Clint Stone

Unreliable, dishonest, and a major headache to do business with.
We did a major house remodel and unfortunately, my wife and architect picked Clint Stone for a fireplace surround and a stove hood.
we had 2 major issues with the 2 things we ordered from Ed/​Clint Stone
1)The stove hood was a real stone shell with a lightweight honeycomb shell that made a great looking stove that didn’t have all the weight of solid stone. This came from a supplier of Clint Stones in Peru. We put order in for this and waited. at one point, this was going to be critical path of our remodel. After calling and calling Ed for Status, he said that he never got a check so he didn’t order.(previously he said order was under way). Anyways, we rushed check down and Ed promised another 2 – 3 months. When that deadline approached and i called Ed to ask where was stove hood, he told me that it had been inadvertently shipped to a home show in Las Vegas. ??? i was in Vegas at the time and asked where as i would go see it. At this point, Ed broke down and said that he had lied, he never ordered the stove from Peru as his supplier wouldn’t fill his order any more. He acknowledged that this was a poor way to do business and said he didn’t know what to do. Our remodel just took another 2 months hit due to all of this dishonesty from Ed that could have been avoided on several occasions. On top of this, it took me several visits to Ed’s store to get my refund from my deposit for the stove hood that he never ordered.(sounds so fraudulant). On one occasion, he asked me to follow him to bank where he would give me payment at which point, he asked me to step up to teller with him and have teller show me that he does not have $ 3500 in the bank to pay me. After about 6 visits to his office and 1 year time, i finally got all but $ 1000 from him with a promise for more later. I encountered many many lies from him along the way and walked away after the partial check came in, promising myself no more headaches and disgusts that i got after talking with him on every occassion
2) he also delivered/​installed a fireplace surround for us in one room. Our fireplace had an issue with the screen and the stone needed to come off the wall so that the screen could be updated. Our contractor waited for Ed to come but finally just took the stone off the wall himself and re-​installed the stone. When he did this, he saw that the glue that Ed had used was flammable, which is not code for fireplace surrounds and ended up taking off all 4 pieces of stone and scraping off the flammable glue and putting on the right glue.

I normally do not write the reviews. But I have to do it this time. We met Ed at Clint Stone through online. We were searching for the stone fire place for our 5000sqft high end house in Mission San Jose area. First of all, I liked the guy’s honesty and quality of stone fire place which he imports from China. We were getting trust him more and we gave him more jobs including all the bathroom remodeling, kitchen, and even all the hardwood floor and marble floor for whole house. But it was only beginning of nightmare. I have been suffering from his worst quality of work and extreme delays on his works. Here are my reasons why I give him a lowest marking.
1. He used defected wood strips that need to be thrown away in rooms and living areas! Now, we cannot cut them out!
2. So much gaps between wood strips! He is covering the gaps with caulking but it does not look clean.
3. Wood flooring material is so bad quality. I see cracks and bubbles all over surface.
3. His caulking job is so messy. I can even do it better than him.
4. We are very tired of asking him for corrections!
5. He is so messy! He never cleans during construction!
6. He uses even broken pieces and put caulking material in broken gap spaces. So, poor looking!
I am about to cry because of how my dream home is turning out. I hope nobody suffers pain like what I had to go through. Please don’t hire this guy!

This is one of my few reviews that doesn’t rave about the establishment. I saw Ed with Clintstone at a home show, contacting him for a tile that he had at the show. He told me they had to ‘fix’ their account with the manufacturer but it shouldn’t take long. Five months later, their account still wasn’t fixed (I have a feeling they owed them money) and Ed told me to find the tile somewhere else. Today after working with Ed on another tile line for seven months, he hastily told me on the phone that it is best to order from someone else so I could get the same color batch. He wouldn’t order me an entire new batch. It is unfair being led on and then at the end leave searching for another resource, twice.
A day later… update. Three hours after I posted my review, he scrambled to find the tile I needed. I’ll change my rating from one star to three stars.
