History

Established in 1966.

Patients have been frequenting this dental practice since 1966. Dr. Gary Carlson was the original tenant of the up-​and-​coming Winchester Plaza business center. In the 1990s, Dr. Daniel Spate joined the location. In 2013 Dr. Jennifer New teamed up with Dr. Carlson. She officially took over for both Dr. Carlson and Dr. Spate in 2014 and continues to provide quality care to both old and new patients.

Dr. New prides herself in treating the patient and not just the tooth. She believes strongly in patient education. Dr. New and her staff use digital x-​rays and cameras to show the patient exactly what is going on in their mouth. She enjoys helping her patients understand what is causing their dental problems, how to treat them effectively, and how to prevent these issues from recurring. Dr. New will create a personalized treatment plan for you and she takes the time to answer all of your questions. By educating patients and stressing prevention, Dr. New strives to help patients maintain a lifetime of excellent oral health.

I feel like I am getting state of the art dental care every time I am seen by Dr. New. The staff are all extremely capable, friendly, and efficient; the tools and technology are up to date (I love the new Xrays); and Dr. New herself is both skilled and very enjoyable to interact with. She explains what she is about to do before she proceeds so you always know what exactly is going on. Patient care and comfort are very important to Dr. New and her staff. I recently had to have a slightly difficult filing repaired. Dr. New put me at ease and had me on my way in no time. I recently moved to Half Moon Bay but will continue to drive down to San Jose for appointments. It’s worth it!

I recently moved to the area and a friend referred me to Dr. New and I’m happy to say I’ve found my new dentist. She and her staff are all fantastic. Alicia answered all of my insurance and billing questions; Jonathan was kind and thorough with the x-​rays; and Whitney somehow managed to make a cleaning a comfortable experience. They are all thorough, friendly, and genuinely interested in providing quality care. Dr. New found a few issues that probably should be fixed and she explained my treatment options without pushing expensive, possibly unnecessary procedures. I highly recommend Dr. New.

Dr. New is amazing. I didn’t realize what I’d been missing from a dentist until Dr. New. I did not choose Dr. New, I inherited her since my former dentist, Dr. Gary Carlson was retiring. I trusted his judgment as to whom he would appoint to assume his practice. Besides, hunting for a dentist is like… pulling teeth? Heh heh. Anyway, good call Dr. Carlson!
Dr. New explains everything before you as a patient experiences it. «This will feel cold.» Or «This may hurt but only for a second» She literally preps you through the process of dental work and I appreciate her calm, gentle, cheerful and lighthearted demeanor. I have 3 kids in college and she’s so attuned to her patients that she remembers all the little intricacies of their lives. It’s amazing, I don’t know if she keeps a record and frankly, I don’t care, lol the fact that she possesses that kind of bedside manner (or dental chair manner?) is amazing. Her work is precise and thorough. She doesn’t rush and she’s a perfectionist. I have moved out of state but I will endeavor to keep her as my dentist at all costs. She’s that good.

I went in for a cleaning and was treated wonderful. Everyone is so nice and friendly. It feels like you are visiting an old friend. While there Dr New was cleaning 2 little girls teeth, I think for the first time.
Dr New was so sweet and gentle with them and at the same time being very thorough in telling them step by step what she was doing. I was very impressed how caring she was. I wish my Grandkids could see her but unfortunately they have different insurance.
Dr New and her staff are awesome and I highly recommend them.

Having my dental plan change I needed to find a new provider. I called in for a cleaning and they had an opening that day. Which was great since I was way over due. I made it in and the place was very clean and the staff was very friendly. Whitney was my hygienist and she was very friendly. She was very precise on cleaning my teeth and she was extremely nice. I don’t think I have ever been to the dentist where I had an enjoyable time. I am definitely coming back for Whitney. After my cleaning the dentist Jennifer came in to talk to me and introduce herself to me. She was very friendly as well and very efficient. I give 5 stars for great customer service and I would definitely recommend this dental place to my coworkers. I will be coming back for my cleaning in 6 months.
