Pete D.

Manager

Pete started with Sylvan in 2005 and has worn many hats. He previously worked in public education for 5 years as a classroom teacher serving in many leadership roles like: Gifted and Talented Education Coordinator, technology support, and union representation. Furthermore, he worked in the technology industry. Pete’s skills with writing, editing and web design were used by corporations like Sony, Gateway Computers, and PeopleSoft. Finally, Pete loves film and also enjoys hiking.

We only just started at Sylvan, but I’m already raving about it.
For one, the center director, Mr Peter Delucchi, is absolutely the most understanding, accommodating guy ever. He’s truly a treasure, I wish more people who work with kids had his warm, practical and sympathetic approach.
But honestly, every person we’ve met at Sylvan has been wonderful. My daughter was a little reluctant to get started since Math isn’t her forte, though she’s remarkably gifted when it comes to anything language related. Nonetheless, with a lot of support, she’s now doing better and better.
So happy to have found Sylvan, if you’re in any way doubting whether this is the place for your child, I suggest you give them a call and set up a meeting, because you really have to see it to believe it :)

We’ve been at Sylvan for about 6 weeks and so far it’s been great. I have to say they really have it dialed in with the kids — my 10 year old daughter went kicking and screaming but from the first visit they captured her attention and now she LOVES Sylvan days and always looks forward to them. I also think that we are starting to see improvement in her grasp of Common Core Math and homework is MUCH easier having sessions at Sylvan where she does her homework twice a week. I just purchased another set of hours and am looking forward to see how she advances over the next couple of months. The staff there is great, very responsive and collaborative and my daughter has enjoyed most of her tutors.

My son started Sylvan because he was blow grade standard for reading. He was very frustrated with his language art class at school because he was not able to handle English as he does in his primary language which is Japanese. Once he started Sylvan, he immediately increased his confident level because he could learn many academic vocabularies and idioms there which I was not able to teach him at home. He was very motivated by the token system and the usage of iPad. He always enjoys going Sylvan and come home with big smile. The best of all, his reading shows the major improvement and he is much more confident with his English after 6 months of their touring.

I have relocated from China to US recently and want to give my son some learning experience in order to make him to be more prepared for 1st grade.
One friend of mine introduced me to Director Pete. He is a good guy and give me detail explanation about the plan and course my kid is going to take.
My son and wife are quite happy for this learning institute.

My 6 year old daughter just started here about a month ago and she is SO happy and loves going, which I love. When I tell her today is learning center, she says, YAHHH!
She is improving in her reading skills, letters, sounds, etc. As a working Mom, this place is great. I am very happy that I signed her up. She will do a total of 3 months and be ready for 1st grade. Pete, the director is super nice and all the other staff also. They r all great.

My son, Alex Solov, loves this place. He has learned many things here, really likes all of the tutors. It is a great place for learning in the summer. They have a wonderful gift system, that makes the children work hard to get something, and they feel accomplished. Me and my son both like going, and I recommend it to any child in need of help

My daughter enjoys Sylvan and it supplements her education at school. She was below grade level in reading at the start of the school year and is now reading at grade level. We’ve changed her focus from reading to math now and is learning a steady pace. Most importantly, she enjoys learning and going to Sylvan.

My son completed a program here (he went for about 3 months 2 hours per week) — we are very happy. My son just started middle school this year and so we wanted to make sure to give him a boost in skills. He seemed to enjoy the lessons, and said his teachers were awesome. I can see a bit more confidence in him when it comes to homework and school assignments. So I guess it was money well spent. Thanks Sylvan!

I enrolled my daughter into sylvan because she was below grade level and needed to catch up! I recently had her enrolled in kumon and seen absolutely no progress, but within the 12 hrs she has done at sylvan she has made major progress. I highly recommend sylvan for any child that needs that extra help.

When I took my daughter to Sylvan, she was behind and testing below her grade class average. She needed some help with phonics and reading. She used to put up a fight and at times refuse to try reading because it was too hard. I am thrilled to report that her academic confidence has grown, she is no longer protesting to read and is testing above the class average in nearly all areas. She looked forward to going to tutoring and cheered when I told her it was tutoring day! She loved the playful environment and really liked the earning tokens. I loved the small student teacher ratio and schedule flexibility. I do wish it was more affordable though! I’m so thankful she went and is caught up! Should she need help in the future, she will be back.

My daughter has been going to Sylvan on Camden Ave for three summers in a row. My son has now started. We are thrilled with the results. All the teachers are caring and thoughtful. They all seem to go the extra mile to make your child feel comfortable. Sylvan has managed to make learning fun and has given my children confidence in their ability. I would highly recommend Sylvan to all families. It’s great for children that need to catch up and also for the ones that want a head start.

I highly recommend this Sylvan site! We love the amazing supportive & friendly STAFF. Director Pete Delucchi leads a great team! with the help of Elaine… My Pre-​K son actually enjoys spending 2 hr/​day (per week) being tutored there!!!
If you child needs help or wants to be ahead in school then this is the perfect place!!!
Also, every month there is a parent conference to keep you updated of your child development; you know exactly how your kid is performing.
Sylvan was definitely worth the MONEY.

My son attends this Center. He is enjoying himself while learning to be a more competent writer. I was skeptical at first, but, now, I am satisfied that I enrolled him. He is learning a lot! He is studying, for example, how to apply composition techniques to his writing assignments. The Center Director, Pete, and the Director of Education, Elaine, are very helpful, organized, and good listeners to your needs. The whole team is friendly and knows everyone by their first name; very good ambiance. I also like the fact that they are able to work with my son’s busy schedule; they are flexible. Also, every month, there is a parent conference to keep you updated of your child’s development; you know exactly how your kid is performing.

When I think about how much the team at Sylvan Learning Center in San Jose has helped my three daughters gain confidence, skills and excitement for learning, I want to just cry! These people are not only terrific educators, but they also really understand kids. One daughter gained 3 years’ worth of Language Arts skills in one year of tutoring with Sylvan. She is now AHEAD of her grade and more confident than ever. My first grader begs me to take her to Sylvan even when she doesn’t need it! I am so thankful for the wonderful experience myself and my kids have had. Thank you to Pete, Carrie and the whole team of terrific teachers. We love you!

Sylvan helped my son promote from 8th grade to High School. I was skeptical at first but this was my last resort as nothing was helping my son focus and undertand Algebra. Sylvan was definitely worth the money, commute and time spent!
