Chillfactor Frozen Yogurt Lounge

Chill factor is just alright.
PROS:
+ I love the design and decoration inside. It’s a cute modern looking design that girls would love.
+They make crepes! I haven’t actually tried it but any place that serves crepes is awesome too me!
CONS:
–Yogurt was a little too wet. It seems like for most of the yogurt I got from this place it was melting before I would pay.
–The selection of toppings is a little limited compared to other yogurt places.
–The selection of fresh fruit was running low when I was serving myself.
–It was quite hot in the place… maybe some more ventilation would help.
So overall this place is alright. I would probably go here just because it is located in Downtown San Jose and near the SJSU campus but other than that find somewhere else to go.

Well that was quick, this place is already closed. They actually put a lot of effort into the appearance/​ambiance/​design of this place for it to be a decent hangout and not just a place to grab yogurt and run. Damn shame it’s closed already…

I’m going to miss going to San Jose State because of this place.
I always come here after class to get a little snack. I love the décor and set up, too cute.
The yogurt is amazing. I’m a strawberry frozen yogurt freak — so anytime I see it I have to have it. Chillfactor’s is AMAZING. Must have more!

The guy behind the counter was a sweetheart and extremely friendly. 4 stars for him.
Now the frozen yogurt needs alot of work. They have a good selection of toppings, but the frozen yogurt starts melting the minute its poured out of the spout. It doesn’t have Yumi yogurt characteristics, but if they fix the machines, people will come back

A little while back, it started to heat up in downtown San Jose. As residents of DTSJ, La Novia and I felt it was our duty to try this place out. Or maybe it was just hot. Or maybe we have become comfortable and don’t count our calories anymore.
Regardless of the real reason for coming here, I am glad we did. The owners really transformed the interior of this old Victorian home into a hip, stylish, comfortable frozen yogurt lounge. It is fully furnished with tables, chairs, couches, counters, and pillows. In addition, there is a large flat screen TV and several iPod docks for those wishing to zone out by listening Tony Robbins speeches or the new Ke$ha album. So yea, this place really looks great and all that blah, blah, blah…
Anyway, as much as the place looks «cool,» the bulk of the star rating always comes down to the product offered. And the problem here is that fro yo isn’t that «cool.» And I mean this in a literal sense.
As much as I loved putting together huge fro yo cups (priced by the ounce) full of Reese’s peanut butter cups, Heath bar bits, Snicker pieces, sprinkles, gummy bears, pretzels, assorted sugary cereals, and other unhealthy options; I just hate it when my cavity causing creation begins to melt and begins to become runny when I am not even halfway through sharing it with La Novia. This happened to us on our first and second visit.
It brings about the old saying of fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. However, it’s an easy problem to solve: lower the temperature on your fro yo machine to make sure it says frozen longer. Duh.
In conclusion, there is one thing you need to factor before you chill at Chillfactor: the fro yo. While the place is cool to hang out at, the fro yo isn’t cool enough. It makes me want to skip that Ke$ha track and put on some old school New Edition and tell the fro yo girl behind the counter to the fro yo machine and…

This place has the best selection of Frozen Yogurt. The last time I went they were carrying organic frozen yogurt, how awesome is that?!!
It’s in a very cool location also, in one of downtown SJ’s old Victorian homes. However, the inside is completely renovated and modern. It’s a cool place to go and sit down with friends after dinner or during the day. They even have ipod/​iphone docking stations.
It’s a great place for students because you can take advantage of the free wifi and their service is great ;)

This place has one of the coolest names ever, and the theme of the building’s interior does a good job of being a «chill factor.»
While I still think the froyo craze is simply a fad, what sticks out about this particular place is the fact that they make crepes. That’s all sorts of hype for girls.
But aside from that, this place is pretty small. The flavors of froyo the offer are are quite impressive, and the ingredients they have are the same as any place would have. I ordered their original tart and red velvet yogurt and put the same cheesecake and mochi toppings I always add, and I was quite satisfied. They weigh by the ounce as most places do, and they even offer a 10% SJSU student discount.
To the back right, there’s an LCD display TV with an iPod dock right under it, which is a nice touch if you just want to chill with your friends while having a froyo. But the one thing that makes this room sketch is the broken window that they still haven’t gotten fixed.
This isn’t the best place downtown, but considering its short distance away from San Jose State, this place should have okay businesa.

First initial encounter. 3.5 stars.
Even after eating Iguanas, some of the kids wanted. wait WHAT MCDONALD’S? I don’t understand. apparently some of them wanted ice cream (shudders). Some of our other students wanted to go to Hydration. I wanted fro-​yo. While 20 students went to McDonalds with the other chaperone, the other 7 and I went to Hydration (they got various pearl drinks) and then came here.
Very calming atmosphere which is nice. cute stools and seating. Unfortunately for me, the fro-​yo machines were getting calibrated… still craving something sweet, I opted for the crepes. The nutella, coconut and banana crêpe was decent (although I would have like a tad more whipped cream). One of my students got several mochi ice cream balls and shared them with his friends.
The person working behind the counter was pleasant and encouraged us to do a fundraiser… hmmmmmmmmmmm… more to be continued!

FINALLY! A Fro-​Yo place that is self serve that is near SJSU Campus, FINALLY! Yes, there are places near SJSU but typically they weren’t self serve. What sucks? I graduated Spring 2009! But since I still have friends who attend SJSU, it was nice to go visit them and enjoy a nice cup of self serve fro-​yo.
What can you say about Fro-​Yo? There seems to be a lot of choices to choose from in terms of flavors and toppings. The atmosphere also seemed very fro-​yo esq. The night we went however, it was literally dead inside. Perhaps it was too chilly for the students? I can’t say much, except for this, the yogurt consistency came out quickly from the machine. Now I know a family friend who own CoCo Swirl in the East Bay and I was told usually when fro-​yo just comes out quickly, the batch made was diluted with water. If it was true 100% dairy, it comes out slower from the machine. You can also tell by the way it melts. Too fast? too slow? I am not saying it was bad, I mean I am not a fro-​yo snob but it was decent tasting.
Overall, I give this place a 3 stars. Its decent, not too bad and its perfect now for those SJSU students who want a nice dessert after class, test, finals, etc. its also perfect for those who live downtown :-) Oh, the last down side to this place is there is a 5 dollar minimum for credit card use. REALLY?! ugh.

This dessert joint just satisfies your craving. Nothing that special.

I ordered a nutella crêpe and whipped up a bowl of yogurt & toppings. Two things that annoyed me about this place was
1.) the topping plastic container lids don’t stay up. whereas in some places they have magnets on the lids so it’s easy to scoop out the toppings
2.) after ordering, i noticed a SMALL label saying they offer 10% as a student discount (great, that’s like 50 cents i could’ve saved! hey! that’s something!) oh well!
I think i will come back again just because it’s so near to campus, but it’s not the best yogurt shop out there.

The place is really cute and chilling with their décor. If you know the location, you would rather sit outside to get some sun while having your treats.
However, if you want great yogurt or froyo, this is really not your first place to pick. I never had it once with only ¼ full of cup of yogurt and toppings in the «small size» bowl. There are only 10 flavors and none of them are ORIGINAL tart taste at all. Sooooo disappointed! And some even runs almost like water. Not even as hart as the milk shake you get from McDonald’s.
2 stars is given because I have seen a list of crepes. I might come back to try out the crepes. They might be better, HOPEFULLY!

For a place called chill factor, the place was pretty chill (much needed lol here).
After an adventure for some orange sauce at La Vics, my friends and I needed a place to wash it all down, tempted to go to ben and jerrys across the street, we decided to turn the corner to chill factor.
Once we all walked in, the first thing we all noticed was the atmosphere. Very nice setting for students. Right when we noticed the ipod docks in the walls, my friends and I instantly said «we need a place like this in sac!»
I dont know much about frogurt, or froyo, or whatever hipsters call it, but i guess it was good. only like my 3^rd time having some. first place ive seen with red velvet flavor, once i told my friend who works at a frogurt place in vallejo, she was jealous too. i guess i gotta try more places to truely judge the taste as compared to a couple of negative reviews ive seen so far about the yogurt here.
The service was good with all 1 girl working at the time. most likely a student, she seemed to enjoy our attendance as opposed to non student worker establishments. welcomed our ipods to be played, joined in on conversations, even played 10 fingers for a minute haha.
so ya, if you want a place to chill at while youre in san jose, might as well check out chill factor, i shouldve have a nutella crêpe while i was there, aww frowny face =(

Perhaps I missed out because this was a ‘grab and go’ froyo run and it seems like more of an atmosphere thing CF’s got going on, but I was not impressed. First of all, 39 cents an ounce… really?
Secondly, their yogurt was soupy and I felt like I had to shove it down my throat so that it wouldn’t melt. I like my yogurt firm, and to stay firm until I finish eating it at a leisurely pace. This was like, me racing against the yogurt melting, and the yogurt definitely won — by a landslide.
A plus was the fact that they had peanut butter flavor.
The toppings are the same as any other froyo stop, nothing special.
I suppose I will give CF another chance, and next time i’ll stay while eating. Maybe the «chill» atmosphere will rub off on me, and make my yogurt stay frozen for longer: P

This place is awesome!!! Me and my BF went there last night cause I had a sudden urge and craving for some FROYO and he was able to find via his handy dandy Omnia 2! LOL So apparently, the place used to be called SubZero Frozen Yogurt, but when we got there the sign said Grand Opening. Pakring was horrible! Maybe due to it being a Friday night or maybe because it is downtown San Jose IDK, but it was worth it.
You walk in and instantly your like Whoa, this is different. The place wasn’t packed but there were about two groups of young folk like me so I didn’t feel too outta place. My BF said he felt like he was being watched, but I think he is just paranoid.
When I got to the counter, I kinda just stood there expecting the yogurt would fly outa nowhere and land in my hand… lol…Nah, but there are like NO SIGNS or instructions on where everything is. Luckily, the lady behind the cash register noticed I was at a loss for brain function and showed me where the cups were and what not.
UPSIDE: Do it yourself yogurt, bright and upbeat atmosphere, HELLA toppings, good selection of yogurt flavors, Ipod docking stations at the «bar» and you can even listen to ur tunes over the speakers!
Down Side: There was a broken window with a sign taped on it that read, «Broken window» LOL, counter lady not very friendly couls have been a little more cheery, hard to find parking, yogurt charged by pound at .39 cents a pound. I think it should be .29 cents a pound.
Other than that, its a cool place to chill!

There is seating to the left and right once you walk into the «lounge.» It is a pretty rad setting in terms of color and décor. Youre able to bring in your ipod and insert it into this wall adapter thing to play your music. Free wi-​fi, but it was not working when I went.
There were 10 flavors. if I remember correctly. A lot of them were in the process of freezing, so it was a bummer. The flavors that were supposedly ready to be served, were not solid. Grotesque. I remember this place as yog place with liquidy yogurt. They had red velvet cake, but the machine was broken and the yogurt took forever to freeze. My favorite flavor was none. They were all average, nothing stood out. They have various toppings, fruits, cereal, candy bars, rainbow mochi. 39 cents an ounce… pricey much? Worth it if you actually plan on lounging, not so much if you are to-​going the yogurt. SO IF YOU PLAN ON TRYING CHILLFACTOR, plan on lounging a little bit so you kind of get your yogurt’s money worth. Yadida? I would like to come back and hope the yogurt is solid instead of liquidy. Oh yea, they serve crepes.

chillfactor’s décor is blue and white. the main room has a lengthy comfy sofa and some curvy chairs. the back room (lounge) has a tv and some more seating. all shops on this street are from converted victorians.

ALRIGHT… ANOTHER FROYO SPOT IN THE HEART OF DOWNTOWN SAN JO… I’VE EXCITED TO TRY THIS SPOT…
When it comes to décor… this is definitely a 5 star ***** Froyo place. Probably the cutest décor I’ve seen when it compares to all other froyo spots. There’s plenty of rooms for seating, various tables, flat screen tvs, and free wi fi. I was in awe when I first walked in: ‘This place is sooooooooooo cute’.
However when it comes to the Froyo itself, I am not really a fan. It’s more like a two ** stars as far as taste goes. It was alright, but nothing like Yogurtland perfection. Since I came here at the end of the night, there were ingredients that were barely filled. Not too much selection when it comes to toppings, but decent.
I didn’t like the selection of flavors… I grabbed about 6 taster cups and in the end defaulted to just plain chocolate but everything else was mehhhhh… I have yet to see if they change there yogurt flavors weekly. I think if they had more exotic flavors or more tropical flavors this place would do a bit better. But guess I’ll have to come back again and maybe when it gets a bit hotter.
This would have been a 2.5 star review hadn’t it been for the 30 cents per ounce (good for college students) and the lovely décor. I love the blue and white theme.
Don’t worry I’ll be back to give it one more shot!

Fro-​yo within walking distance from work?! Uh-​oh.
As with most people who’ve reviewed this place already, it’s a nice treat to have after scarfing down an Iguana burrito.
A very clean place, I love the wall at the entrance with the customer photos. a nice touch. Yogurt is tasty (lots of non-​fat options), and the toppings are good (saw some new ones to me like Twix and Kit Kat bars). It’s 35 cents an ounce, and there is lots of comfy seating (it really is lounge-​like!).
Awesome place to go, a good alternative to Ben and Jerry’s just down the road.

Came by for dessert after a quick dinner at Iguanas. The cool employee there reminded me to get some after he was eating out of his cup and suggested we get some too… LOL
This time I got the raspberry pomegranate and cookies and cream. The rasp-​pomg was tart, flavorful, I only wished I filled my cup up with more after. The cookies and crème froyo was good too, I love the consistency of yogurt here, not too dry or watery at all, just perfect.
The owner remembered me from my last visit, she even called me by my name, I was quite surprised. I only felt bad because for some reason I thought her name was Jennifer and even put that name in my review below. So I just wanted to clarify the nice, friendly owner here is Miriam (Hopefully I got the spelling right… haha)

This place is perfect for San Jose. I am not going to sell it as the best froyo ever as they don’t have fresh mochii and i don’t love love the tart but other then that it is AWESOME.
They have 8 — 10 flavors, tarts, sorbets, and regular creamy vanilla and chocolate. They have fresh fruit toppings, cereal toppings, and chocolate. Its make your own and it is 35 cents an ounce.
The lounge is what makes it so cool. Its all done in blues and whites with hardwood floors and there is tons of seating, bar stools, couches, window seats, etc. Plus they have wifi and 10% student discounts.
Hats off to you Chill Factor!!! Now all you need is fresh mochii.
