Best customer service ever! I called, they helped, they fixed, and I’ll be back! Bring your sewing machines here! They even carried my repaired sewing machine out to my car! So sweet! Very reasonable too! $ 59 for same day service!

My Hoover Steam Vac reservoir was damaged. I thought I would have to order one online. Decided to visit A-​1 and wouldn’t you know Oscar has the exact reservoir in stock and his price was competitive with what I found online.
From the outside, this place doesn’t look like much. Inside, he has a large inventory. I can’t imagine going anywhere else for my vacuum needs.

Such awesome and friendly service. Honestly I wish my vacuum cleaner would break down more often so I could give more money to this excellent local business!

From the first call to picking up our vacuum, we received such friendly and wonderful service! Our friends are amazing and gave us their mini Dyson after they moved so we took it in to get serviced, cleaned, filters changed and the rotating brush part fixed/​replaced. The total for the servicing and cleaning was $ 24.99 and with parts and repair, the grand total came to $ 69. The vacuum came back clean, suction working WAY better, with new parts and it only took a couple of days! Will definitely be using their services again! :)

I have been in this shop twice now and both times I was very impressed and satisfied. The first visit was for a tune up/​maintenance of my Dyson vacuum. The service was completed quickly and the price was very reasonable. I was in the shop again today for a clogged vacuum. The gentlemen working told me, «no problem, come back and get it in 45 minutes». When I returned my vacuum was waiting and he said that he wasn’t going to charge me for unclogging the vacuum. Such great customer service, I will definitely be returning should my vacuum need anything else, as well as, recommend A1 Sewing and Vacuum to anyone looking for a reputable repair/​service shop!

I have read peoples reviews here and decided to try this place out to fix my sewing machine. I called and the guy was nice and estimated the price for repairing my Janome machine. Dropped it off and said that the repairs will be done the same day. Perfect!
Later got a call said the previous job for some ladies vacuum is taking a bit longer than expects but can pick it up the following day. I went back and tested the machine looks like it was working! Well so I thought…
The bobbin was not catching the thread.
So I called and told him the issue and he said to bring the machine back and he’ll fix it. I figure to ask since I was arriving to get the Janome if he works on embroidery machines since our Brothers had trouble looping, he said yes.
Again I came in and tested the Janome and was able to zig zag and catch the thread as it should right? Came back home and immediately stopped catching the thread and as for my brothers embroidery he charged me for repairs however I left him with a screw I had removed on the top of the machine to look in the gears to my surprise found it still in the same zip lock bag I gave him just tucked under the hood of the machine. I’m very disappointed after taking my time of work to find that nothing has been really solved and will give this place a one star. Customer service seems nice but my machines can’t speak for themselves so a warning if you have a machine that needs fixing would recommend looking some where else. I plan on going back and asking two options. one to fix my machine properly or two to get my money back

Followed the recommendation of fellow Unilocalers and took my vacuum here for repairs as they are open on the weekend and my regular go to place in Carlsbad is not. Not a good experience, actually one of the worst experiences to date. Vacuum head was running on floor mode but not on carpet mode. Explained that to Angel and he said no problem, he would call back the next day with an estimate and if he couldn’t repair it, we could trade it in for a new vacuum cleaner — suspicious feeling already… Three days later I get a call saying the hose is broken (?) and the clip to lock the canister door needs to be replaced (no mention of the broken vacuum head) and that it would cost $ 129 to fix, but they will happily trade it in for a new Sebo for $ 700! A couple of days later, I went to pick up the vacuum and Oscar didn’t want to give it back? I finally got pretty frustrated and had to demand my vacuum back! I take it home and discover what looks like a razor cut to the hose at the attachment point on the canister that wasn’t there when I brought it in and at that point the head is not working at all. I called A-​1 for an explanation and never got a call back. Is this what a business with 4.5 stars on Unilocal does? Is that what any reputable business that wants to stay in business does? I took the vacuum to my regular go to place in Carlsbad on a weekday and they diagnosed that the hose was indeed broken and would cost over $ 100 to replace in addition to the broken head module! My problem has now been compounded and guess what: it’s no longer worth repairing the vacuum. Very upset and feeling completely ripped off. Quite literally! To A-1’s credit, they didn’t charge me for their estimate but I would have been better off not going there at all.

I can’t see how anyone can give this business anything short of 5 stars.
In the case of Valerie S. a lot of times repair people will stay things like that «its 180 degrees off» so they can charge you more. Especially if you aren’t even there…
Anyway. I stumbled in here once with a broken vacuum belt and for some reason that day I loathed the idea of going to Walmart. So I stopped in, easy! and cheap! I noticed all the sewing goodies and vacuums and parts so I thought I would be back.
Although its not often I have needed to stop, I have several times in the last few years. (sometimes I think just to chat up the cute little man who owns it)
The next stop was to rent a carpet cleaner. I noticed they rent them. They are the same price (if not a couple bucks less) then at the grocery store. But they are AMAZING! They are nothing like the ones at the grocery store. At the grocery store they just shoot water into your carpet and then suck it back up. These actually have bushes and scrub the carpet! I have said I will do that every six months now it was so easy and worked so well!
The next couple trips have been about my antique Singer sewing machine. I am a sewing newbie and didn’t even know how to thread the darn thing. I have brought it in a couple times just to ask him «whats goin on?» the owner is always super polite and willing to help me and sometimes it needs service (never more then $ 10) sometimes I just don’t have a setting turned correctly so he shows me how to adjust it at no cost.
Love giving this sweet man my business and love supporting a local shop in my neighborhood. Will be back! Thank you for all that you do!

We had a Dyson animal vacuum which stopped spinning. Being the type A (ok only sometimes) that I am, I go crazy when our vacuum does not work and the carpet needs love. I called Dyson customer service and they referred us to A-​1 as one of the approved Dyson repair centers.
Within a short amount of time, he called me to say the vacuum is ready and he replaced the belt. It was under warranty so thankfully all taken care of. I am once again a happy girl and so is my beautiful white carpet. ;)

Excellent customer service and great prices. They even carry your vacuum out to your vehicle!

Finally — a 5-​star review! No more Negative Nancy for me! I took my old Hoover upright in here for a new cord after being quoted $ 29 on the phone. I mentioned to Oscar that the self-​propelled function is no longer working and that maybe the belt is the problem. I had a new belt and a new drive belt that I turned over to him, and, sure enough, when I picked it up less than 24 hours later, he had installed both belts and the new cord and still kept the cost at $ 29. What a deal! And what a gentleman — he insisted on carrying the vacuum to my car! Vacuum now works perfectly, and I am blown away by his good old-​fashioned, speedy service and very reasonable prices. I thought this kind of shop was a thing of the past, and I’ve never been so happy to be wrong.

Talked to the owner at length about my vacuum cleaner. This guy knows his stuff. Repair and refurbished my old Dyson in a timely fashion.

What great customer service! I had a hoover vacuum that was still under warranty and without even finishing describing what was wrong, the man who helped me knew exactly what was needed to fix it. My vacuum was ready to be picked up 3 days later and the warranty covered the item that needed to be replaced. He even carried the vacuum to my car! If it’s even possible my vacuum seems to work better now than before I brought it in. Thank you for the rarely found excellent customer service.

This is a small shop where service is king!
Somewhat hard to find– on a street corner, located next to Cesar’s pizza (yes they are actually still in business). I keep coming back here because the owner is friendly, knowledgeable, gets the job done when promised. And the pricing is very reasonable. I’ve taken my vacuum and a couple carpet cleaning machines here. The first carpet cleaner got a cracked frame and he was able to get it replaced under warranty.
Will continue to come here to keep my vacuum in great shape.

I start the review with my bad experience, and end up with the 5 star because of how they made it right. I came in for a power cord replacement on my old vacuum. They were courteous, made the repair, quoted me a fair price ($ 40 including labor) and even helped me to my car with the vacuum.
Then I get home and the vacuum has ½ the power, something is not right. To make matters worse, the hyper-​expensive, 3 week old allergen HEPA vacuum bag has been replaced with a cheap-​ass bottom shelf bag. I wasn’t happy about that, so I called the place and I think the owner is the one who answered.
He asked me to bring it in. he took it apart and discovered that one of his techs who had made the initial repair forgot to tighten a gasket somewhere, robbing the power. He fixed that free of charge, and replaced the crap bag with a HEPA bag without being told.
That was fantastic, and he didn’t charge anything for it.
A-​1 has earned a customer for life.

Good service. Honest. Pleasant to work with. Knowledgeable. We drive over 45 minutes to use this shop and will never trust another store to service our vacuums. People don’t realize the value of having a good service person to take care of your vacuum. Buy a good one and spend the money to maintain it. These are good people who are friendly and helpful. Don’t trust anyone else.
