History

Established in 1991.

General Millwork Supply, Inc. was established by owners, Tom and Wendy Duran and is located in the heart of San Marcos, California. The company was started during tough economic times at their one location and has weathered three recessionary periods this being the toughest of the three. They are «Celebrating 25 Years in Business» and attribute their success by planning and staying inside the lines on the guiding principles of the company’s core values. By staying the course on a solid business plan through reinvesting in the company, focusing on the health of the company’s relationships with suppliers and its professional customers has enabled them to thrive. These are some key reasons why General Millwork Supply was awarded the 2010 «Dealer of the Year» in Overall Excellence and Leadership in the Professional Market by Window & Door Magazine, Voted one of «San Diego’s Best» Window & Door Company by The UT San Diego Reader’s Poll for 2012 – 2015 & awarded «Best of Houzz 2014 & 2015.

The Durans moved from the East to the West Coast over 20 years ago. Tom took the experience he built in the window & door industry since college in 1977 to start his own company. He managed a branch location of a large lumber company specializing in windows & doors on the East Coast and was confident that he learned well from his mentors to run a successful business. He took time to learn the local marketplace and his West Coast clientele. He developed a business plan, mission statement & marketing strategy while looking for locations to open his own business. When he started General Millwork in 1991, he pulled on his past experiences to shape how he would present his company to professionals in his area. He learned well from experienced business people & used much of that expertise with a local support system to benefit his business today. Wendy’s background is in Graphic & Interior Design, Business & Marketing along with Customer Service to complement her husband to be a great team.
