Jennie is a residential remodeling specialist, with an emphasis on kitchens, bathrooms, space planning and interior and exterior color work.

After graduating from CCAC with a degree in design, Jennie entered the industry by working for design-​build firms all over the Bay Area. This experience expanded her education of the construction industry, enhancing her ability to work within client’s budgets.

Jennie refers to herself as a «Design Coach», to help guild you through the multiple steps and decisions that need to be made for your remodeling or interior design makeover projects. Whether you are looking for a single consultation, or a set of permit ready plans and specifications for contractor bids, Jennie will gladly accommodate your needs.

History

Established in 1998.

Jennie opened her own design firm, called Design Source. This was in answer to the need of her clients wanting to work with and independent designer, to then be able to select the appropriate contractor to accomplish the work. She has worked on hundreds of Kitchen and Bathroom remodels in the last 25 years all over the greater Bay Area.

Her design studio is nestled in her home’s backyard in the Estudillo Estates area of San Leandro. Being centrally located makes it easy for her to service her clients all over the Bay Area. Jennie’s interest in design started as a young girl in the Midwest. The changing of the season’s foliage inspired her to shape fallen leaves into outlines of floor plans in the front yard, and once blown away she would then explore another layout, like the ZEN drawings in sand. During her middle school years she created three dimensional miniature «Mouse Houses» which she sold at local Arts & Crafts fairs. In high school she took her first adult education classes in interior design and found her calling. In college she explored fine art, graphic design, gallery management, engineering, interior design and architecture. She graduated from California College of Arts and Crafts with a degree in General Design. Jennie Gisslow specializes in residential design, and has been published in numerous books and magazines, winning both local and international awards. My wife and I engaged Jennie Gisslow from Design Source early last Spring to help us with the plans to achieve a 20 year dream of remodeling all 2 ½ baths in our San Leandro home. We had, and continue to have, a wonderful experience with her. Her creativity exceeded our expectations. She is thoughtful, thorough, and a joy to work with. She warned us that the design process might take longer than we anticipated, and she was right, but the extra time spent and careful review and alterations to her meticulously drawn plans was time well invested. She has guided us all the way through design, material selection, and provided wonderful, detailed packages to present to contractors as they were interviewed and selected. She has made herself available as questions arise, and continues to partner with us as we are ready to launch the construction phase. Jennie is top notch, and a graceful, patient and understanding partner. We highly recommend her for any design needs!

Had a wonderful experience working with Jennie. We did a complete bathroom gut. Her space planning skills were unbelievable. I always considered the bathroom to be small and there are 4 us of using the space on a daily basis. We separated the shower and tub which I am so happy with however didn’t really think was possible. She tucked the toilet in a spot I never would have considered and it is perfect. On a personal level, she is lovely to work with, and also very skilled and professional. She kept us on task and guided us through choices /​/​decisions. Would hire her again for any future projects.

Jennie is fabulous! She is knowledgeable about materials, sources, and design, on top of that she’s easy to work with and gratifyingly affordable.
Recently I found myself in the middle of an unplanned remodel of an older-​style duplex unit after a tenant’s unexpected marriage and exit. I didn’t know where to begin: what materials and design would offer the widest appeal and durability, but still be budget friendly. I discovered Jennie on Facebook, and after reading up on her here at Unilocal,decided to give her a try. Am I glad I did!
She was punctual, respected my goals, and helped me avoid what would have been costly and unnecessary mistakes. At the same time, she brought potential problem areas to my attention early (such as an odd sized oven and what to do about replacing it) so I wouldn’t be caught by surprise later.
She referred me to some great source stores for materials I would need, and suggested coordinating colors to achieve the look I was going for in the kitchen and throughout the house. She also had great referrals for contractors of various sorts to implement the work, but I went with my own guys.
My unit is starting to look so good I’d be happy to move into it myself! Thanks Jennie, for improving my property and the living experience of my next tenant — and for keeping it all affordable (which adds to *my* living experience!). You’re worth your weight in gold.

If you are thinking of doing a project around your home, I recommend you speak with Jennie Gisslow at Design Source before you do anything. People that visit our home always comment on our bathrooms being the most beautiful they have ever seen.
Jennie will take your ideas to the next level and help you achieve a personal and distinctive end result. The cost of a consultation and plan is far less expensive than making an expensive mistake that you have to live with. Jennie also provides you with resource lists and advice on where to get the best value for your dollar on materials. The money we saved in travertine alone more than paid for the plans of our bathrooms.
Design Source has been our one stop designer for over 10 years for everything from Master Bathroom Space Planning, Exterior Façade Face Lift, Master Suite Remodel, two bathroom remodels, outdoor BBQ design and placement, and paint color selection. Deadlines are always met, Jennie’s experience is incredible, and working with her eliminates the stress associated with designing and material selection so that you can sleep better at night.

Design Source made my bathroom beautiful! Jennie is extremely knowledgeable, has great suggestions, AND listens to client input with great patience. Her drawings offered a ton of options. The package she put together for us (and the contractors and the city for plan approval) were easy to use and read. Plus, she puts together such a wonderful project binder to help organize material sourcing, ideas, and so much more. Working with Jennie was truly a great experience.
