WB Surf Lessons

Do your research before purchasing from their website! They’re not currently offering surf lessons, but will not let you know that before your payments go through.
I ordered a gift card for my boyfriend for Christmas, successfully paid $ 130 for it, then never actually received the certificate via email. They said to wait 24 – 48 hours, so I gave them a week before I called and emailed. They responded that the business is going through a «company redesign» and they aren’t currently giving lessons, but would I like to wait until they open back up?
I asked for a refund and it took a month from purchase to refund (to be fair, this was around the holidays). My biggest problem? They allow you to get through the entire transaction without letting you know they’re shut down, and don’t give you any of that messaging until you reach out proactively.
Not good business practices, and not where I will leave my $ 130.

Excellent experience. Simona and Ward are super patient and total pros. I highly recommend them – and when my nephew/​niece come to visit, these are the pros we’re turning to for lessons.

really affordable. last i checked it was 110 bucks (up from 100) for a two-​hour private session. ward was the instructor, wb stands for ward bushee. or something. plus, simona waited on the shore to take a pic and warn us about the time the4 first time i was there,. the second time, they hired a part time photographer to do that part while simona went surfing. she’s also an instructor, but ward is more experienced.
i actually enjoyed it a lot more than my previous experience since i got abandoned. :(seriously by another surf school. i don’t fault them. i wasn’t strong enough to walk past the waves and the other guys were. plus i had a hard time keeping up since my feet are more sensitive.
i actually had 3 cancellations prior to my first apt w/​them and i was 15min late. the first time… i had just missed the right bus since bart was 4 min late and i had to wait an hour for it to arrive. i asked this loser for help and he gave me wrong directions to use another bus. it was so he could bitch to me about his pathetic life of perpetual unemployment. the second time, i thought my father would drive to the bart, but he said he couldn’t. the third time, bart went on strike. i was late ’cause the time it took me to get money from (paid half upfront) from safeway took longer than expected and because i was so confused since last time (with a different school) i was waiting behind taco bell and that’s what everyone told me to do.

Today I went with my sister to take my soon-​to-​be 12 yr old nephew to his surf lessons with Ward at Linda Del Mar. Ward and Simona couldn’t have been any nicer. They were very friendly and easy going. Ward taught my nephew how to stand up, when to stand up and gave high fives when the kid was successful. Even though my nephew was getting tired Ward was still patient and encouraged him to keep going.
We all had a good time even though I was watching from the beach. I highly recommend WB Surf Lessons to everyone and look forward to scheduling my nephew’s next lesson with Ward.

I’ve always wanted to learn how to surf. After moving to SF I knew I had to make it my mission to learn. My first surf lesson was through a living social offer and the class consisted 15 students and 3 instructors. The lesson was completely whack and I didn’t learn anything. After that bad experience I didn’t want to give up on surfing so I started researching. By my surprise I came across WB Surf Lessons through Instagram. I actually took the time to check out their website and watched their video. Their website and testimonals really impressed me and I’m so glad I booked a lesson with them. WB Surf Lessons, hands down, is the best surfing lesson company in the Bay Area. I took two lessons with them and WB went above and beyond for me and my friends.
Where do I begin, Ward, is a great exprienced surfer/​instructor and is very patient, knowledgeable, and overall a fun dude. I had trouble in the beginning of my lesson as far as overthinking and I wasn’t successful popping up. Ward, was quick to notice I was having a difficult time and he made the adjustments that was needed. Whatever he did worked and my first pop up was the best experience I ever had.
Simona, handles more of the business aspect of the company but occassionally instructs as well. She is very well organized, a great communicator, knoweledgeable, and a sweet person. Did I mention she also takes amazing photos during the surf lesson.

Ward and Simona run a great operation. This is a steal for a 2 hour private lesson, not to mention the tips that Ward can give you on your first board, places to surf and surfing etiquette.

I had an amazing day and I have to thank WB Surf for it! I have only tried surfing once, and was still a little shy/​scared about surfing, but Ward had me on the board and in the water in no time. I even stood up for 2 whole seconds!!! I was able to go at my own pace (which I really appreciated), but he still pushed me when I needed it. All in all, just the best! Thanks again!

My boyfriend and I took a private surf class with Ward last weekend. It was great! Ward was very disarming, patient, and knowledgeable. I was nervous about being out in the water and trying something new but he put me at ease very quickly. He picked a great beach with perfect-​sized beginner waves.
Simona was very knowledgeable and quick to respond to our emails and questions. They are a great pair. I’d definitely recommend surf lessons with Ward for anyone interested in giving surfing a try. Ever since our lesson, I’ve been excited about getting back in the water. Ward was kind enough to refer us to several helpful websites to look up surf tides and where to buy wetsuits and boards. Simona and Ward, the owners and operators of WB Surf were a real pleasure to work with, start to finish. I found them on Unilocal (thanks, ya’ll) and Simona got back to me right away with plenty of information and options for my lesson. My friend and I had a great time in the water with Ward while Simona stayed on the sand and took photos. Even though I was Terrible (yes, with a capital T), Ward was encouraging, patient and understanding through the whole lesson. I really appreciated him letting me go at my own pace.
The only improvements they can make echo Unilocalers before me: upgrade the equipment (though according to Simona, I was the last person to sport the infamous orange wet suit before they retired it!) and get some sort of signage/​sweatshirt/​branding so it’s easier to locate them at the beach.
All in all, we had an amazing day we won’t soon forget (the action –read: falling down– shots Simona sold us after the lesson will make sure of that)!

This is a solid operation. Starting off, Simona was super responsive and informative in helping me set up my lesson time and explaining what to expect during the lesson. Once we met up and got in the water, Ward provided helpful and appropriate feedback throughout my lesson. We went for the full two hours and Ward was on point the whole time. Thanks Ward and Simona!

Ward’s surfing, simply put, is great. All the gear is provided so all I had to do was show up. He was super patient and I felt safe at all times. If his forgiving foam board doesn’t make you feel like a pro then Simona’s action shots can fill that void. I will most definitely be surfing with these 2 again in the near future.

Wow… what a patient guy! My husband is quite the character and the chatty cathy, but Ward Bushee was super patient and watched, guided, and coached him for a full 2hrs! His pricing was VERY reasonable. Such a nice guy as well as his photographer Simona. I highly recommend hiring them if you are serious about taking some surf lessons. You won’t regret it and you’ll have a blast. He provides board and wetsuit (if he has any extra)…so all you’ll need is yourself, towel, and an extra set of clothes.

Who knew I could surf at my age? Ward Bushee was a patient, talented and very helpful instructor. Now I’m ready for Maverick!!!

I had a little bit of experience and had tried surf lessons before, but heading to Pacifica with Ward was a whole new ballgame. He set me up on the beach and talked me through it, worked with me on paddling out, and helped me stand up really quickly. It was great! Couldn’t recommend him highly enough… give surfing a try even if you don’t think you can do it or have had a bad lesson or two in the past like me.
