a couple of months ago. And the massage itself was good — I’ve had better but Amy is very competent.
However the leadup to the massage was a bit wonky. It was hard to reach Amy as all I had was her cell phone and she didn’t return calls right away. Then once I booked it, I got a long email about getting there early, don’t be late, etc with instructions on how to use the code to get int he building.
SO I got there about 15 min early, used the code and JUST before the gate would \have closed behind me, locking me into a very narrow doorway, I realized there was no one in the building! I quickly went back outside and had to wait in the POURING RAIN. (Yes I could have waited inside the gate but what if Amy didn’t show? I’d be stuck there locked in.)
I called Amy with no response and she arrived about 5 min before the appointment was to start. I was a bit curt and she kind of apologized.
As I said the massage was OK but I probably wouldn’t go back.

Getting a massage by Amy is really the best of both worlds.
You’ll be doing something that feels good AND is good for you. There’s no dilemma.
Amy’s a true pro who will do a wonderfully relaxing scan of your body, get an idea of your issues and pressure-​level comfort and then the true magic starts: Based on feedback from you and from her knowledge and experience, she’ll hone right in on your tight and knotty spots and that’s when the true healing starts. Knots are coaxed out, tight tissue is reminded of its correct length, joints are mobilized and balance is restored.
Go. As an athlete and trainer, I MUST keep my body in order. But, as an independent contractor, I LOVE the relaxation. It’s really the best of both worlds.

A friend recommended that I try Therapeutic Massage by Amy because I was having major issues with shoulder pain. Amy has at least ten years of massage experience, and certainly knew how to provide the relief that I was seeking. From start to finish, I had a relaxing and pleasurable experience.
Reserving time with Amy was simple and professional. She is extremely flexible with her time, and is quite willing to work with her clients’ schedules. After agreeing on an appointment time, I was sent an email with all of the necessary information to make my appointment seamless.
During the massage, Amy was knowledgeable and friendly. Her level of service was excellent, and far exceeded my expectations both in terms of quality and effectiveness of the massage. She relaxed all of the muscles in my shoulders, neck, and back resulting in significant relief that no previous masseuse has been able to accomplish. After my 1.5 hour massage, my shoulder pain dissipated and has not since returned to its previous level.
I have scheduled another appointment so Amy can continue her good work. I am not easy to impress, but I am truly convinced that Amy has the talent and experience to accomplish my goal of living without constant shoulder pain. I totally recommend her to anyone seeking therapy through massage or simply a relaxing hour to decompress.

Based out of a small non-​desrcript professionals office between Nob Hill and the Financial District, Therapeutic Massage by Amy can be a little hard to spot.
Reservations are done either by phone or email. Amy responds quickly, confirming the appointment time, and giving tips on parking nearby the space.
The massage, though, is where Amy shines. Asking, I found out she has been doing this professionally for 10 years now. That experience shows with her constantly asking for feedback about pressure. Unlike most therapists I’ve worked with, Amy was able to dig in to hit knots deep in my shoulders and back. So, she’s able to apply enough pressure to get them to release.
The hour and a half massage went by quickly, almost too quickly. But I left feeling refreshed, relaxed, and as if someone had properly reworked my muscles.
I can’t wait to go back.
