TFI does alterations and tailoring of bridal gowns, dresses & formal wear, fine leather & fur, jeans, uniforms, handicap apparel, motorcycle leathers, purse & bag repair, in addition to mending, resizing, reshaping, & restyling of garments. Plus we also repairs sporting goods such as tents, sleeping bags, outdoor gear, zippers & snaps and neoprene wetsuits and surf bags.

History

Established in 1989.

TFI started with only one employee in 1989 in a small store front in San Luis Obispo. It quickly grew to 5 employees and a larger space in the Laurel Lane Shopping Center. The business continued to add additional services like sporting goods and outdoor gear repair, heavier leather and fur repairs. As the customer base continued to expand so did the services offered and addition staff was added.

In late 2013 TFI moved to a brand new improved facility at 3000 Broad St. (next to STAPLES) which helped the staff of 12 better assist its coustomers.

Expensive. $ 35 to alter a skirt (shorten and bring in) and it took 1 week. The work itself is good. The seams were done well and professional. I like supporting a local business but I think its just too pricey.

Had a dress that needed alterations and had heard good things about this place so I thought I would give it a try, although I was nervous it would not turn out well I pushed on. The older lady helping me on my initial drop off visit was quite nice and helpful. She pinned my straps the way I needed them and took a look at the length and thought we should shorten it, I told her to only shorten the chiffon layer because I generally liked the long length of the dress. Apparently she didn’t have the same vision as me! When I came to pick up the dress it was much shorter then I had wanted it and the hemming seemed a tad crooked. She straightened the hem which was helpful but now I’m stuck with a dress too short for my liking. I am not impressed with this company and their work unfortunately, best of luck if you decide to take your clothing here for alterations.

I have brought a few pairs of pants in to be hemmed before and thought they did a great job, but when I had to bring my daughters high school softball uniform (which was an adult large and she wears an adult extra small) in to be altered, I was blown away! They did such an amazing job, it fits her perfectly and they did it as a rush, she had pictures and games and only a short period of time to get it done in. I was really impressed, this is an excellent place for alterations and the staff is amazing! friendly and knowledgeable!

The customer service at The Fitting Image is remarkable! Not only are they friendly, they are reliable and customer service oriented! Not to mention their professional and skillful attention to alterations. I took in some shoes that needed just a bit of work. They gave an honest assessment, were timely and took care of me wonderfully. I will definitely be back with any future alterations! They totally get it when it comes to superior customer oriented service!!!

What a treat! So pleased to find this business. Courteous and very professional. I was waited on within minutes, made to feel comfortable and confident in their ability to alter the garment I brought in. It was ready on time and perfectly done. In the future I will not hesitate to buy apparel that might be a bit too long or loose-​fitting because I now have the perfect solution to any clothing alteration that might be necessary. I’ll be back.

The only thing you have to be careful about with this business… is that it is addicting!!! They do such an amazing job on everything and at such an incredible price that I have practically brought my entire closet here! Whether it is something simple or complex, they will take there time to discuss with you your best options on the alteration and have been very helpful and creative in the times I needed it most! Kitty the owner is wonderful and all the ladies are very sweet and pleasant. Won’t ever take my clothes anywhere else :)

Kitty at The Fitting Image was fantastic. I took my wedding dress to her and she had the first round of alterations done for me in a week and then we did a second round of minor touch-​ups. The whole thing took 2 weeks to get back to me. It fits absolutely perfectly now. And my dress had a lot of lace on it so it was no easy task. Reasonably priced too. Brides: Definitely go here!

Absolutely amazing business! I called late in Monday evening (8pm) when I discovered my wedding dress no longer zipped up correctly. The wedding was only 3 days away! I was in total panic! The wonderful ladies at TFI called me back the same night and had me come in first thing in the morning to try my dress on for them. Not only did they complete the alterations perfectly, but they did it within the same day and only charged $ 38! As if all that isn’t fantastic enough, the staff socialized and chatted with my sister and I, making us feel completely comfortable following our state of panic! TFI will from now on be the only place I go for alterations! Hopefully next time it just won’t be such a rush!

I’ve been taking all of my «anything that needs to be altered» to Fitting Image for over 5 years. I love the friendly, professional staff. I became their client when another alteration shop in SLO had issues with simple directions I’d given her about altering a pair a jeans — it was her unprofessional manner in which she lost me as a client and Fitting Image gained a happy customer. They’re consistently timely, happy to see me, I’ve never had issue and I get exactly was I request for. The dog with mohawk is a comical bonus — just toss the ball. I sent many of my friends there and I highly recommend them.

TFI saved the day. I’m a San Diego local who was driving up for a wedding on the Central Coast. I ended up being in a severe rush leaving SD and when I picked up my dress from the alterations lady down there, I did not try it on before I left. Big mistake. When I went to try it on two nights before the wedding, I discovered she’d sewn it practically 2 sizes too tight — I couldn’t even zip it halfway up.
Of course, the bride and I went into panic mode and the next morning (the day before the wedding, which was an hour south) we called Kitty, who did my bride’s dress. MIRACLE WORKER. She not only got it done in 2 hours, but spent a good amount of time with me making sure the lace worked well with the alterations — something the lady down south didn’t even consider. Bottom line, I don’t know what I would have done without Kitty. Love the ladies here! They saved the day and made me look FABULOUS!

I could not have asked for a better seamstress to alter my wedding dress, than Kitty! She was amazing from start to finish (and trust me it was no short process). My dress was beautiful, but I wanted a lower back, and straps added, as well as needing certain parts taken out to fit my hips, other parts needing to be taken in for my bust, and so on. The process was pretty grueling (more than either of us imagined in the beginning), and although it was so much work– she continued to do amazing, hard work, and met with me on several occasions to make it perfect for me. I also had several events during this process (bachelorette party, another wedding, etc) and Kitty was extremely fast and helpful at hemming and taking in those dresses with minimal notice. I really appreciated her customer service, enjoyed chatting with her, and am very thankful for the beautiful outcome– which received countless compliments. Thank you Kitty!

These ladies are amazing. I needed to be measured for a dress I was ordering online. I called three different places who said they could not do it. I call here and they said to come in anytime. I went in after work and they measure me in five minutes and didn’t charge me anything. I would highly recommend them and If I ever need anything altered I will be going back to these ladies.

TFI was great. There did exactly what I needed done and it was done quickly. The cost was a little less than what I have paid els-​ware in the county for the same service. They understood my body shape and helped me with helm hight recommendations. Nice to do business with people who care.

I had a new custom made wetsuit which was almost impossible to put on and take off. I spoke to Gary at TFI Wetsuit Repair. He was very professional and suggested some good repair ideas. After sending the wetsuit in it was fitted with arm and leg zippers perfectly and fits extremely well now. I was very pleased with their service and can recommend TFI Wetsuit Repair without reservation.

Highly recommend the Fitting Image! Recently had two bridesmaid dresses altered here and they did a fantastic job. One was bit complicated because it had lace and a liner, but it was only $ 40 for them to take it in on both sides.
The ladies are kind and good humored. They’ve got a little that runs around in there and fresh muffins or cookies for you to snack on!

I had this big fur vest altered here that I wasn’t sure could get hemmed but they were able to do the job! What I liked best is that they understood it wasn’t the most fancy vest and agreed with my opinion that I wouldn’t think it was worth it to pay for a $ 30 alteration. So, the woman said she could do it a certain way that would work but would only cost $ 21. Alteration place that is great AND able to work in my budget decently. 5 star for me! And it turned out great!
