Toni Chen, DDS

We took our toddler here for her very first dentist check up with Dr. Toni Chen and we are so happy we did. She took the time to sit with us and discuss all the basics of preventative care with advice and tips on how to deal with a toddler who hates getting their teeth brushed! Dr. Chen is super friendly and easy to talk to. You can tell she is a really wonderful pediatric dentist (just look at all the 5 star reviews from everyone!) Her staff is really friendly as well! There’s a kids waiting area filled with books and toys which is great at keeping my kid busy. At the end after her checkup, Dr. Chen even had a prize box that my daughter got to pick a toy from! Later that night, we tried the tips Dr. Chen offered on how to brush her teeth successfully, and our daughter totally cooperated!

Dr. Toni, her staff and office are just wonderful. Our son got his first teeth at only 10 weeks old — earlier than our pediatrician had ever seen! And unfortunately, being that he was our first pancake, our son also got a number of cavities rather early. Apparently, his teeth are susceptible to tooth decay and we weren’t brushing well enough. :-(Dr. Toni was so kind to us, while also educating us on how to do better. She put us all more at ease. Dr. Stafford, the anesthesiologist, took the time to talk with us over the phone and answer all our questions on two occasions before our son’s tooth was pulled — and we were able to watch part of the procedure. Since then, regular checkups are a breeze. Our little guy looks forward to going! He loves the toys, prizes, the dental assistants and Dr. Toni. When he is fighting brushing his teeth at home, I remind him that «Dr. Toni says we must brush your teeth, remember?» And that actually gets him to do it!
I highly recommend Dr. Toni. Look no further for a great pediatric dentist. :-)

My child has 9 cavities, mostly on the baby teeth and some on the adult teeth. Yes we are pretty liberal with candies and this is what happens, we are classic examples of what not to do as parents lol… The recommendation from Dr. Chen was to do root canals on the baby teeth and to seal and fill the adult teeth.
Initially, I was completely fine with this treatment plan, but when I got home I reconsidered and thought that maybe the root canal on the baby teeth was unnecessary, it’s going to fall eventually anyways, right?
Dr. Chen felt that not treating the baby teeth would be a disservice for my child. She explain all the risk and maybes of not treating the baby teeth and recommended that we complete the full treatment.
She definitely knows pediatric dentistry, but I know my child best, so after a long discussion over the phone with the Dr, she agreed to just treat the permanent teeth. I understood the risk of infection from the tooth decay, and I told her I’m okay and I totally understand the choice I’m making for my child… what can I say I’m a stubborn mom…
Now after all that drama, onto the treatment…
Laughing gas is the best! My 8 year old was completely calm, mellow throughout the whole procedure of having fillings and sealants on 4 permanent teeth. Dr. Chen was explaining what she was doing every step of the way, using easy to understand kid lingo like «magic mask» = laughing gas, «forcefield» = cheek cover, «shampoo» = teeth cleaning… etc…you get the message. She has great bedside manners and kids seem to be completely at ease with her. What really impressed me was that she applied lip gloss to my child’s chapped lips 3 times, and also gave small squirts of water thru her equipment so my child is not dehydrated. The procedure was suppose to be split into two appts and we were able to complete it in one because it went so smoothly. My child walked out with two free toys as rewards for the visit.
So she really is a excellent pediatric dentist, I wish my parent took me to her as a kid. She is heavily booked so make your appointment early. And listen to her, don’t be stubborn like me!

Dr Toni is a hard worker and her staff are very nice. She is very good with kid and she makes my boys feel safe. That is still the same. Unfortunately, I had to make a hard decision to go to another dentist because I had to keep coming back for my son to fix fillings that came off. It came off 3 times until I decided that’s enough. I changed dentist a while ago and never updated my review until now. I am not one to leave negative reviews that affect people’s business negatively. I believe some things that work for some may not work for others. Wish her all the best.

My kids have been seeing Dr. Toni for 3 years now. She is a wonderful and very caring doctor. She is very gentle and works fast and thorough with kids. The staff is very helpful and friendly. We love this practice!

This review is long overdue. We are moving and now I’m faced with finding a new dentist for my 3-​year-​old. I know I will not find anyone as fantastic as Dr. Chen.
My son saw Dr. Chen for his initial check up early last year. The office is clean, the staff is friendly, and my son loved the toys in the waiting area. Dr. Chen met with me and my husband to discuss oral care and exactly what would occur at the visit. I thought my son would panic in the chair, but she put him at ease and gave him a quick exam.
Fast forward a few months later: My son fell and knocked one of his teeth loose. We were able to make an appointment for that day. She clearly explained what could potentially happen in the coming weeks with his tooth. I’m glad she didn’t just send us on our way because it abscessed and when I saw it, I knew exactly what it was. Thanks to our earlier visit with Dr. Chen, I knew to look for the abscess and I was able to spot it before it became painful.
We took him in right away and she let us know our options for treatment. The tooth had to be extracted and I was heartbroken. I couldn’t bear the thought of my little boy going through an extraction and his toothless smile for years to come. She had an appointment available that day and I respect that she didn’t rush me into it. I think some dentists would have simply stated that the tooth needed to come out and tried to pressure us into doing it while we were there. Dr. Chen told me me to take the time I needed to make the decision and to call the office when we decided on the treatment option. I considered a second opinion, but after consulting Dr. Google, I knew she’d made the right recommendation. I scheduled the extraction.
Extraction day: She explained exactly what it would entail, including the fact that they would have to restrain my son in a papoose board. She allowed one parent in the treatment room and kindly suggested that it be my husband (the calmer parent). The procedure was as quick and painless as it could be. Of course, my son cried (so did I). The office called later that afternoon to see how he was doing. He was perfectly fine by the afternoon and it hasn’t bothered him since.
Bottom line: Dr. Chen is great with kids and neurotic parents.

My daughter had a tooth that wouldn’t come out even though her big girl teeth were coming in. Dr. Toni was sweet, quick, and painless … My daughter didn’t even know she has her tooth extracted.
My little one came at one, one and a half and two. Each time he had no problems!

My 2 yr. old had an accident and injured her front tooth. We were referred to Dr. Chen and she was able to see us the next morning and saved the day! Honestly, she made us feel so comfortable. She was very patient, thorough and explained everything. The whole experience was great. The staff was very nice and the office is so kid friendly and clean.

Toni is seriously the best. She’ll communicate with you on what to expect. She’s good at what she does, because her character exemplifies through her work. She’s compassionate, patient and wonderful with kids (especially with me). Sometimes I wish she could work on my teeth too! :)

Extremely kid friendly place. Staffs is helpful and nice. I had to reschedule a lot due to sickness and they were more then understanding. Dr. Chen is wonderful and great with kids!

When I found out from my dentist that my 3 year old daughter had to have general anesthesia for some dental work, I flipped. I searched long and hard for a pediatric dentist whom we and our daughter would feel comfortable with. We were blown away by Dr. Chen. She was the ONLY dentist who was willing to allow us to visit our daughter during the procedure. She took a great amount of time with my husband (who took our daughter in for the initial visit) and then when I called with some additional questions, Dr. Chen spent 30 minutes on the phone with me to go over everything she told my husband plus answer my questions. She was super friendly, upbeat, encouraging, and put me at ease on the day of the procedure. I came in crying and she and her staff comforted me and took great care of ME while also treating my daughter! The procedure went beautifully and we were all so happy with the results. By the way, her anesthesiologist, Dr. Stafford, is also awesome. Dr. Chen and her team are amazing and you cannot go wrong with them.

We switched pediatric dentist to Dr. Chen and were not dissapointed. The office is very soothing for kids. Dr. Chen and her staff were meticulous in making my 2.5 year old boy feel comfortable and allowed him to play with the tools and he LOVED IT! He sat through the entire session and wanted to come back!
Highly recommend! We’ll be bringing both of our boys here from now on!

Recently my daughter had to get 4 teeth pulled because of braces. I was extremely glad that we had switched our daughter’s dentist to Dr. Toni half year ago. Because my daughter had such good previous experience with Dr. Toni, she was not that nervous when she found out that she had to get her teeth pulled due to overcrowding. Once again, Dr. Toni never failed us. Both her and her staff were superb!!! Dr. Toni was doing such a job in talking about all sorts of things that my daughter was interested in to calm her down, that before my daughter knew it, she was half drowsy from the laughing gas that I don’t think she felt a thing when she had ALL 4 teeth pulled! It was one of the most calming teeth pulling experience that I have gone through. Her assistant Jackie was also extremely good in immediately hiding every pulled tooth as well as the bloodied gauze so my daughter never got a sight of it. There are several pediatric dentists, however there are only a few that can really connect with the child and ease their anxiety; Dr. Toni is definitely one of them.

Dr. Toni is also one of the most ethical dentist that we have been to — both adult or children dentist. She will not have you do certain procedures just so she can bill for them. She definitely has your considerations in mind and has several times told me to not perform certain procedures because she did not feel the need to. Thank you Dr. Toni for your professionalism and your caring ways.

My children went to another pediatric dentist previous to us knowing Dr. Chen and we were very disappointed. All the previous horrific crying dental appointments were miraculously erased by Dr. Chen. Once you go in her clinic, the ambience is very child friendly, warm and happy. There is a cute children ‘theatre” room where my girls were immediately attracted to walk in and just feel at home watching TANGLED. There are many favorite toys and books in the patient waiting lounge and immediately the fear of going to a doctor’s office is effectively relaxing. We were greeted by very friendly smiles from each staff and the hygienist reinforced why brushing and flossing was very important and educated the proper brushing method to my girls. She then guided my eldest daughter to the dental chair and took x-​rays. It was done in a matter of minutes and had I not taken a peek and what was going on, I would not have known the x-​ray was being taken! This to me is a BIG plus. Our previous dental x-​rays was just tearful to her and my daughter kept gagging on the xray plates. Next, the hygienist informed my daughter she was going to clean her teeth and I really liked the fact that she introduced each tool she was going to use. She would use very children friendly terms with the saliva vacuum calling it a «straw» and she would ask my daughter to feel the sensation on her hand first and next the water/​air spray and feel it on her hand. Having little kids feel that it’s really nothing puts away the fear of what will be put in her mouth.
Finally the dentist, Dr. Chen! She is not only pretty but extremely friendly and would distract my daughter during the entire session. She would distract my daughter that she is using her princess mirror to count how many princess teeth my daughter has even though she is really checking if there is plaque build up or cavities. It was a breeze and before you knew it, the session was finished. My daughter anticipated the favorite part of running to the prize box to pick a price reward for doing such a good job. We left the office needing to do some more work this week but the experience was so positive that Tiffany was actually counting the days for the next visit! It’s really quite unbelievable but true!
So today was the nervous day for me thinking she was going to go through anesthesia shots and cavity fills and she was going to cry. But somehow, it was so skillfully applied that Tiffany didn’t feel a thing when she was finished! I was standing outside b/​c I was afraid that there was going to be some drama from the anesthesia shot and I let Dr. Chen do her magic and sure enough she sealed her permanent teeth and performed her cavity fills and the 45 minute went by quickly. My husband nervously called after the appointment and talked to Tiffany «did it hurt?» and she looked very confused and said «what daddy? the dentist was only polishing my teeth to make sure I have nice and beautiful princess teeth! She’s just making me more pretty like her!»
I don’t usually write so lengthy reviews but I feel that this is something that needs to be shared. For all those who have those anxieties with taking your children to the dentist, you’ve got to take them to see Dr. Chen. For those who don’t have anxiety with dental appointments, seeing Dr. Chen will only bring it more positive. My daughters are now brushing very hard every day and the experience has reinforced to them that brushing is very important. The experience difference was so huge that I have nothing but positive things to say about this. We won’t wait one year anymore for the dental appointments. We’ll be sure to be back in 6 months.
