A5 Smog Check

Found this place in Penny Saver under «Sunny’s Autoelectric», they have a coupon for a smog check for «$ 19.95 + cert. & fees» so I called to ask the total price and the guy said $ 35 «out the door». Already that seems higher then whats advertised as cert. is only $ 8.25. I get to the place and I’m told $ 45 with coupon! I tell him that I was quoted $ 35 over the phone and it’s a mumbly «ok, give me the keys».
I told the man I need to leave by 5:40 to get my son, it wasn’t a clear but I was done by 5:15, less then 20 minutes all together.
So not fabulous service, a lil difficult to understand but fair price and fast service.

Agree with Kirby F — Don’t go there just because they are open on Sunday. For me it was the only free day I could do it and boy, what disappointment it is. First, because my car is 1994 («older» than 1995) apparently DMV requires «more» testing as «high emitter profile» and this causes a chain reaction of «additional charges». They quoted $ 50 over the phone but when I came in with their own coupon from the «Penny saver» advertisement, they said the $ 50 was «already with 30% off» and the original price was $ 75. They did not say this over the phone and I told them nothing over the phone about the coupon. Also feigning bad English as to not understand what I am telling them,
It took them over an hour to do the test even though my car was the only one there for the Smog test but the 2 guys working on it (yes it apparently takes 2 guys at that shop to do on smog test) were taking in new customers coming in and working on 3 or 4 cars in parallel, fixing someone’s flat, leaking gasket and god knows what else.
Anyway, I felt bad for this obviously disadvantaged minority business and gave them the $ 50 that they wanted. They need to learn to do business to get my business. So far they fail.

Don’t go here for a smog test. The Indian guy does not know what he is doing. Not only was he rough around my truck (scratching my paint with his belt and tools) he was also slow and impersonal (hard to get any answer or suggestions from him). So my brother in law who was formerly a certified smog expert said that he never pinched the fuel line when performering the fuel testing. Sure enough he took my truck to his friend’s shop for the week and they found out that’s what the problem was. $ 78 down the drain for a stupid pinch of a line!!! People beware… do not risk going here just because they’re open on a Sunday. It can wait.

Sonny failed smog check for a missing mounting bolt ($ 26). He asked for $ 200 to fix it and lowered to $ 175. My trusted friend (TT) fixed the bolt for $ 50. Sonny refused to retest. TT accompanied the third visit and argued with Sonny, who rejected again to retest and offered $ 100 for fixing. TT adjusted a cover to Sonny’s liking. Sonny pressed on the gas pedal aggressively and somehow passed it for the remaining $ 9 after four lousy visits. Too much stress for $ 35. Avoid his other nearby shop, 76 at 1100 S. White Rd, San Jose.
