Specialties

I work with teens and adults in helping to establish excellent vocal technique that can be applied to all styles of singing. I have worked with singers in bands who need a little bit of help to avoid straining and stay in tune. Older adult beginner are wonderful! Choral singers have benefited greatly from voice lesson with me. Professional soloists who need tune-​ups are also a specialty.

History

Established in 1994.

I was on staff at UCSF for ten years teaching voice classes as well as running my own private voice studio. I have been guest teacher at the Mendocino Music Festival. I have worked at the San Francisco Opera since 1996 in the chorus and as soloist and continue to have an active performance schedule as an opera singer.

Erin has been singing in the professionally in the Bay Area and Nationally for 18 years. She has been developing her teaching style for the last 20 years. she is influenced by the wonderful training that opera brings but also loves all types of singing: Jazz, Appalachian, blues, rock and musical theater. Teaching voice is a passion for her she feels that everyone can and should sing!

I’ve taken Erin’s goup class many times and it’s what has kept me motivated to sing and to keep up with private lessons. The set up is a lot of fun. First she leads a group warm up, then all students perform for one another with a top quality accompanist. Erin provides feedback on performance and vocal technique. At the end of the class, 10 weeks typically, she puts together a class recital. The entire experience is very safe. Erin has great energy, she is not a diva, and has a great talent for helping singers connect emotionally with music: she is a strong performance coach. Thank you Erin!

The best thing about Erin, besides her skill and competence and all round excellence, is her sense of fun and how to make it fun for you. Erin is the best voice teacher I have ever worked with. What is great about her is that she is natural teacher, in that sense I mean she listens really well and then figures out how to help you with your particular vocal issues. She is an acute observer and sensitively helps you find what you need in your voice and body. She is also fun and easy to work with. Love her!

I have always wanted to learn how to sing and I finally decided to do it. Erin is responsive and can blend with each person’s individual style and worldview. Her flexibility to relate to others is top-​notch. She is commanding, not demanding, in her teaching style. I always liked singing but never really focused on it.
Last year I took a voice class with Erin and learned a lot, specially about breathing and technique.
A few months ago I joined a group of musicians/​friends and seems like I’m the singer of the band!

I decided to take a group voice class with Erin to get myself into singing again. It’s been almost 20 years since I did any performing and I wanted to start in a «safe» environment with a good teacher. Erin’s class definitely filled that order and helped me to remember what I loved about singing. She is amazing teacher and I Iearned from her instruction of me and also of the other students in the class. She brought out amazing results in all of us… adjusting her approach to each of her student’s needs. I can’t wait for the next session!

Erin is AWESOME!
I was having some breathing and speech problems about 2 years ago due to a bunch of anxiety. An epiphany graced me with the knowledge that learning how to sing may help to correct some of my problems of breath, speech, and nervousness. So I called Erin about these problems and she assured me that she could help and as an added benefit I would learn how to sing!
She has absolutely transformed me. I still have the nervousness but she’s given me ways to manage it skillfully and transmute it into beautiful songs.
As for her style of teaching, she’s tough yet forgiving. Erin’s specialty is opera but she will let you study whatever speaks to your heart. So I’ve learned how to sing a country song, a pop song (duet with harmony), and a r & b song. I’m hoping one day to graduate to a full aria in Italian, but for now I am simply happy finding my voice and singing simply melodies.

I looked for a voice teacher for years, knowing that I needed someone to make the process of learning engaging and fun while helping me achieve my goals. I was convinced (and had been told) I had vocal nodes (blisters on my vocal chords), and I was bummed I had lost my high range. Erin not only convinced me I did not have nodes afterall, she even pulled out anatomy books to show me physiologically what’s going on when one sings! The nerd in me loved that! She uses all sorts of techniques to help one grow and learn that singing is about letting go! I thank my friend Annie so much for the recommendation, and I couldn’t recommend her more highly.

I took a voice class with Erin several months ago. This was my first singing class experience. I sung in choirs before, but i never tried to sing by myself. Erin is an incredibly talented singer, and, more importantly, she is a very good teacher. The class I took had singers of all levels, and she could bring the best out of everyone. I would really recommend Erin’s class to anyone who is interested in developing vocal skills. The class works best if you have one or two songs in work on, and if you know them really well. Erin can guide you to focus on what is important. The class is especially good if you are shy, since it gives you a chance to sing in front of a small group and get comfortable with an audience.

What can I say, Erin Rocks!!! I had never sang, nor played an instrument, in my entire life. Now I am not only singing in the shower, but I am singing in public, and sounding pretty good if I may say so myself. Erin is patient, unique, dynamic, and fun! She uses breathing techniques, posture, muscular release, and variety to teach the body and mind to open up and SING!

I started taking lessons with Erin when my son was 10 months old. He would lie on the rug and listen to our lessons. We were always able to focus on the lesson and accommodate his needs as well. That made it possible for me to keep singing while being a mom. My son is six now and I’m still taking lessons.
I find Erin to be an incredibly creative teacher. It seems as if she has unlimited tricks, theories, and approaches to draw upon when teaching. I particularly like her focus on breath, head position and jaw tension, as well as her use of visual metaphor to explain a idea. The lessons are always lots of fun.
