Teresa was a great help when I was in the market for some curtains. I was looking at some rather high-​end Hunter-​Douglas and was pleased when she took lots of time to help me without ever pushing me to buy. I didn’t buy that day, and instead returned at least twice more with more questions. I finally did buy the curtains and they were expertly installed, on time, and have been carefree ever since.
I didn’t think to write a review over that specific experience because quite frankly, I expect good service when I am buying. But I have twice since walked in off-​the-​street with issues I was having with my 2 year old blinds, and both times my issues were taken care of with no questions asked, and free of charge.
The first time was about a month ago; one of the plastic wands that you twirl to open and close the blinds broke. I walked in with the old wand, explained what happened, and Teresa handed me a new wand and wished me a good day.
The second occasion was just last week. I walked in with my blinds because the cording had somehow come out from it’s anchor in the bottom of the blind. Teresa took a look and told me her guy would call me Monday. On Monday someone from San Jose Window Shade Company called me and told me my Blinds were ready. When I picked them up, they were just handed over to me. No charge, and I was never even asked for my receipt. (Although Teresa likely remembers me from my previous purchase.)
If you are thinking about curtains/​blinds, I highly recommend this place. They are patient with us folks that aren’t quite sure what we want, but more importantly, they are helpful long after the purchase.

Awesome job! My shutters look great and the installation was perfect. Robert was very professional and helped me in the decision process. I received several bids and Costco was almost double the price with high pressure to sign right away. I highly recommend this company.

We have used this company several times over the past thirty years and have never been disappointed. Professional, well informed, this time we got our custom order sooner than promised, and the installer was excellent. We are once again very pleased with the result and would not hesitate to recommend them.

SJ WIndow Shade Co recently installed a shade for a large window in my living room and I am very pleased. Everyone I dealt with was professional and very helpful. They also accommodated a very quick turn around for me. I will definitely order from them in the future.

BEWARE of this business… San Jose Window Shade Company… I wondering how a company like this stays in business…
The lady that runs the place is arrogant and rude, to say the least. My wife and I had been in their store a few time before and got a similar response, but wrote it off to her having a bad day. Well, we have come to the conclusion everyday is a bad day for her. We’ll never return to this store again.
An internal part failed on our Hunter-​Douglas (HD) mini-​blinds (supposed to be covered under the HD’s lifetime warranty). She rudely informed me that the needed part was no longer available. I asked here how about the life-​time warranty and she rudely demanded that I show her my receipt and as it had been quite a while since we purchased them, for their very store, so I did not have it anymore (my mistake). She flippantly shrugged her shoulders. Nice way to treat a return customer…
The warranty would have been thru DH, nothing out of her pocket, they would have gotten paid through HD warranty or for that matter I would have paid the repair cost. I just wanted my mini-​blind functioning again.
I subsequently contacted HD and they referred me to a very nice and helpful shop owner Cleaners to your Door on Camden Ave in San Jose. I hope this review is helpful…

Robert and Teresa did an amazing job helping me window dress my new house.
Since I am clueless about blinds and shades, Teresa was very patient to help me understand all kinds of choices and the dos and don’ts, and narrow down to a very manageable amount of key choices. Robert and his team installed the shades meticulously and came back a couple of times to get all the tiny details right (the details that I am obliviously about).
The overall effect came out better than I could have imagined. I might be able to get window treatments for cheaper from online or places like Costco. But the value they provide with their design and installation expertise is priceless. Not to mention that they are such nice people and made the whole experience fun and enjoyable.

We have used Robert and his services in the past and just recently went back to him for a new set of shutters. He is great to work with, professional and always delivers on time. Looking forward to working with him and his company in the future.

It was a great experience from the beginning. I walked into their showroom and Terisa advised me expertly. She asked probing questions in order to find the perfect product for us! She also recommended a product for our garden window in the kitchen. It looks great!
At a other company I was told there was nothing for that application .
At that showroom I was also falsely informed that we would need to split our larger shade in two for our picture window. that would have looked goofy.
Robert came to our house advised us on color and product.
He came with loads of sample folders with almost endless choices.
And now that is installed 3 weeks after we placed the order it really enhances the look of our house. It gives it a grown up look.
I liked having someone like Robert sharing his expertise on what may work best. He was spot on.
I first went to 2 other companies rated higher on Unilocal but got little help over the phone or in the showroom…
The pricing was almost exactly the same as the two companies that showed little interest in helping me out…

I first used this company for my office building in the Rose Garden to install wood blinds about 10 years ago. Everything was done with excellence back then, so when I began a remodel on my home this year (2013), I went right back to them without hesitation, this time for plantation shutters for the house. Once again, I was so impressed with their customer service, their attention to detail, communication and product. Both Teresa and Robert are GREAT just as they were 10 years ago. Honestly, of all the contractors who have worked on my house, this company has been– by far– the most professional, reliable, honest and reasonable price-​wise. Their customer service and communication is simply top notch. I am truly a perfectionist and both Robert and Teresa helped me brainstorm and make the absolute best decisions for my home. The remodeling has been so difficult and stressful to the point of tears several times. I have to say, San Jose Window Shade has provided the top-​of-​the-​line customer service and precision in all that they do: color, measurements, style and product. I recommend them most highly to anyone who has high standards and expects the very best in others.

I wanted to add UV protection to my windows to prevent the floors, furniture, and artwork from fading so I did some shopping around. I then got a recommendation for San Jose Window Shade Company from a neighbor after I asked my community’s group message board. It turns out they were going to charge far less for the same service and product. I’ve been bitten by the «you get what you pay for» bug before, so I was a little hesitant, but they came through.
The only ding is that it took them almost three weeks from the deposit until installation, but the film installer, Jim, was recovering from an injury and was thoughtful with the rescheduling, so it wasn’t too much of a problem. The installation took about seven hours for two loft windows (20 ft. up) with a total of ten panes.

Excellent customer service. They came to the house with a good selection of samples, took measurements, delivered, and installed my shades for a reasonable price. Then later on when the cord pulled right out of one set of shades due to the weght, they ended up replacing with shades using a differnet kind of open/​close system for no charge

I have been impressed with their service over the years and have recommended them to friends with success. Teresa is superb at what she does and the repairman they have is terrific and their prices reasonable. The repairman came out today and brought me a replacement part for different a shade that I had casually mentioned had a problem and didn’t charge me — that’s good service!

I tried to give this independent business owner a chance, but my last phone call will in fact be my last phone call. All I needed was drape gliders and/​or clips for some pleated drapes, so I went into the store to buy some. To my surprise they told me gliders are not replaceable! WTF? I dealt with this salesperson once before, and I looked at him straight in the eyes. I have been blessed with a keen ability to spot a liar. He was totally giving me a line when he said I will have to replace the entire curtain rod. He said that it will require a visit, and a new rod is the only remedy. I didn’t go for it because I was raised with a very handy father. I went to OSH and Home Depot, but they also didnt sell them. They do sell them on EBay. I ended up for time sake finding an awesome drape guy on Craigslist who is licensed. He actually came out the same day. He was even trying to convince me to do it myself, but due to time, and out of town visitors I asked him to do the job. He was shocked to hear that I was trying to be up-​sold like that. Our drape guy was super helpful and friendly. He even assisted me in putting my mom’s walker together when he saw me struggling. I feel good that I still ended up helping an independent business owner. . Just not this business.

We went to their store and they were quite helpful there. We placed and order and they told us that once they had placed the order with Hunter Douglas they would call us and let us know ETA etc. However, the very next day we called and asked if we could cancel our order (their charges were more than 20% higher than what we could get elsewhere). They said they would call us in a few minutes but they did not. We would call them and they would just not return calls. Eventually, we sent them an email saying we were going to contest their charge with our credit card company; that this point they responded saying they were going to refund the charge. However, the refund was about 10% less than the amount they had charged.
SO: if you walk into their store they will seem helpful and competent. But do not expect good service after that…

I have a type of plantation shutter that has little «brackets» on the backs. We had quite a few of these come off over the years, and the previous owner of our home had suggested them. The person who came out was just wonderful. He did such a nice job, and really went out of his way to find a couple of parts that are no longer manufactured for our shades. He had to look in the van, but was able to find some. I would use them again, anytime.

I called San Jose Window Shade Company to get my 9-​year-​old Hunter Douglas honeycomb window shades repaired. Two shades were jammed and two others had broken strings and needed to be re-​strung.
Jeff, the repairman, came on time the next day and was very competent. He had to replace 4 of the plastic parts at the top of the shade that grip the strings in addition to doing the re-​stringing. He was done in about an hour and also replaced some «tassle» cords (the part of the cord that hangs down from the strings of the actual shade) at no charge.
The service was great, but at $ 270, I thought the price a bit steep. It seems they charge by the work done, not by how long it takes.

DO NOT use SJ Window Shade Comapny! My experience with them left me wondering how a company like this stays in business.
My initial experience with them was great– they were very helpful in trying to help me figure out the best kind of treatments for my odd-​sized windows and timely in giving me a quote. After that, everything went downhill…
After I was ready to go ahead with the window treatments, I couldn’t get these to respond to my calls. I left countless messages, and after awhile it became clear to me that they weren’t going to call me back. I felt like they were purposely avoiding me. I don’t understand how I small business can get away with ignoring customers like that.
If you’re looking for reliability and excellent customer service, you won’t find it with SJ Window Shade Company– I ended up going to Custom Creations in San Carlos and they were professional and created beautiful roman shades for me. Check them out instead:

Went today with a new blind that I damaged during unpackaging — they fixed it and refused to let me pay!
Where can you find better service than that?

i’m a bit delayed with my update but, have to say this place is the real deal. they turned our order around right quick. the quote for repair was extremely reasonable, they restrung the shade and we’re back in business.
will definitely return for our valance in the near future. check ‘em out!
