Today was my second time going to Strickly Stylez for dreadlocks maintenence by D’Mara. When I came in, she had the assistant wash my hair. I recently cut all my hair back in Feb so I still have baby twists going on. By the time my wash was over, damn near all the twists were already out (last two rows were completely out since the back is short). I’m used to the comb method of twisting and from the last time I got it done here, I was okay with how she twists. Not this time! By the time I came from under the dryer, all my ends were still loose– you couldn’t tell they were even twists. When I asked her if she was going to twist the ends, she asked me what I meant as if looking at my hair you couldn’t tell. She attempted to retwist a few and put me under the dryer again while she tended to another client. When I got from under the dryer, she tried to tell me that’s how it looks from the original hair and she twisted the new growth. Then told me if I want the ends twisted I need to get the twists all retwisted. That’s what I thought I was there for! The wash took out all the form of the twist and not to mentioned she even twisted two twists together. I went home and felt around and was so upset! Some of them were the size f 3 twists put together. So disappointing! So now I’m taking a comb and retwisting my ends because apparently that didn’t come with my «dreadlock maintenance».

Made an online appointment on their Web site with Darlene McCline for a hair trim. Received several emails from them in response: one appointment reminder, two «appointment accepted». I arrived 15 minutes early, waited 30 additional minutes — No Darlene, no hair trim. Wow! However, I did hear one stylist say, ‘*all* of my clients are jerks’. #Classy.

Darlene always whips my hair into shape! She’s so nice and definitely knows what she is doing. Loving this location! There is plenty of parking and it just looks nice and professionally inside. If you’re looking for a new salon or stylist I definitely recommend Darlene at Strictly Styles, you will not be disappointed.

The staff was friendly and professional! Plenty of FREE parking near by and pretty much all of the stylists are great at what they do. Sharon worked wonders with my damaged and super thick natural hair. I was looking for a stylist and I’ve found her!

Strictly Styles hands down is one of the best places to get your hair done in the bay area! They do it all, from extensions, weaves, relaxers, cuts to color etc… I have been coming here for over four years and have had nothing but the best experiences. I go to Sara, she is so gracious and does top notch work. All the stylists there, Capri, Sara, Rachel, Sharon, D’Mara…etc.(apologies for forgetting anyone or misspellings) are professional and provide a service that is second to none. No matter who you go and see, you will not be disappointed.

I enjoy seeing all the smiling faces of the stylists here and they comforting personalities. My hair stylist is the best for my type of hair. I have been working with her since I move to San Jose so way over 20 years now. She kind, gentle on my scalp and as I mentioned before know how to treat my texture of hair. I can only recommend her but based on the years of experience all the ladies at this shop have you cannot go wrong! I highly recommend you stopping by if you haven’t already done so. Some of the best pressing and straightening is done right here. Not only do I get my hair done in a timely fashion it looks amazing and it last for more than 2 weeks. I love Rachel, she’s one of the best

I made an appointment for Makeup application as stated on their online service appointment; however, they do not offer makeup at all. Just like the reviewer below– businesses should not list any services they do not offer. It also made me confused how she approved my appointment when it said Makeup Application when she doesn’t do makeup? She seemed pretty nice though, if I’m in that neighborhood, may give it a shot.

Unfriendly staff. I didn’t have an appointment, but their page says walk-​ins are welcome. Tip to hair salon service providers: Please don’t mention you accept walk-​ins if you can’t accomodate.

I’ve had my hair done by Capri since I was a little girl. I love that she’s expanded so much, but still gives good customer service, quality hair care, and ALL within a timely manner! Now, I’m so blessed she’s around to do my little one’s hair. She managed to tame her mane, and please a diva without ONE single tear. I think I’ll have to budget monthly braids into our household economics — it’s worth it for my own sanity!
Parking was a bit tricky for me, but we got in and out of the shop within 1.5 hours, so the 2 hour street parking worked out. I highly recommend Strictly Styles: it’s hard to find a good place where you can trust someone with your hair. Not only do I trust the work I get done here, I love the customer service Pri gives!

I am so flippin happy. Rachel did an amazing job. Out of the blue I decided I was going to cut all of my hair off. I had some pictures I had found and brought them into Rachel. Off the bat I felt comfortable with her, so I kind of have her free range to do what she wanted. I appreciate that, because I’m not a hairstylist and I needed someone to have a vision for me and give me advice for what I should do. She did my hair that day. I also like the fact that she wasn’t just trying to take my money. I wanted to get all crazy and do some color. But she directed me away from that idea instead of accepting that idea and getting that extra service put down on the tab. Of course I’m impressed cause I’m not a hairstylist so I’m over here thinking what she did to my hair was magic. But she’s just amazing at what she does. The salon atmosphere is fun. They kept me entertained. There was no annoying up selling or any shenanigans goin on. I couldn’t be happier with my hair. Thank you Rachel girl you hooked it up.

I shouldn’t have waited so long to put up this review. Rachel is one of the best hair pressers Ive ever tried and shes by far one of the best in the Bay. She knows the secret to having healthy hair, and she has the gift of restoring damaged hair and no matter what ethnicity Rachel knows how to do all hair types. She is has great skill and she offers multiple services, including eyelash extensions.

My review is for Tanesha. I’ve been going to her for almost 8 years. Love her. She always fits me in, yet there’s rarely a situation where I have to wait more than 15 minutes to get in the chair, which is important to me, after all time is money. She keeps me laughing and my hair is RIGHT when I leave.

I recently went in to get my hair done at strictly styles.
First I would like to say parking is excellent. There is a free 2 hour parking spot a block away from the salon which is great.
Secondly, I was seen by my stylist on time, she did a great job trimming my ends and washing and blow drying my hair etc. My hair was nice and shiny.
However, when I went to pay for my services, I was told there was a credit card surcharge for using credit cards. I was not told there was a credit card surcharge before using the services and no where in the business was it posted that they charge surcharges or give discounts for cash only.
In conclusion it is AGAINST CALIFORNIA LAW to charge credit card surcharges under California Civil Code 1748 which states:
California has a law, California Civil Code section 1748.1, that prohibits «retailers» from adding a surcharge when a consumer chooses to use a credit card instead of paying by cash. A retailer is someone who sells goods or services or anything else of value, but it does not include government entities and public agencies, such as the state, a city, or a county. Electric, gas, and water companies may also impose a surcharge that allows them to recover the reasonable expenses they incur by customers using credit cards and debit cards, but only if the charge is approved by the Public Utilities Commission.
Although retailers may not add a surcharge when you use a credit card, they can provide a discount to customers who pay cash. For example, the California Court of Appeal found that section 1748.1 was not violated when a gas station posted two sets of prices with a lower price for cash customers where the cash discount was related to the extra costs the gas station incurred in credit card sales. (The case is Thrifty Oil Co. v. Superior Court (2001) 91 Cal.App.4^th 1070.)
The law that prohibits surcharges, but allows discounts, does not offer details on how the discounts must be disclosed or how large they can be. The law also doesn’t specifically mention debit cards. However, California law does prohibit a merchant from engaging in activity that is unfair or deceptive. So, for example, if the cash discount option is not fully disclosed prior to your committing yourself to the goods or services, or if it does not clearly explain the merchant’s policies regarding debit cards, the merchant may be violating California law.
If you know of a merchant that you think is improperly charging people extra for using credit cards you may file a complaint with the Attorney General at
I suggest anyone who has been charged a surcharge for using their credit card report to the Attorney General’s office. This procedure is deceptive and unfair.
Also, request a paper receipt as well. It is deceptive that a business does not give paper receipts with proper labeling for your transaction.
I like strictly styles for the hair care, but I do not like being deceived when paying for services.
You can also report this fraudulent practice to your credit card company.

Just finished my hair appointment with Claudia and I couldn’t be happier. Finally, I’ve found a beauty shop that I actually like in the South Bay. I was on the verge of giving up on Bay Area stylists, but Claudia has renewed my faith.
Why the 5-​star rating?
Timing: She had me in about out of my appointment in under 2 hours. Always a plus in my book if it didn’t take the whole day to get my hair laid. I called a day before my requested appointment date and was able to get in early the next day, which I also appreciated.
Appearance: The place is kept clean and each stylist at their station was relatively pleasant. The babershop is also separate from the beauty shop, which I appreciated.
I noticed credit card and Square stickers on the windows, so it looks like they accept credit cards as payment, but just in case there is an ATM machine within the shop to get cash. However, be warned it charges $ 3 per transaction.
Location: Right on the Alameda and easy to find. It’s a block away from my favorite coffee shop Crema. Be aware that they only offer street parking, which has a 2 hour time limit. Trust me the meter lady, will come by and get you!
Overall, I enjoyed my experience and will be book an appointment with Claudia again.

I was referred to this salon by a friend. I called and was able to make an appt for the next day with Raelyn. She was on time, did not split my time with anyone else and I was out in a couple hours. She was patient with my natural hair an trimmed me up good. Raelyn is friendly and professional. The environment was pleasant. I’ll be back.

The shop is nice, clean, friendly. Mike is a really good barber and he is very organized with his appointments. He has some very nice clippers that are clean, they’re smooth and maintained well. I never came out of the shop with bumps and rashes. I would recommend this place to my family and friends

Brought the little man in to get cleaned up the day before picture day, and it was PACKED! My bad for waiting until the day before Valentine’s Day! The usual spots that I take my son to were busy, so I opted for Strictly Styles Barber Shop since they are the closest to our home, and because of their awesome business hours. It’s damn near impossible to find barber shops who stay open late!
We arrived at 6:30, and my son did not get out of the chair until 8:30. His barber was nice, and did an ok job. It wasn’t the worst cut my son has ever had, but I wouldn’t come in again without an appointment, lots of free time on my hands, and patience. I feel partially to blame for not communicating that I wanted my son’s hair a bit shorter but it had been two hours and we were both tired and hungry. Lesson learned!
The barbers here did good work. I saw a lot of great cuts coming out of this place. I just wasn’t crazy about our experience. I’m not totally writing this place off. The business hours are a blessing to busy moms!

This place is terrible for men. The guy butchered my hair and cut it too short after I told him exactly what I wanted and he said he knew exactly what I meant. my hair has giant chops in it and is not blended at all so I just look stupid now, and I have to wait till it grows out to even get it cut again. its the worst. My favorite part (sarcastically) is that the guy offered me a beer and talked to me the whole time so he thinks he has a customer for life, but he’s dead wrong.
He swiveled me around in the chair so he could just watch the football game. Then our conversation was him just not paying attention to me or my hair and just watching football. then he would just say something barely related to what i just said, but not really.
seriously awful and cannot do mens hair if it is anything besides a fade (I guess, but i bet they would screw that up too). They are exactly what you don’t want. just guys who pretend to talk «bro» to you and don’t pay attention at all while they butcher your hair short enough so you cant even get it fixed for weeks without it looking worse (although i’m not sure that’s possible.)

I wanted to get my hair straightened for New Years Eve. I haven’t had a regular hair stylist since I stopped relaxing my hair in 2005. My ends were also in need of a trim and some shaping. After reading reviews on Unilocal (note: there are a lot of useful reviews that are filtered out, check the bottom of the page) and reviewing their very detailed price list online I decided to give Strictly Styles a try. I made an appointment for Thursday morning with Tasha.
Tasha was a little taken aback by the thickness of my hair. She assured me she could get it relaxer straight and she did. It took a blow out, press, and flat iron to do it but it was silky straight. Like Dark and Lovely box model, swinging, and swaying straight. I was impressed Tasha definitely has skills. Truthfully, it’s probably more heat that I’d like to expose my hair to on a regular basis. But for a special occasion I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again.
The whole service took two hours. Tasha worked on my head pretty much the whole time. With a few pauses for deep conditioning etc. In other shops, stylists end up working on two or three clients at a time. That ends up driving total appointment times up. I didn’t see any of that at Strictly Styles. One client, one stylist.
Maybe my hair salon hiatus is coming to an end…
