So far the customer service sucks. I feel like everyone is being rude to me. Very disappointing. I’m gonna give two stars though because the last person who helped me in the branch was polite and apologetic for the mistakes that had already happen. Hopefully my experience gets better

«Building Relationships for Life» That’s the motto for Santa Clara County Federal Credit Union and it sounds pretty good if you ask me. The truth is really more like «We GOT YOUR MONEY, WHAT DO WE CARE!»
Back in May of 2015, I was attempting to fuel up at an Arco gas station. At Arco you can only use cash or a debit card. I went to the pay island and started my transaction. There was a problem with the pay island and I had to cancel the transaction and start again. I finished my business and left the station.
Low and behold I received my bank statement and noticed two charges from Arco on the same day. Well I contacted the bank and attempted to find out what happened. Needleless to say it was determined that there was an error at Arco; both charges were a minute apart from each other. I filled out the appropriate papers with my bank explaining what had happened on that day and about a week later one of the charges was credit back to me. Great, that’s what I want from my bank, service and a helping hand; you know building that relationship for life.
About a week later I received a letter confirming everything. I’m happy and I think the matter is closed. Two weeks later, I notice that the money credited back to me was taken back out of my account. Hmmmmmmmm, I call the bank to find out what was going on. All I am told is that the merchant (Arco) is disputing it, there is nothing more that can be done and sorry you will have to deal with the merchant. So I again explain everything that happened that day, I even provide the bank information on how and where they can obtain the evidence from Arco which will support everything I said. Arco holds the video evidence of the transaction at the pump along with the computer read out for the transaction. The bank refuses to help me obtain the information from Arco which would remedy the situation. The bank tells me that it is my problem. (Building relationships for life)
So I attempt to do all the leg work for my bank on the matter, needless to say Arco will not provide me with any of the information for that day. After four attempts to get the info which proves the money is owed back to me, I again seek my banks help in the matter. I figure they will be able to demand the info from Arco so they can determine what happened on that day. They should be able to request the computer printout and the video evidence. My bank simply tells me, there is nothing they can do, «Sorry.»
That’s it? I have been a member of this bank for 17 years and I am told to deal with it myself, really how about building that relationship for life, OH! I see you already have my money so what do you care. Thanks for the relationship Santa Clara County Federal Credit Union, I will be ending it now after 17 years.

Let me begin by saying I am a first-​rate cynic about anything to do with financial institutions. But I went into the County Federal branch downtown on Halloween, a Friday afternoon, hoping to open an account to get a personal loan and pay off my high-​interest credit cards. I was braced for more rejection and humiliation at the hands of the sadists who work at banks and credit card companies.
Here’s what happened instead:
* Priscilla Muniz, dressed in her Halloween costume as a baby – complete with pacifier – efficiently helped me open a brand new account after verifying I met their eligibility requirements. Since I work at San Jose State the $ 5 application fee was waived.
* She led me to another desk where over the phone I applied for a personal loan. Again, this process was easy and efficient.
* As promised, Laura Lydon, the loan officer, called my cell phone that afternoon to let me know the verdict on my loan application. This was two hours after I’d applied. I had been approved for a loan at 7.9% interest. This would come in handy to pay off my 26% interest credit cards! The $ 500 monthly payments will be automatically deducted from my bank account each month.
* On Saturday morning, since the downtown branch was closed, I drove to County Federal’s Campbell office; there I presented my i.d. and walked out with a check for $ 25,000! There were no fees for the loan or cashier’s check.
That money was immediately deposited in my bank account and this morning – like a dream come true – I paid off all my credit card debt. THANK YOU COUNTY FEDERAL!

Do yourself a favor do not ever to a refinance with them run far away from them. I am a member and they wanted 800.00 non Nonrefundable dollars upfront even before doing the loan. I have been a member for a least 2 years and I have never had a bank or any other place want 800.00 upfront.
I went to cash call I got a rate of 3.5 which was lower than their 4.2. With cash call I had nothing to pay either, everything was rolled into the loan. Due to this I plan on closing all my accounts with them.

3 Stars because its really convenient for me especially when i am in downtown san jose. i have never been inside but i’ll just rate it because they have their atm outside.

Do not buy a new car that is not of the model year (new car not registered) this credit union will not finance a car that is not of the same year they will tell you it is used even though it has never been registered.(ca law states a car is new till it is registered) never a problem other places

I’m afraid I have to downgrade my review.
Another CU I belong to will give auto loans with 3 months deferred payment and skip a pay for free. SCCFCU charges for skip-​a-​pay and doesn’t offer anything else other than a conversation with the collections department. If you want 84 months on the auto loan, you have to borrow $ 30k. No option if you want a cheaper car and lower monthly payment for a lower DTI, which is a good thing if you want to buy a house or refinance in the near future. Many places offer 1.99% auto loans, so I went elsewhere for my 1.99% deal.
On the deposit side, hold time for cash deposits are ridiculous. It should be instant at the CU for any amount above $ 200 and next day if I do it elsewhere. At BofA, I put in $ 1k of cash and get immediate credit at the ATM. The incentives to put more deposits here are weak even compared to the big banks. This place should be rebating ATM fees charged by other banks. Sometimes I do travel outside of Santa Clara county. Bill pay is not free if you forget to initiate one every quarter. At least plain checking is truly free, but this is fairly common elsewhere. I expect fees from big banks, not from a credit union.
County employees have been struggling for the past couple of years due to cuts. I think they could have done more during the rough times from 2008 – 2012. Even now, underwriting is too tough for some co-​workers. I don’t expect the CU to grant $ 500,000 mortgages to a county employee barely scraping by due to furloughs, but how about just $ 500-​$ 1k for an emergency loan with no credit check? Almost all county employees are immune from getting canned, so it’s not that big of a leap in underwriting as it may seem. Another institution provides emergency loans to county employees with no credit check rather than the credit union. It would make more sense if it was the employee credit union.

Simply the best option for banking. I back with four financial institutions and the credit union is the best. Service is top notch. They treat you like a valued customer and know your name. That is a real plus these days.

It was a very disappointing experience.
I walked in wanting to know more about an account and the first person to greet me, told me the options, didn’t ask what I was looking for, right away took my drivers license and information and decided to send me over to a banker. Then, right as I was about to go the banker has a walk in and decides to take them first. Talk about impressions.
As I waited, I noted that the banker had a very bad tendency to talk really fast, speed through his speech and plaster his eyes only on the computer screen. He answered my questions, but with a slight sneer in his voice and I wasn’t feeling the customer service I was getting. I didn’t have cash on me for the initital deposit because many banks don’t require to, but he sounded offended that I would ever thought not to have money on me. Told me I couldn’t open the account and to come back when I brought the money.
So many things wrong and with this initial visit, I wasn’t treated well. Everything was very rushed and right away, I was to sign paper work on the spot claiming whether or not I wanted their services. There wasn’t any customer service with the banker because he was so involved with himself and wasn’t concerned about the client. The conversation wasn’t about what I wanted or needed or the best he could provide, but rather here: you get this account, comes with this, give me give me your money. I left frustrated because I felt that especially a private, credit union would have offered more sincere services. But I guess when you’re private, don’t charge to many fees, it gives you a right to act like a douche.

Never takes long, there is never a crowd. Great place for fast excellent service.

They are great for loans, unfortunately I decided to get a credit card and a bank account through them. Their website is TERRIBLE. If you forget your password you pretty much have to go in and see them to get it reset (ridiculous), not to mention how hard it is to use. They want hard copy paperwork for EVERYTHING, like adding a new card to pay your bills with. Sorry, SCCFCU, this is WHY you’re not my only bank.
If you have a loan with them, get your credit card somewhere ELSE! I got an emergency credit card through them, and they shut it off because of a late payment on my loan. I get paid different days every month, so I’m sometimes a few days late on my payment. If you have an emergency that you need your credit card for then I would NOT count on being able to use it.
They also charge 15 $ if you want to make a payment using a card from a different bank.
I’ll be canceling my accounts here and switching to another credit union.
Their face-​to-​face customer service is good, unfortunately all the crap you have to go through is so ridiculous that I can’t give up my bigger bank for them. Unfortunate.

I would not recommend anybody to have loan with them. I have taken a car load as student and they are not at all very clear… so many hidden fee. its worst than ever…
Manger of the branch is not at all friendly and helping.
Please be careful, if you are thinking to have load with them.

Quick service and the staff is extremely friendly. I like how they can answer any question I have with out confusing me to the point where I just agree to have have them stop talking.
They just did a little bit of remodeling which looks really good”)

I’m glad they have a location closer to school. They seem to find the perfect areas to have their bank locations for me. This is a great bank/​credit union. I’ve been a member since I was a teen and they have always been good to me. This location is prime for students and for folks like me who have to do things all on their lunch hour: deposit a check and pick up lunch. The area is filled with great nearby eateries. Love the location, love the staff and love their products/​services.

When my husband became a County employee way back in the 80s, we got our first new car loan through SCCFCU on First Street and opened a savings account too. We’ve been with them ever since. I work at SJSU and just have to walk across the street to do business with them now. It’s so convenient and quick (and they play great music too), never a line either. The staff at the City Centre Branch know me now and even wave when I walk by the window on my way to lunch!

since $management aint’ my forte, i frequently use the customer service here and all the clerks pretty much know me by name, are very friendly and never seem to stop smiling. that rox. I give the services beyond this physical establishment a plus due to the various options they give to «hole in the pocket» kinda people like me. So, if anyone from county fed is reading this: THNX!

I just recently opened an account here and the customer service was excellent. The account specialist was very patient with me and friendly. After my second visit they treated me like an old friend. The tellers are very knowledgeable and quick. I almost never have to worry about a long line here (unlike previous banks I’ve been to).

Being young and low on funds it is great to have an excellent credit union on my side…
I have been a member with the Santa Clara County Federal Credit Union for two years. They had only 2 locations in San Jose– one on N 1^st St and one on the south side… but they recently opened one right across the street from Martin Luther King library which is super convenient– especially for students and City of San Jose employees.
And they have recently decided to allow San Jose State Students to open an account with them for free! Not only that but they are open on weekdays until 5:30 and until 6:00 on Fridays!
when I went there they had excellent customer service! The teller was younger and very knowledgeable about the services the bank offered and he set me up with the «mortgage guy» or whatever their proper title is. His name was Michael Mann. It was like 5:17 and they were closing within the next few minutes. He did not Rush me at all. he was very helpful. My credit score is very low these days and I’m attempting to refinance– he was very nice and didn’t look down on me after seeing my credit score. He gave me some information and fliers to give to my friends.
He called me later on in the week to make sure I didn’t have any further questions.
Excellent service– excellent location.
And by the way if you have an account with them you are able to use the ATMs in 7 – 11 for free!!!
