New ownership for this place. Don’t like it and last time to eat!!!
I have always come here and now the new owner. Portion is tooooo expensive for a medium plate. Old owner portion is big and generous which is very affordable and cheap. Don’t like their soup base. Shabu shabu in mountain view is way cheaper than this, so are many places in San Francisco. Big portion and cheap.

I was so upset when I found that Shaburi closed down so suddenly! It was my favorite Shabu place especially because they offered the Pork Bone broth that no other Shabu place I know of, offers. This was the best shabu place especially because their veggie plates were perfect. I hope they are just relocating because I’m going to miss watching MXC on the TV’s while enjoying my delicious Shabu that always burned my tongue every time I went… Farewell Shaburi =’(i’m depressed now

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE contact me somehow and give me your recipe for house spicy and the ponzu sauce! I’m so depressed that shaburi is gone and have travelled all over the bay to find similar taste but no luck :(So sad ^

Fun place to go for shabu shabu. Staff is pleasant and the Kobe beef with the spicy broth is very good.

Why did you close??? It better be cuz your remodelling or you are moving to a different location!!!

Came here Sunday night with my fiancé. We had walked by a couple weeks ago and checked out their menu. Their prices are very affordable and we made a mental note to come back and give it a try.
First of all, when we walked in around 7:30pm we were not greeted at all. I understand when servers are busy they might not be able to seat us right away. They had several empty tables and bar seats open but were not slammed. What I don’t appreciate is that the older waitress and just kept looking at us standing at the door but never acknowledged us. I would have appreciated a «Hi, we’ll be right with you» but no… NOTHING. We literally stood there for 10 minutes while other customers who were already seated just stared at us.
We finally get seated and I asked for iced water and an Asahi. The water came in a random cup (like an old glass my grandmother kept from a gift set 10 years ago) and it was room temp with no ice.
The menu, like others have said, states that broth is extra. Only their «seaweed water» is free. We ordered ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ pork bone and house spicy. I have to give it to them, it was pretty tasty. I ordered the large kobe with plate B (more veggies). I asked if I could swap out the udon noodles for ramen noodles and they said yes, but it’d be an add’l 2.99 charge. I said fine.
What really irritated me was when all our food came (service is extremely slow) the pot took 10 minutes to heat up and boil. Maybe they need to turn on the heating plates sooner? Maybe the broth in the pots were not heated up prior? We literally just sat there and waited while our beef turned room temp (makes it harder to pick up with chopsticks bc they stick together when no longer frozen/​cold). AND the BIGGEST UPSET … when I asked for green onions the older waitress scanned the restaurant and said «we’re all out». WHAT THE F… it was 7:30pm on a SUNDAY and you’re not even slammed with customers. WHY THE F did you run out of green onions? She wasn’t even apologetic. I’m sorry but what is shabu without green onions???
I hated the service, I hated the fact that they didn’t have green onions, I hated the waitress’ attitude. I do not think I will every come back. The food was fine (meat was super thin) and what is appealing is the price but still… this place is not professional.

No wait for us group of 4 about 8pm on a Friday night. Small place. This place is cheaper compared to other Shabu places. I got the spicy miso broth with large portion of Kobe beef and Vegetable A. The portion was good enough for me, broth wasn’t that spicy and salty, good portion of vegetable and meat. The House spicy broth was more flavorful and salty. Service was ok. The lady asked everyone except me if I wanted water refill… really? I mean She saw me come back to my seat when she was refilling water.

If you don’t mind «slow service» or «no service’ dining, please go for it. The beef and vegetables are ok but not impressed. We ordered Kobe beef with miso spicy, house spicy soup. They charge you extra on soup but not other places. It was a Sat. Lunch, and there was only one waitress. Unless you asked for her, otherwise you won’t get any service at all. Overall, the food was ok. I don’t like they charged extra for soup. There are many other hot pots in Bay Area. This is the place you may pass.

This place is cheap for Shabu ($ 15 for a regular) but there has to be a catch right?! Their meat is definitely the most thinnest cut ones that I’ve seen thus far. I’m more of a vege fan so this didn’t really bother me.
Spicy miso is a great broth. Pork bone is also very calming and flavorful. I haven’t tried other ones but I heard that house spicy could be good too.
Worth a visit if you are feeling chilly want want cheap shabu! Oh, also customer service here isn’t that bad!

I would rate this Shabu joint at 3.5 stars.
This is a no frills shabu shabu restaurant. It is decent but lacks anything special.
I ordered the water with seaweed, plate set B ($ 0.99 extra), and a large wagyu style beef. It appears that they give you a large amount of meat for the price but it is the thinnest meat you ever had. They give a large amount of napa compared to other places but the total amount of food was lacking.
I ate everything that was given to me and I walked away hungry.
3.5÷5 I would come again if I wanted bare bones shabu without a wait.

First things first, I’m definitely a hot pot/​shabu shabu fan. Admittedly though, this wasn’t my first option when coming here for lunch as I had been planning on going somewhere else close to here instead. But there’s a LOT of food options in Japantown and, honestly, none that merit any type of waiting in line. Shaburi just happened to be pretty empty… and after coming here, that surprised me a lot (ok, It probably didn’t help that it was already ridiculously hot outside).
With all that said, Shaburi is definitely subtle underrated for sure! The lunch menu is REALLY REALLY cheap for the amount of food you get. $ 8.99 for a regular sized portion of kobe beef and a sizeable portion of vegetables? Perfect, because given my smaller stomach I can barely eat all that much anyways. You can always get extras anyways and they don’t charge an arm and a leg for them either. And yes, you get your own pot to cook as you please.
Service was pretty good… but to be fair, there was only like 8 – 10 people in the restaurant. If you can’t get that right, I don’t know what to say. Either way, was very happy after coming here. I still maintain that, like all the other places in Japantown, it’s not worth waiting in line for. But it is definitely a good option for sure!

This place is the real deal.
Sit at the bar, bring some friends, and enjoy an authentic, original, and interactive experience at an extremely reasonable price.
Don’t be an idiot — order correctly. Please see my experienced eater’s guide for ordering below:
–Spicy Miso
–Kobe Beef (large for more beef, unless you’re on a budget)
–Vegetable plate that you prefer (substitute out a vege you don’t like with more of a vege from
the same plate, but you can’t swap veges between the plates) — if you get enoki mushrooms,
split them up by hand before putting them in the soup
–Side order a raw egg
–Side order extra udon noodles or ramen noodles (unless you’re on a budget)
Be sure to put the vegetables in to soak before you put the meat in. Also dump so chili powder, chili oil, and green onions in, to your taste of course. When putting the meat in, don’t do the bit by bit thing, put it all in at once, but be sure to break it apart when putting it in so it doesn’t clump together. As soon as you put the meat in, reach behind the hot pot and turn it off, this will make sure the meat gets cooked perfectly. While the meat is cooking, crack the raw egg in there and stir around to make sure all the goodies get coated with the egg.
You may enjoy the rice as an appetizer with the delicious dipping sauces (creamy peanut sauce and citrusy-​soy ponzu sauce). Don’t be shy, you can get your free refill of rice and sauces, just be sure and ask!
What I described would be perfect for a meal shared by two, or a meal for one with over a meal’s worth of leftovers. Not everything I described is the traditional way of doing hot pot, but it is the best in my humble opinon :-D

I wuv u shabu bowl. Oh how delicious the Kobe angus beef looks sliding around in the spicy broth. Cook it just enough the toss it into the sesame peanut sauce then scoop rice and the nom nom nom sounds will escape your pleased tongue.
I always say yes to this option for lunch they have a good special $ 10.99 for a large! The veggies are yummy and accommodate your meal nicely.

When it comes to Shabu Shabu in South Bay, the default places I usually go to are either Shabuway or One Pot at Cupertino. Did some research on Unilocal and found Shaburi in Japantown. Japantown? Sounds good to me!
Came here with two other friends on a Friday night at around 8. The place was only around 70% full. There would be such a long line already if it’s One Pot. Interior design of this place looks pretty old. Japanese comedy show was playing on TV, I guess that’s kind of authentic?
We were seated at the bar table, and basically each person gets his/​her own pot. You can choose one or two (half and half) soup base, meat plate (beef/​lamb/​pork, small/​large) and Vege plate (two options with different price points).
Pork Bone /​Spicy Miso soup: B-​.
Not impressed. I would have never guessed the pork bone soup was indeed pork bone, it was just some watered-​down milky kind of soup with almost no taste. Spicy Miso, it wasn’t spicy at all, not to mention the lack of miso taste.
Kobe Beef (large): B+.
Appearance looked pretty amazing — lots of unevenly distributed fat and thinly sliced. But for some reasons it did not taste as good as I imagined. I guess it was not as fresh as it looked, so it just tasted like regular slices of beef. It’s not bad though. The portion was okay as a large dish order.
Lamb (large, added as a side): B.
Also thinly sliced, but meat quality was again just okay. In other shabu places, the taste of lamb meat usually stood out strongly and that’s what I like about lamb. But the taste was rather weak here.
Vege: B+.
Nothing special, just cabbage, mushroom, udon, carrot, etc. The portion was small though.
We ordered 4 beers total, and each person ended up paying $ 35 — which, in my opinion, was on the expensive side given the quality of the food there. I think I will just play on the safe side in the future and stay with the other more popular Shabu places.

I got the half pork bone and half spicy miso. I was hesitant to get the spicy miso, but our friend highly recommended it. I tried it because I can always use more of the pork bone broth if needed.
We sat at the bar. It wasn’t packed at all. But then again it was a Sunday night and right after the Super Bowl 49. We went out to celebrate the Seahawks loss!
Along with my half half broth, I ordered the kobe and Plate 1 for veggies. If you are a meat lover, just upgrade it to large. The plate 1 veggies has enoki, tofu, napa cabbage, another type of mushroom, carrots, and udon and clear noodles. The Plate 2 has asparagus and broccoli with all the other fixings similar to plate 1.
The broths were good. It wasn’t too salty, but my body definitely craved water during and after. The combo also came with rice and dipping sauces. I will definitely come back here. It’s reasonably priced. Customer service is up to par, and food is absolutely good.
Btw, I was surprised at how the kobe stayed soft even after they’ve been bathed for a long time in the soup. I mistakenly forgot that I had meat in the broth. More reason to use that strainer ladle spoon next time.

I like this place because everytime I am craving shabu, there is never a wait here and I get seated right away.
The food is decently priced here and it hits the spot when the weather is cold.
It’s not all you can eat shabu but with the price of a little under $ 16-​$ 18 a person, you can get super full from the plate of meat, veggies and rice bowl.

We’ve been here a few times now and always have a great experience.
The women who staff the counter are quick, friendly, and attentive, promptly bringing the items you order and keeping a strong eye on your boiling soup pot.
There’s usually space at the bar each time we come in and though I wish their soup were less veggie focused, I’m always pleased with what I order, the seafood broth. (which by the by, isn’t soy based :)
We’ll keep coming back and even though it does get a bit muggy in here, it’s definitely a plus for me on cold nights: D

I love their Spicy Miso broth. It’s not too spicy nor is it bland. I also love how their shabu deal is generally cheap in comparison to other Shabu restaurants I’ve been to.
I’ve been going here for a while now and noticed how every time I ate here, I’d always get great service by every waiter/​waitress. They always smile and make sure that your food is prepared to your liking.

CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP. This is the only place for shabu in japantown so there’s no competition. But if you’ve experienced other shabu places, this restaurant doesn’t even come close to others.
They only have 3 tables and the rest of the seating is bar style. Service is fast and their selection is decent. Their meat quality? I’ve had better Kobe beef and bigger plates for the amount they charge. I can’t complain about their veggie plate, which comes with an abundant of different things — noodles, mushrooms, tofu, cabbage etc. Their ponzu and sesame sauce is not up to par only because I like the ponzu sauce thick. What was odd is that none of their green onion containers were full.
Save yourself the disaster and go to Saratoga Ave for Shabuway, at least there you’ll have better meat quality and more seating. Also, their ponzu sauce is thicker.

Whenever it rains, I begin to feign for hot pot. I’m sure most of you do too, so then next comes the conundrum of finding which hot pot to go to. This is my place to go if I’m around downtown. It’s located in Japan town, which isn’t far, and the lunch prices are pretty decent.
They have a good selection of meats and vegetables. I do think Shabuway is a little better in terms of quality and portions but it’s just too far when you’re limited on time. The spicy miso broth isn’t very spicy, but I’m going to be generous because I frequently visit this place; therefore, I will give it four stars.
