Tom Harris – Solutions in Color

Tom is great.
We had NO IDEA what colors to paint our Victorian. We drove around and looked at 100 other Victorians — didn’t see anything that we particularly liked — nothing we wanted to copy.
Tom looked at our place and talked to us for 20 minutes. He brought over some paint and started mixing. In no time, he came up with the perfect colors. Don’t know how he did it!
Then, when our painters were here and we were thinking again about where each color should go (do we want to use the accent color or the body color on the garage door?), he came back and went through it all with us again.
We are very pleased with how our place turned out and we definitely suggest that anyone choosing colors for their home call Tom!

When my parents and I first purchased our Victorian home in the mission it looked like it might have been painted to be a brothel in the 70’s. Black, gold, lavender, crimson, and army green. Each wall, each piece of trim seemed to be a different color. Not our cup of tea. Our realtor suggested that we hire a color consultant, as did a subsequent contractor we had come in to advise on the remodel/​restoration. We weren’t sure that we wanted to pay the money so we decided to ignore the advice. Fortunately, we hired Love Painting, run by Sean Love, (see Unilocal review) who came with a color consultant on staff, Tom Harris. And Tom is FABULOUS! Knowing what I know now, and having worked with Tom, if we were to do it all over again, I would without hesitation pay extra money to hire him to help us with colors. To call our family decision-​making impaired would be the understatement of the millennium. I had poured over every painting book the library had, studying warm and cool colors, how to paint trim, how to make rooms flow etc. and was thoroughly befuddled by it all. Tom came in, answered all our questions calmly and with humor, and in only a few hours we had picked colors we love. He managed to see our vision of the house before we could even articulate it and made it come to life. He got us larger samples to see how the colors would look on the walls and when we wanted a few colors slightly more this or that he got us new samples no problem. He returned our calls promptly and was always professional, cheerful and an absolute joy to have working with us. As someone who dreads making decisions, I never imagined that picking colors for a whole house could be so painless and even, dare I say it, fun. We liked Tom so much we’ve asked him to come back to help us make a stain for our softwood floors (he custom mixes stains on site) and I won’t be surprised if my mom invites him to Thanksgiving dinner. An all around great guy, a pleasure to work with and a skilled professional, I highly recommend him.

Ditto that. You’ll love Tom Harris because he’s prompt, has a lot of style, and is very professional. He really strives to make sure you love your color. He came out and ensured our door would be a third color because he thought it would look best. And it does! Thanks, Tom!

So many color swatches, so little time. I figured I could spend lots of time and money trying paint samples that didn’t quite work on the walls of my condo, or I could hire a professional. Tom swooped in, mocked up an impressive color story board and recommended a palette that I was absolutely thrilled with. He was able to accomodate the size of my space, my decorating style and my personality into his recommendation.
