Residence Inn San Juan Capistrano

I see quite a lot of negative reviews for this hotel and I personally had a wonderful experience here! I stay in a Marriott 12 – 15 nights a month and I like the Residence brand as they have a kitchen and I like to have a fridge. I also like that the room is separated from the kitchen so the fridge noise and any noise in the hallway doesn’t keep you awake at night. I always enjoy «The Mix» evenings they host where they have light snacks up to s full dinner. I was here a few Wednesday’s a go and was planning on headed out for dinner and the gal said they had a food truck coming and let’s say I’ve never eaten from a food truck until this evening and it was delicious. The had a Mexican/​Korean inspired truck where I had a delicious salad. They also offer free breakfast in the mornings which I didn’t have but I always appreciate the coffee & tea.
The rooms here are nice, spacious, the grounds are clean and very well maintained and the staff is very friendly and helpful!

This is now my go-​to hotel when booking a room for our relatives when they are in town. The King studio is laid out nicely and includes a large computer desk and all the latest amenities. Except for the Ritz and St. Regis, all the other nearby hotels are simply too old and worn-​out.

Stayed here for my daughters soccer tournament. This place was great. Room was affordable, very clean, BIG and comfortable. Loved that it had a full kitchen and nice big sofa for relaxing. Next time we need to stay in the area we will be back!

Nice place but there is no soda machine and what they have for a selection by the office leaves miles of room for improvement. If you are planning on staying BYOB or you will be drinking water.

And the water in the kitchen has been running at wide open flow for over four minutes and there is no hot water. How much water was wasted. Several gallons.
I figured out why no hot water. The faucet is installed backwards.

Not happy with this place. We stayed here and rented multiple rooms for our wedding Labor Day weekend. The last day we were supposed to check out, my wife and I were taking stuff from the room and loading the car up. It was 10 am and we hadn’t checked out. One of the trips back to the room, the door was open, music was blasting, and the maids were sitting down eating our food. On top of that, I bought a special edition 350 $ bottle of champagne for my wife and I the night of the wedding to share. We had one glass each. When I went looking for my bottle, it was gone. The maids threw it away. They poured out the alcohol (or drank it for all I know), and threw the limited edition bottle away. When we told the front desk, the response was «oh no not again.» Not again? This could have been prevented?
We brought the issue up to an employee that assisted us checking in, she said the bottle can be replaced. On our honeymoon we emailed and asked how we get that bottle. Then, all of a sudden, they weren’t allowed to replace alcohol. Basically, they killed a special moment for us for our wedding.
I will never ever stay here again. And I will tell everyone I know not to either. What a disgrace.

I wouldn’t even give it one star I didn’t want to give them even one star. All because rooms everything was great UNTIL WE CHECKED OUT. The assistant manager was quite rude. Charged us $ 2500.00 extra dollars for WHAT?!! His name is DE’Andre Gipson assistant general manager. We already spent a couple thousand that visit and a couple more that trip and he tries to charge us again. Next it happens again now we’re paid up 0 as in zero balance and they do it again…
That was from our previous review the money has not been returned to us they have offered us to come and stay we will not stay until the money is returned they’re just trying to get more money out of us and I’m disgusted with them until DeAndre and whoever else returns that money they will keep getting my reviewthey just maxed out the cards because they COULD because we trusted them totally abused our trust. You return that money. All we want is what you took unjustly and you thought you could get away with it it’s at every cent out except for six dollars which turned out to be over 190 and we weren’t even there for miscellaneous it turned out to be nothing you could not provide an itemized sheet you bet you better get your ducks in a row because I’m now thinking about a lawsuit this is wrong how dare you. And you just cast us a side very rude DeAndre. I was waiting to see how long it will take you to put the money back but you just left that message hoping I would go away thinking you didn’t have to well here I am I’m not going anywhere return what is not yours. I can’t believe you get away with this. Do you won’t with us. Since then we’ve been at the Doubletree in Dana point little more expensive but definitely more honest. We don’t have to worry about our account and our money on our cards with them like we do with you. Reimburse us or you will have more problems… Did I mention that I’m fighting stage IV breast cancer– and I feel disgusted even having to say it because that shouldn’t get your attention that’s why I haven’t had the energy in the last month but I read what you said which was nothing it was a lot of nothing … Just like our money back my money back as soon as possible thank you DeAndre

Room was OK, not great. The range hood fan did not work, eliminating the option of cooking in the room. The pool area was nice, but there was just nothing about this stay that justified $ 250. It would have been a OK room for half that price.

First of all I just want to say there is common saying «there is no hospitality like understanding» this place is out of touch with the norms and gestures of hospitality. The first thing the front desk girl fired at me was $ 20 charge for parking. I asked her if this is how they welcome guests. Well we don’t owe the parking lot was her answer. Well you don’t owe lot of things. That means I the customer am responsible for them? Anyways she agreed to waive the fee. I think I might have ticked her off. She got us into a room that had a small secret room. At first we did not pay attention because it looks like doorway to balcony. But there was this sound coming from the room just like someone taking shower upstairs. At night we went to bed late and there was a constant sound coming from that secret room. Tried to open it found its been bolted. Now I realized there was water heater in there. So our room had water heater for the whole building next to the king size bed. So I thought I don’t want to create a scene at this time of night and spent all night turning and tossing. The only thing that made me upset is why didnot they tell us about that when we checked in. Next morning I called front desk and to my surprise I got my life’s most obnoxious women on the phone. Everything I said she did not register but turned around blamed everything on me. She said it’s airconditioning that’s making noise which was total bull crêpe. I was barely starting my day and was in no mood of confrontation. Following were the choices she laid out for me
1)she don’t believe it’s hotels fault, it’s customers responsibility to come back and tell how the constant sound of running water bothers them. So technically they are not obligated to do anything.
2,) since she is very generous and will take this to the zenith of hospitality by loaning us a pair of earplugs.
3)she can have us gather our stuff and move to different room.
4)she can call engineering department to look at the problem and come up with possible solution.
5) will let Mgr know as soon as he comes.
While I am arguing she h/​u on me. That really pissed me off. I went downstairs and went to front desk. After spending 600 for two days she h/​u in my face instead of acknowledging the problem. I was indignant for sure. No one was at front desk. I am standing there for 15 mins. A waiter glanced at me twice but was too busy serving breakfast. Only when I called waiter she comes out of office right behind the front desk. As she is coming out I saw surveillance system s screen in the office. So she very well saw me standing and on purpose kept me standing like a moron. That added oil to fire .I went off on her but still she stood there smiling like she is waving goodbye to someone at the airport. The only thing I heard from her was I will let a manager know. On top of that this old lady who knows nothing about the issue jumps in with her 50 cents and tells me that this is not the way to speak to the lady. With all due respect to her age I had to tell her to mind her own buisness as I am very well versed in the art of conversation and that’s what I do for living. I wanted to see what action the hotel will take once the manager comes in. At the request of my gf I promised I will not engage or complain about anything because that’s not what we were there for. I was ready to take it to the regional or area manager but she just won’t let me. As per her our time and peace is far important than anything else. So we went to store and bought some plugs ourselves. I did saw the manager the morning we left and honestly we did exchange glances but he seemed like he is still in 7^th cloud. With his hands locked behind his back he walks up and down like a robot. The few times I saw him he always stood with either hands I’m his pockets or locked behind But unfortunately despite all this the hotel didnot even bother to check on us or made one single sincere attempt to address this issue. I told my gf no action on our part is why they are emnoldened not to even bother and it is not proactive approach on our part. I remember another quote
That boy is your company. And if he wants to eat up that tablecloth, you let him, you hear?
Do they know what is real meaning of hospitality?.

Bri, Grace, and the rest of the management, and front desk staff were a perfect 10. Stayed at tons of hotels… many Marriotts– the service could not be friendlier… The rooms. great… clean… spacious.nice.
Not a hotel for «view» as it’s location does not provide for that. I am very picky… I only have great things to say about this place, would stay again, recommend to others. Perfect location as it’s only a quick 3 – 4 minute drive to old town San Juan Capistrano. Did I mention it’s all about the customer service…? This staff gets it. A fantastic weekend stay.

Poor Management & Front Desk Service. This place is ridiculous in all the worst possible ways. After multiple service room issues & talking to managment & front desk, my vaporizer valued at over $ 100 was then taken from my room.
Management here did not want to acknowledge or compensate my claim. I finally received compensation from the corporate office which told me this location should have handled my claim directly & advised me to not let them service my room anymore. I have also heard other people at the pool say items were also taken from their rooms. Be sure to lock up or take your valued items with you.
Now I clean my own room. Unfortunately I am here for an extended stay & this is the only hotel location with a kitchen & self laundry in this area or I would have immediately went elsewhere.
I have had multiple issues over & over including being locked out of the room, poor dinner/​desert service, replacing room necessities when they did service my room & so on. Also my room was always being cleaned super late. I.E. 6pm-​on a Friday! So I should cancel my 7pm dinner reservations because I can’t shower & get ready while my room gets «cleaned». A manager said this place is like a resort. Ha! So far from that they must not know what a resort really is.
There are some decent service people here but too bad they have to operate under this management.
By far the worst Residence Inn I have had to stay in all over the country. Negative stars for this place, too bad because the location & outside amenities are great.

The entire staff and especially the manager DeAndre have been so helpful and kind. The hotel is very clean and beds are awesome. I would defiantly recommend staying here.

No hot water in my room. No hair drier and they put us in a handicap room that smelled like mildew. Not happy at all with this place.

Wow. Fresh, clean, nicely appointed. The two twenty-​somethings working behind the counter at check-​in were courteous, helpful, maintained eye contact and made me feel welcome. The room was very nice. Lots of space and comfortable furniture. The bed was very comfortable as well. The room was spotless upon arrival.
The breakfast was okay. Seems like it could have used more attention from the attendant. It was the standard Residence Inn fare and all fresh.
My only downside was a bit of construction noise being made on the highway next to the property. Obviously this is completely out of the control of the Residence Inn and will be over soon enough. Besides, it made for an interesting 7:00am alarm clock. Aside from the construction noise the rooms were very quiet.
Overall this was one of the nicer Residence Inns I’ve experienced, and I’m a Marriott Platinum Elite member so I’ve seen a few.

We went away after thanksgiving day for a night. We were upgraded to a one bedroom and $ 12 parking fee was waived for us. We felt sooo special. Both of them at the front desk are very friendly and accommodating.
They made sure that we are happy when we checked out as well. The one bedroom gave our daughters a little privacy. it was definitely home away from home. thank you very much.
It pays to be an elite member of the Marriott.

My review comes from a different perspective, but nonetheless, is a well deserved kudos.
As a holistic healthcare practitioner, and self-​care expert for busy professionals and veterans, I travel between San Diego and LA to get my work in the communities of those I wish to serve.
Recently I began connecting with a well known, recently medically retired Marine Veteran who has been interested in the alternative healing arts I offer. To make our initial time together more comfortable, i researched places we could meet in Orange County and have a few sessions.
I found The Residence Inn in San Juan Capistrano a beautiful and appropriate place for such a meeting.
I called and spoke with Mr. Gibson, the Assistant General Manager, about a possible donation of time for the use of a room to help this wounded warrior. I explained to Mr. Gibson the nature of my work and how it will ultimately affect many other veterans and professionals having this wounded warrior experience what I do, and we would love to use the comforts of his hotel.
Mr. Gibson is an absolute pleasure to know and work with, and I am grateful they care so much about veterans. He told me they would love to accommodate our time and help where they can. For the past two Saturdays, and two more to come, I have used their stellar suites and it has been not only rewarding, but extremely comfortable for all of us. The hotel and its staff are professional, comfortable, and welcoming, and they do everything they can to make sure your needs are met.
Mr. Gibson himself is on point with his business and enjoys what he does. Because of his hospitality, I am planning on my own stay at the hotel for business in the coming months, and I look forward to it. The rooms are luxurious and quite impressive!
The entire purpose of this review is to not only say thank you to Mr. Gibson and the staff for hosting my client and myself, but to give others an unique perspective of the quality people that this hotel employs. I will recommend them to my guests or friends as they need. But their care makes my drive up from San Diego that much more worth it next to helping heal this remarkable hero I have had the pleasure to support.

Stayed here for an overnight trip w my Mom and was surprised at what a lovely hotel this is! The service, lobby and the rooms were all top notch and really nicely appointed.
I read reviews that commented about the train but we only heard it once and it seemed to stop thru the night (or I was just that tired that I never heard it again?). It wasn’t a bother to me or my Mom. Our room was facing the pool so not sure if other areas of the hotel are worse.
Note: They have a free shuttle to Dana Point Harbor and to old town San Juan Capistrano. This came in really convenient! As other mentioned they do charge for parking but this kind of made up for it because parking can be difficult and expensive in those areas.
I will definitely stay here again… really enjoyed my stay! :)

My husband and I have stayed here on multiple occasions. We’ve probably racked up close to 30 nights here. This hotel was always our go-​to hotel whenever I drove or flew down to see him.
It is very clean and we’ve never had a problem with anything being broken or missing in the rooms. If we ever had a question or a problem, a phone call always fixed whatever that was wrong. The hotel itself is also very well maintained. And it is pet friendly. Given there is a $ 100 cleaning fee, but definitely worth it. The small kitchenette is also nice equipped with cooking pans, plates, etc. I wish the vent worked a little better, but you can’t ask for much when it’s a microwave vent. Two downsides to this hotel, f you stay in the studio, there is no oven. Only the two bedrooms have ovens, I believe. The other would be the parking fee. Whenever we stay here, we always stay for at least three days or as long as two weeks, and the parking tends to add up.
The staff is always very accommodating and very friendly. We come here so often, some of the staff know us by name at the front desk. We’ve never had a problem with check-​in, and on multiple occasions, have been allowed to check-​in early. Actually, I think every time we’ve ever arrived early, a room was always ready for us even if we did not have a reservation. Everyone is always very friendly and since we’re elite members with Marriott, we’re allowed for a later check-​out.
The sweetest thing Residence Inn and their staff has done for us was allowing us to check-​out at 6PM the day my husband was deploying. We had just moved out of our apartment and did not want to extend our lease for a week, so we decided to stay here. We also knew that I was not going to stay the night at the hotel the night he was deploying, so asked if they could allow us to check-​out at 6PM instead of noon. They were very understanding and let us do an extremely late check-​out, without charging us any extra.
We are always recommending this hotel to our friends and cannot wait to stay here again.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. DO NOT STAY HERE! I’ll first start out by saying that the housekeeping staff are thieves! My ipod got stolen out of my guest room when it was placed in the given iPod dock in my guest room while I went to work.
Management gave me the runaround for several weeks before they came up with a pathetic «our investigation turned up nothing». This was after calling management several times before anyone would return my call. No reconciliation at all for my stolen property.
Staff so unprofessional– night time desk clerk noted my name when I came to his desk asking for a replacement key, and looked me up on facebook, Sent me a friend request.
Property? in the middle of nowhere directly off the freeway. .
Go to Double tree Doheny Beach. This whole place, and the way its ran is scummy.

The rooms are big and have the perfect layout for 2 – 3 people per room, the property is beautiful and the staff is beyond friendly.
We only stayed one night, but we had absolutely no complaints. We checked in pretty early which they were very accommodating to, and then returned in the evening and hung out in the jacuzzi (which closes at 10pm which is the start of «quiet hour»). They are dog friendly and there is plenty of space on the property to walk your pups.
In the morning they have complimentary breakfast in the little lounge area with a patio and really nice view.
I would absolutely stay here again.
