Safe Place Storage

Absolutely one of the worst examples of corporate America. Before the property changed ownership they were the best, now they try to rob you every chance they get and when you catch them at it they act as if you’re the ass. This has been one of the most stressful experiences of my life not knowing if my stuff is safe or even still there. Since I have moved out of state they have taken advantage of the fact and have once gone so far as trying to auction off my belongings until I involved my lawyer. My only goal now is to get my stuff moved out ASAP and put this experience behind me.
If you value your sanity do not do business with this group!

I agree with many of the comments. The previous owners were very responsive, friendly and were willing to work with you, now it’s a corporation, it’s terrible.
I used to pay six months in advance and get one month free for doing that — so I paid for 12 and got 14 months storage.
The new owners said they would not follow that policy and immediately increased my rates — but obviously they do, if you read some of the other Unilocal reviews — for new customers. How about loyal ones who always paid one year in advance — that’s got to be better than chasing down money all the time.
I agree that Julie doesn’t respond and when she does, she’s rude.
They recently instigated a policy of the renter paying for insurance — you are charged $ 8 per month to insure (guess it depends on the size of your storage unity). i have an Umbrella policy and was told that I had been sent emails asking for that information — I checked spam and my emails — nothing. I never got anything from them except a rude email about having to prove my insurance with them in order not to pay the $ 8 per month.
Plus they’ve increased my rates twice in one year.
Now they’ve gone corporate, they don’t respond, they don’t call you back. I had to talk to Kelly the regional manager as well — who just fobbed me off and said Julie would call me back.
I think it’s terrible and someone from the company should pay attention — because the local and regional people don’t.
I am looking for a new, nicer storage facility now — people who appreciate their good customers.

Oh my god. Do NOT use these guys. No matter if they give you free space for a month or two… whatever. The time and money and aggravation it costs you in the long run is so not worth it. When it was owned by Safe Place Storage I would have said use them! We did fine. Now it has been purchased by Central Storage. Let’s start with this: incompetent staff. Not the first time I have had issues where I paid the full amount but they entered my payment incorrectly. Result? With no forewarning, they blocked our access. The day before we needed access to the contents of our storage space I was emailed my new bill. It showed the next month due and $ 100.00 due from last month. Which meant I had to log into my accounting program, then log into the bank to verify it cleared, then contact them. I called the storage place and spoke with a girl. Told her of the situation. She told me I just needed to bring over a copy of my check with the correct amount. Told her I would do so Monday since it was almost 5 at that time and I could not get it to her. But told her I did pay the correct amount. Her response: «Okay, no problem, just bring it over when you can.» What she failed to tell me is that our access was blocked, what she failed to do was check to see IF our access was blocked and remove it. Nor did she call her «manager.» The manager, when I spoke with her on my birthday (Happy Frickin’ birthday to me) said that the girl «should» have called her. Well, there you go. That would either be a.) an incompetent person was hired or b.) lack of training. Either way, the «new person» created problems for us. Then the manager assured me she would get me a revised invoice. None yet. We had prior issues where they said we didn’t pay and we did (again I would have to take my time to «prove» it to them) and we also had instances where I sent payment as SOON as I got the invoice and they didn’t process it until after the due date, thus feeling entitled to their late fees. DO NOT USE THEM.

Absolutely the worst storage place ever. Julie, the manager does not respond to calls, emails no matter how many times you call. Billing is a nightmare with them and manager cannot be reached to resolve it. You always get the call center that has no access to help you. Stay as far as you can from this place.

We recently rented a storage unit here and the service we got has been excellent. The manager, who took over 3 months ago, applied our free month to the second month so that we got the most value out of our promotion. This month was prorated because it was so late in the month. But there is only one level so no stairs to deal with. Doing business here has been good so far– and you do not have to sign up for auto pay you can pay at a kiosk out front or online!

Real Cold Blooded! I ask to move out 12÷2÷2014 and they said I didnt need to write a letter to move out. As I left they said I would only pay half the month and I would get refunded the other half later. Then the next day I got laid off from my job, unemployment was lagging four weeks on me and only paying me two. I got a new job and I check my bank account they have not gave my refund and they charged me for another whole month. I could have used the refund money for the holidays and I needed the money they took again (that they shouldnt) for the rent. Im late for the rent and I gave them a call, I explained to corporate and they said they will talk to their manager and then they call me back (they didnt). I then called again explaining my situation and the employee took my story to heart and said I should sue the company (but what proof do I have). I then called again told the story again, they said manager is not here we will call you back. Now I am late with rent now knowing if I will ever get my money and I am selling Personal goods that I shouldnt have too, to make up rent. DONT GO TO THIS STORAGE. im with Public Storage and they are the best in customer service and prices. get their special deals durring memorial day were I got a slammin deal for $ 54 for almost the same space. I have been an old customer for more than ten years they sold to this outfit safe place storage have gone directly to office eight times no one is ever in office have waited there for more than one half hour no one to take payment so send payment via bank guaranteed cheek they call me call me that unless I pay added money They will sell my goods. I have no right. No customer loyalty, no customer relations, do not care about customers have absolutely terrible attitude they have one one their selfish self serving method of extracting added fees blackmailing customer with threat of sale and no way to call corporate headquarters to complain, never uzse them there are plenty of others storage facilities.

This place was 5 stars up until they changed the owners. Packed my stuff and moved it out. New policies and charges are ridiculous. Nothing that I a greed or singed up for. I loved it when they were owned by previous owners.

Update: Safe Place Storage was bought by Central Self Storage. Same location, same contracts, same rates. Marisol is great! Professional, nice, smart. I’m not worried anymore since hearing about the change in ownership.

Since they have changed hands, they changed all their procedures without notice. They no longer send an invoice, they cancelled the gate-​opening code for one of my two units because I had two different codes (one unit was actually for my son, but under my name), and they no longer answer their local phone.
All this was done without notifying current customers. I had to pay this month on the phone via a robot. Since no invoice was sent, I forgot until the due date, which was on Sunday, so I waited to talk to someone at the central office. He had an attitude, and basically couldn’t tell me if they would charge a late fee since I was paying a day late.
I have had concern about the homeless people in the area. Some of them seen to have units, which is ok as long as they aren’t living in them. But there are hallways that can be entered by anyone who can get inside the gate. If they are really throwing a mattress over the gate to get in, they could sleep in the hallways, though I’ve never noticed any evidence of it.

I’ve been a customer here for over 10 years. They have recently sold the business and changed management to «Central Self Storage». I’ve had huge issues with my bill and general customer support ever since. The local office seems to never answer their phone (I’ve called 5 times in 2 days), which means you get forwarded to the corporate central office. Then they «message» the local manager to call you back, which has not happened. I’ve been charged lates fees incorrectly, because their website did not correctly pass through my credit card info. I hope it improves, as I really like the location.

Safe Place Storage is the Best! This location in particular is phenomenal. The staff is always very friendly and helpful, shout out to Miss Rita! :)
I have been a long time customer, have used both of their locations and have never had an issue. They also don’t go raising your rates like I hear some places will, yikes! I wouldn’t trust anywhere/​anyone else with my belongings. Thank you Safe Place Storage!

This was my first time renting a storage unit. I wasn’t optimistic about good customer service, but was completely proven wrong!

This is my first storage unit ever — sad that I’ve finally reach this American milestone. This review concerns the smaller rooms, which are accessed via indoor hallways and have a normal door rather than a garage door opening.
If you have experience with storage units, take my comments with a grain of salt. I was surprised that the small units are almost like cubicals, not enclosed rooms. Not that you can climb over the walls, but you could go to the top and look over and throw a ball into the next unit. The door is barely a door, more like a swinging panel of door size with a metal tab that you can lock closed.
All in all, Safe Place seems like a reasonably organized operation. I don’t regret that my stuff is there and I don’t really plan to move unless I win the lottery, find a wife with a huge house, etc.

I rented a storage closet at Safe Place Storage for about 6 months (I recently moved from San Jose). The prices were pretty good compared to other nearby storage places and I decided to give them a try based on some of the good Unilocal reviews.
The staff at this place are super friendly! They even gave me a free re-​usable shopping bag after signing up. They offer some deals if you prepay for multiple months — though I just went month to month.

I did my Unilocal research and found Safe Place Storage! I called other facilities but SPS was the cheapest storage facility in my area.
Prices are very reasonable and service is great. It was easy and quick to sign up. I paid for the first month, got the second month free and my third month was prorated. Also, when I first signed up, I received a goodie bag! Flash light, pens, reusable bag, etc. That was nice of them to do that.
Business hours are not posted on SPS’s website. So I had to call in first. Unfortunately, they do close earlier than most storage facilities.
An interesting feature that SPS has is the Los Gatos Creek Trail. It runs, or ends, right next to the facility.
