Bayfront Custom Cabinets & Closets

The install team was exceptional and took great care to install the product.
The owners put a lot of effort in to helping us design our kitchen and our closet cabinets.
The done in wood look very elegant. Those painted white look very well.
All apear to be very well made; strong with high quality hardware with self closing doors and drawers. We would not hesitate to recommend Bayfront as we got a very custom, high quality job.

Seems the reviews here are either 5 star or 1 star. We sadly have to have 1 star too, for not dissimilar reasons to the others, but I will give a bit more detail. The short version is that there are clear downsides to a small company, as we saw on a few occasions.
Vitaly was at first very quick in responding and set up a meeting fairly quickly and I was pretty encouraged by it. I thought he was understanding of what we wanted and at that stage was already forming an opinion that we would go with them. We were pretty specific about what we wanted so it wasn’t as though he needed to do a lot of thinking about the designs, other than one smallish closet. We met on a Monday and he said he would have a proposal for us by the following Monday. By the following Wednesday I had heard nothing so sent an email politely asking when I could expect the proposal. He replied that there had been a family tragedy and I would need to wait another week. I am of course fully sympathetic to this, although it did seem a little strange to me that there wasn’t at least something sent out to clients (presumably others were also waiting for things) to warn them of delays. Anyway the next week came and went and finally about 3 weeks after we first met he let me know he had a proposal and could we meet to talk about it. However at that stage we were about to go away on a vacation and we therefore arranged a meeting for soon after we got back. Almost half an hour after the appointed time I sent an email asking what had happened, he later responded apologising and saying the meeting had disappeared from his diary, could we do another. We set up another. The morning of that one he called to say something had gone wrong at the office that only he could deal with and he would be late. At this point I was not very happy, perhaps Vitaly thinks I am just a housewife with nothing to do but sit around all day and that my time is not important? Both days I had full days that had been juggled and messed up by this. Anyway he finally arrived and although he kept to a shortened time as I had to ask for, I was disappointed to see that he just had black and white sketches (which I was left with carbon copies of), and not only that but some things that I had very specifically asked for had not been added in (and would cost extra on his quote when they were). There was this very strange reluctance to give me proper imaging, when I asked for it he at first seemed reluctant to do it at all, then said he would do them if we decided we wanted to go ahead with the project … and then he would have to come back and show it to me on his computer, he wouldn’t email it to me. As if he was scared I was going to steal his designs (as I said I had been very specific about what I wanted and all he really did was draw what I had asked him to…) …and then of course I was wondering what was going to go wrong with the next appointed time… In the meanwhile California Closets had (with the same initial discussions obviously about what I wanted so ending up with very similar designs) sent me proper imaging and despite Vitaly talking about a 30% special off his quote, the overall cost was very similar. So with no price advantage, no proper images to work with and by now a very real fear of continual delays — if we had faced such issues when they were trying to get a contract, what would they do once we had paid a deposit? — we went elsewhere.

We had an entertainment center, closets (her closet, his closet, 3 other bedrooms) and garage cabinets built by Bayfront Custom Cabinets.
We couldn’t be happier.
Paul from Bayfront was awesome. He stopped by on a Thursday evening and gave us ideas — he designed an elegant entertainment center. We met again on the same Saturday, we suggested a few corrections, Paul stayed around for a few hours, redid all his drawings and gave us a really good deal.
The installers were professional and did a thorough, clean job. I will upload some photos when I get a chance.
Bayfront is as good as it gets. Paul rocks.

Very easy to call, receive design consultation and have your project completed.
Hamish came out to our house shortly after we made an appointment. He was able to suggest a lot of great design ideas and took measurements to draw up his own blueprint. He then came back with the blueprint and walked us through the plan to make it match the character of our house. He did a great job capturing our vision for our space and even helped us choose a better stain then we initially wanted. He really listens to what you say and really makes custom suggestions to develop the final design. We locked down the details and were advised we would receive a call back when installation was ready. Our initial consultation to our installation dated was only 3 weeks which is really fast compared to all the other quotes we received.
Day of installation, Felix came with two other guys and gave me an idea of their plans. They laid down protective blankets and began setting up their work space. Everything went smoothly and pretty fast. Day one the structure was up and 80% compete. On day 2 the returned to complete the finishing touches and make any adjustments we wanted. They were very accommodating and willing to do anything to get it how we wanted. It only took them a half day to complete and in the end our unit came out perfect. Our house was left as clean as it was before they started.
Happy we chose Bayfront because we went through 3 other companies that didn’t really have the experience or design capability like Hamish. You can tell he’s been doing this and knows what looks good. Other companies made general design suggestions that would have left us unsatisfied.

We shopped around for a long time for the perfect set up for our master closet, and most of the places that we met with were outrageously expensive and didn’t offer all the features that we wanted. Bayfront was an exception to all of them. Vitaly was the person who did the design for ours. He listened and paid attention to our requirements and made very fantastic recommendations on what we should focus on and what will not work. I LOVE our closet. Perfectly designed to store all our items.

Writing my 2^nd review due to another wonderful experience. After such a superb job the 1^st time, we decided to contact Vitaly again to return to help guide us with a desk installation with above cabinetry and the redesign/​remodel of our 2 closets. Vitaly’s ideas were perfect for our needs. He was sensitive to the fact that as I mentioned in my 1^st review, our space is quite small… certainly since downsizing from a 2800 square foot home to a 1250 square foot condo!!!
When the installation date arrived, we were ‘chomping at the bit’ for the work to be done.
Jan, Felix and Scott arrived as cheerful as ever and went right to work. They make a good team and we are so amazed & dumbfounded at how thorough, experienced & professional they are! Add to that, they are so engaging and always aim to please. They interact with you to make sure you get what you want and not once does it seem like they are rushed or disinterested in their creation.
By 3pm that day, our place looked like a piece in Architectural Digest (I’m not exaggerating)!!
We again, the 2^nd time around, are so pleased & thankful for their craftsmanship and demeanor.

We had an entertainment cabinet built in our family room by Bayfront last month. They did an incredible job and we couldn’t be happier with how it came out. The designer we worked with was Vitaly and he was awesome! He’s so professional and such a nice guy! He designed an absolutely beautiful cupboard and media cabinet. We now have plenty of storage and it looks great. He was so easy to work with and best of all it came in under our budget! I was a great experience and I would highly recommend them to anyone needing custom cabinetry!

Hamish showed up on time for the initial appointment. We walked him through what we were looking for in detail. It took WEEKS to get an initial proposal from him. He scheduled time to bring the proposal over on multiple occasions and simply didn’t show or call until hours later after his scheduled time. When the proposal did finally show up, it wasn’t as we discussed we wanted (and we even showed him photos of what we were looking for). When I followed up to adjust the proposal, the company never responded and my system showed that they clearly read the message. It goes without saying that we are using another local company who was more professional and detail oriented.

We had a wonderful experience working with Vitaly to design a custom murphy bed/​home office solution for our Craftsman-​style home in Albany. After doing extensive research online, we ended up selecting Bayfront because we wanted someone who could execute a custom design with high quality materials. Vitaly came to our house, took extensive measurements, and reviewed all of the online inspiration images we’d gathered. He then sent us a detailed drawing of the proposed plan. The resulting design was exactly what we had in mind. We had a lot of details we wanted (including drop-​down cabinets to serve as bedside tables for the murphy bed, a cabinet to hide the printer and some stylistic touches to match our home’s Craftsman design) and Vitaly understood and delivered on all of them. Vitaly gave us a range of material options to weigh against our budget and allowed us to select our own hardware. We ended up going for the higher end custom-​built wood cabinets. They had us send a paint sample of our existing trim and they returned a painted sample of what they came up with as the matching paint color. The master cabinetmaker and his assistant assembled the cabinets at our house and installed them over a four-​day period to ensure a perfect fit. They added crown molding on the top and trim along the bottom for a seamless integration into the room. They also perfectly balanced the murphy bed springs with our mattress to make it incredibly easy to raise and lower. They were two of the most professional tradesmen I’ve ever had in my house and left the space impeccable between install days. Their office staff was incredibly friendly and professional as well. If we ever have another custom cabinet need I wouldn’t even consider other options — I would just go straight back to Bayfront.

Hamish is all class! He remodeled the kitchen of the new gym I just moved into. Beautiful counter and cabinetry work, completely beyond my expectations. On top of that and being the contractor that he his, he helped take down a 20 ft wall on a separate project we’re working on… Talk about going the extra mile!
Good man, great heart and excellent workmanship… I definitely recommend him for all your custom remodeling needs. You get a lot more than what you pay for!

Hemish seemed great during our first and second visits. The design was what I was looking for and I was ready to move forward. The problem occurred when he stood me up for the third visit. I left him numerous messages to see what the issue was. To this date I still haven’t heard from him. It’s too bad he didn’t have the decency to return my phone calls and give me an explanation. I’m assuming he made a mistake in pricing and wasn’t willing to face the customer.

This company did such an outstanding job with our wall bed/​office space. I would recommend them to anyone.

Writing this review to commend Bayfront Custom Cabinets for their excellent customer service and craftsmanship for a recent project at our home.
After calling similar companies around the Bay Area, we decided to use Bayfront Custom Cabinets. Vitaly made himself available around our schedule, was prompt and courteous. Utilizing our concept from watching many home renovation shows, Vitaly used his years of experience and worked with us to create a design that would fit our home. When it came time to construct, the builders were very professional and turned our vision into a reality. We are very pleased with the end product and recommend them for others interested in custom work.

We had two (his and hers) master closets built. What set Vitaly apart is the time he spent with our family to discuss our requirements, LISTENED and then turn around and designed something that exceeded our expectations.
When the closets came, they were installed promptly and accurately. When the crew encountered a glitch, they called me with a proposed solution already in mind (that did not cost me extra $$).
Overall, wonderful to deal with, the entire team has a great customer service attitude and excellent product!
Bayfront will be back to do other rooms in our home. We highly recommend them!

Great Experience with Bayfront Cabinets! Vitaly did us good!
We had a closet and study that we wanted to customize. We had two companies give us design ideas and Bayfront Cabinets won hands down. The closet Vitaly designed is phenomenal and we notice it everyday when we walk in. We even threw in a curve ball requesting a mirror be installed. Vitaly listened to the idea and then suggested something EVEN BETTER! Now we have the closet, the mirror and it is perfect!
The study was another pleasant surprise. The installation was smooth but as we moved into the space we realized we needed more shelves. Again Vitaly’s design experience paid off. He had designed the cabinets so that all the shelves were interchangeable! That way we could distribute the shelves we had behind cabinet doors and the open shelves easily! Its a small thing — but it made a big difference in how we use the space.
I’d highly recommend Bayfront Cabinets!

Bayfront Cabinets did a fantastic job on our loft cabinets and I cannot recommend them enough.
I met with 5 different companies/​individuals, over many months, for an estimate on building out our loft cabinets. I do my due diligence when it comes to researching companies to work on my home — I even met with 4 different electricians just to move a cable & electrical outlet over for these cabinets, because I wanted to make sure I was hiring a knowledgeable yet affordable contractor.
But back to our cabinets, I wanted to combine two different designs I saw in two model homes from our builder. I had pictures and knew exactly what I wanted. One other local design center I had previously tried to get an estimate from had even told me what I wanted was «not structurally possible.» Well, I knew it was structurally possible because I had pictures & plans of it from the model home. It took me many months of research before I finally found Bayfront through the Home Concepts mailer/​magazine.
Vitaly came out to our home, looked at the two designs I wanted to combine, and got to work sketching out his 3D drawings for our loft. We also had him design & quote us on our master closet. Cabinet & closet design is Vitaly’s business and expertise — he came up with designs for our master closet we never would have thought to do on our own, and surpassed the pre-​fab, boring, uncreative designs we had received from 2 other closet companies for our master closet.
All of Bayfront’s cabinets are manufactured by them — not ordered in as a pre-​fab from out of state — so they were able to create just about anything I wanted.
We knew pretty quickly that Vitaly was our guy, and I knew before hiring them that we were going to be more than satisfied with their work, and we are. We are thrilled with our loft cabinets that triples as a double office for my husband and myself (workspace for each of us), entertainment unit for our TV, and decorative shelving to display our knick knacks and pictures. Bayfront is currently quoting us on our daughter’s closet and a guest closet, and we cannot wait to hire Bayfront to do our master closets, hopefully next year! Thank you Vitaly for your hard work & beautiful cabinetry!

We had a great experience with Bayfront custom cabinets and closets.
They came recommended by our friends and their quality of work, costs and attention to customer experience was very good. They are not a franchise and the owners of the company directly work with customers (which leads to better customer experience). We used them to outfit our master closet, children’s closets, guest closets and garage closets.
To start with Hamish (designer/​owner) was fantastic with the design and recommendations. With every room he had specific suggestions– long hanging in girls room, where we should place drawers in master closets etc. I had 3 other closet companies come out and felt that they were mostly trying to push a generalized version of closets across all rooms. Bayfront’s prices were better overall as well.
Their install team was really good — Steve and Chris were very efficient and responsive to our needs. They installed all closets with minimal disruption. Steve even helped me install a couple of pieces of our own furniture that were not in scope. They also painted the closets (they had to rip out the basic install). Bayfront sent out a follow-​up service team when we requested additional shelves and valet rods/​tie racks.
Aleksandra (co-​owner) was very responsive on scheduling the install and on the accounting/​invoicing front. She was a pleasure to deal with and sent me copies of initial drawings (since I misplaced mine when we moved to our new house).
Overall this is a a great company with good product at a reasonable price that cares about its customers. I hope that they continue to provide this level of (excellent) service to their growing list of customers.
I would use them again and recommend them to my friends and family without any hesitation.
