Note to everyone: Try to call in the order if you’re in a rush. They’re prompt about it and the guy who usually works there is really nice and makes sure that you’re ok. The food has always been pretty good. I’d rather go with a wrap for the falafel because the plate is a little skimpy but my Persian boyfriend really likes it here and appreciates Stye thought of some of the dishes. Once they get another cook, I think it’ll be 5 star worthy.

The place is very casual, and even has a pool table to play with. There is even ipod docks for people to plug and play music. As for the food, it was amazing for the price. Their dips were also delicious. I would definitely come here again.

Loved this place. Even thought it was late at night and really dark out I could still see the place well lit on the corner. It really was late, I think we went in around 11pm. The place is nice and bright, great smells coming from the kitchen, menu is fully visible for all blind ppl(Including myself, beyond blind) and easy to read. I love the fact that they had ipod docks to charge or even play your music over their speaker system. Oh yea so the food, LoL, the . Plenty of flavor to last me till morning, sauces to add that were scrumptious as well. This place was just awesome!

A good place for a quick meal in downtown San Jose near San Jose State and a short walk to First Street. My son and I were in the area to attend Opera San Jose’s performance of Bizet’s Perl Fishers(great show!) but only had a short time before we had to get to the California Theatre on First Street. We parked in the city parking structure on the other side of San Carlos avenue and saw a few eating establishments across the street. After perusing the menus, we decided on the Kebab Shack for their Falafel sandwiches. We each ordered a Falafel Pita sandwich(a great bargain at $ 5.45 each) and an order of Afghan Bread($ 0.95) to share. We then were invited to sit ourselves inside or outside. We chose an outside table with a shade umbrella. We must have looked interesting sitting there dressed up for the Opera(Tux and Bowler hat). The waitress brought out the food, along with three different sauces(a chutney sauce, tahini, and tzaziki). The Falafel was delicious, but served in an unusual way. Instead of the ingredients stuffed inside the pita, it was laid on top of the pita and the pita rolled around it. This requires careful holding to preserve the structural integrity of the wrap, or else the entire contents will be dumped. We were very careful and didn’t spill our sandwiches, but it was a challenge! The Falafel sandwiches were very good. I recommend them. The Afghan bread was thin, but soft and was very good with a bit of sauce on it. We were able to have a filing, inexpensive, and quick meal and made it on time to the Opera.

Don’t let the name fool you Kebab Shack is anything but a shack. KS wows you with the modern clean interior of mod stools, pool table? Yup they got a pool table, and iPod ports ready for all your tracks. The food is Halal ! Need I say more? Serving up fusion of favors. Try the combo meals or tri — tip pita sandwich(that’s what’s up). And to top it off they close late, meaning after 2 am. My new favorite spot in DTSJ.

Honestly, I am in lalalalalalave. The place looks great. You immediately feel the chill environment when you step in. There’s a pool table on your right and they have these cool ipod charging things on the wall. The place is usually pretty empty so that means NOLINES. what a deal. i recommend the tri tip pita. Getting late night munchies just thinking about it. =]

A decent place that offers solid Med offerings near the SJSU campus. I got a gyro special which was the gyro plus fries and drink. It took a while for my gyro to be made so I took a look around the place. There was a big pool table and couch seating in the backroom and the front room also hardly had any seating. The most comfortable places to sit were outside on the street level. The gyro was pretty good… and a bargain at $ 8 with fries. I didn’t get my drink though which was a bit irritating but I’m not crying over missed soda. They seem to tout their fresh, high quality ingredients so I may give them a try another time.

I think this will be the new go to spot in downtown SJ because: 1. it opens late on weekends — till 3am! *awesome* 2. you can order good food here(try the steak pita, delish!) 3. you can HOOKAH here! I deducted 1 star because there is only ONE person working so the wait takes forever. The guy that works here also forgot to bring out the missing mouthpiece for the hookah and we had to wait some more. Hopefully the service gets better because I would love to come here more often.

If I stretch it for nice outdoor seating, I’d say 2.5 stars. Three of us went for lunch today, service was painfully slow –not good if you only have an hour for lunch– and confusing. It seemed there was only one person taking orders, working the register & taking food out to tables(there had to be someone else doing the cooking right?) When my turn came to order at the counter, the young woman at the register turned and picked up a ready order and dashed outside to deliver it to a table. I thought I had been abandoned! Was it my breath? When she did return and took my order, I received no receipt, wasn’t asked my name, and as I sat down at a table outside, I worried how she’d know where to deliver my food? Turns out my two coworkers got the same treatment. I ordered the pita falafel and a fountain drink. For around $ 7 it was a fair value, however, the pita pocket contained 3 falafel balls that I swear came from a mix. The spices were OK but the falafel balls themselves were dry. My one coworker ordered the curry chicken pita and said the flavor was pretty good. My other poor coworker ordered the nightmare: a Gyro wrap without hot sauce. She was also told that for 25 cents more she could have french fries. When her Gyro was brought out it had hot sauce on it and she sent it back(why don’t they warn you ahead of time about the hot sauce?) A few minutes later the remade Gyro came out(no hot sauce) accompanied by what appeared to be potato salad –it was cold so we assumed it was potato salad. She mentioned to the server that she had ordered fries and while walking away our server said not to worry about it. My coworker then said, «No, I ordered and paid for french fries, I want the french fries.» Pretty soon a basket of fresh, hot fries, glistening with fryer oil –also undercooked– was placed on our table. Surprisingly, the food tasted pretty good overall but is it worth another trip back anytime soon? The three of us agreed probably not. When I got back to work, some of my students who are regulars at the Kebab Shack said that evenings were the best time to go, stay away at lunch time. NOW they tell me!

Their giant pita sandwiches contain fries. I am so down with that. Could use less raw onions though.

This was a good little place to come. It was small and empty when we came, so we got the window seat inside, which was a cute place to sit :) I asked if the falafel pita or the grilled veggie pita was better and was recommended to get the grilled veggie pita(about $ 6). It was a good size and the flavor was great. It was a little pickly but I enjoyed it. The pita was soft and warm, and I wish they had wheat pitas. I also wish they had a student discount :) They use the Five Star system to earn points for your meals.

Major hunger pains after Cinequest led me back to The Kebab Shack after a(much too) long hiatus… Still damn tasty food coming out of this place, and nice to see they’ve worked out all the kinks from grand opening. Their soft, fluffy pita bread is what dreams are made of… The perfect vessel to deliver tender slices of beef/lamb, creamy-cool tzatziki, and crisp veggies. Only problem: I wanted more. Not sure if I was just extra hungry or if my gyros($ 5.95) was extra good(most likely both), but I was really sad when all I had left in my wrapper were bits of tomato and red onion. Maybe a little hookah will help fill the void next time.

MEAT = JUICY, obviously. Came in here with my groupon purhased months ago just to give this place a try. I decided to get it to go since it was such a cold night. ordered: 1. steak kebab plate with garlic mashed potatos. damn this steak was JUICY. but besides the good steak, everything else was mediocre. the garlic mashed, eh. salad? i can make it too. rice? i make better rice still. 2. chicken breast pita this pita was GOOOOOOD. even better than the plate! overall, prices were higher than they were before. i think an extra dollar or two for each item than from when they first opened. portions need to be bigger, esp for the dudes, we gotta eat man.

Definitely a great deal I sored on Groupon! I paid $ 7 for $ 16 worth of food. I ordered the chicken and beef combo platter with fries. Then, I got a side of onion rings and samosas. I even checked in through Unilocal and they gave me a free fountain drink. The food was tasty and the service was fast! I had everything to go. The best part is park your car at McDonalds and run over. I’ll definitely be back for some Mediterranean cravings! This place is dirt cheap!

This is a very typical place for a college kid to be eating at. The food here is pretty decent and is fairly quick. Only a block away from the SJSU campus this place seem half-way healthy compared to all the other food joints on the block. This place has free wifi, all you need to do is ask for their security key if you are there. Also you can even connect your ipod to have the music hit the beat in the location. The interior of the place is painted with a white and red theme. I normally come here to order their falafel salad. It’s a very simple diced salad with a few falafel balls and dressing of choice. Additionally, Same of their pita sandwiches have french fries in, for those who dont like the extra starch: you been warned. :P —– + Pro: Great food to fill the college student’s appetite. — Con: Can’t really think of a negative. :P (^_^) Overall: Great food for a decent price.

This place is really interesting. It’s a pretty hip place where they have ac outlets and ipod wall dock chargers. There’s also a pool table for people to play pool inside. There’s quite a variety of food. The chick kebab and beef kebab tasted okay. It was great, but it wasn’t bad. The food’s pretty average. However, the french fries they have are pretty good.

So I found out that this restaurant is new. I started going here a couple times over the past week so I can give an accurate review on here. The atmosphere is just really awesome here. It’s small inside but they have a pool table and a nice lounge area where you can play your own music by docking your iPod. To be honest I’m very confused by the negative reviews on here, sure they can still make improvements but this place has a lot of potential going for it. They’re also open until 3AM on the weekends which makes it a nice hang-out spot even after a night out. The service is friendly but it does take a while to get your food. I would say the wait is definitely worth it. So far I found the food quality to vary depending on what you get. Chicken Breast Kebab is the best that I’ve tried on the menu so far but the rest of the food I tried was just mediocre at best. Also I wish how the prices aren’t so steep for what you get as well, too bad the portions are smaller than I expected. I’ll give this place 4 stars because they’re open late on the weekends!

My friend got me a coupon for FREE drink, fries, or bolani so I tried out The Kebab Shack. They’ve been open about 3.5 weeks. Tiny place only fits about 20 people inside, some outside seating. It used to be Chillfactor Frozen Yogurt, next to Hydration House & across from McDonald’s — 312 S. 3rd St @ E. San Carlos, near SJ State. They take Credit Cards now. Everything is made to order so it does take some time. Call in advance if you can’t wait. It’s one cook — the owner’s sister, & some helpers is what the cashier told me. I got: Curry Chicken Pita that comes w/lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions & sauce $ 5.45. I got it without onions & it was. It was tasty, the pita is not homemade so that’s a bummer, but I liked the curry chicken & everything else. Bolani $ 2.95 reg price, sign outside said .99c special price. I liked it! Small enough so I could finish it, it was steaming hot when I got it fresh off the pan. Ask for Tzatziki Sauce, Chutney, Hot sauce! It wasn’t offered until I asked about it. Asked for tap water & got a small cup. My total $ 5.45 + .51 tax = $ 5.96. Charged it. Other stuff they have: Kebab plates $ 8.95−9.95 Pita $ 5.45−6.45. Super is $ 1 more. Salads $ 6.95 Vegetarian $ 2.95−8.95 Sides .95−2.95 Desserts $ 2.75−3.95 Drinks $ 1.25−2.95 Fountain drinks, bottled water, chai(hot/iced), tea(hot), dogh, turkish coffee. Get a take-out menu & get a coupon in the back! One unisex bathroom. Hrs: M-W 11−11p Th-Sat 11−3AM Sun 11−10p

Very friendly service. It’s different that they have a pool table and ipod charging docks, not one but 3 of them. I tried the chicken pita, the chicken was yum, but wasn’t prepared for the special sauce. Next time will try the kebab. They have fresh items but if you’re in a rush you can call your order in. It’s still very new so cash only for the moment. I heard the cashier mention their atm/credit card machine will be up soon.
