My wife just went there. 20% to 40% off and the prices are still higher then Albertsons across the street! Place is a rip off. Bring back Vons and go back where you came from people!

This place is expensive and CREEPY. Have you ever seen the walking dead? Well if so I feel like I was Maggie and coming to raid this place because it was so quiet and empty when I walked in. I felt like a zombie was going to jump out and eat my face at any minute. Why would a grocery store be so quiet and empty unless it was terrible. Just my 2 cents. Carry on.

I have shopped at Vons before Haggens took over. I can see why after only a few months Haggens is closing. Since they first opened I saw very few customers inside the store. The prices are much higher than any other grocery store and the location for the store was poorly chosen. If they had done their research they would have found that the area does not contain the same people that live in La Jolla, Del Mar, or Solana Beach, which are areas that have upscale stores and people with higher incomes, although I think that even in these areas people would still find it hard to justify spending more on the same items they can get for less elsewhere. Starbucks inside the store is now closed, which now leaves the other Starbucks in the parking lot open, but it will mean many more people crowding into that one especially now school is back in session, the kids come here from the school across the street. I suggest going anywhere else, until a more affordable grocery store opens.

No wonder this place is closing! Granted, I went in during their closing process so I don’t really know what their fully stocked shelves look like but wow… the produce looks awful. The cashier didn’t really have any social skills(but then again, I wouldn’t either if I knew my days were numbered at my job through no fault of my own!). Found my items, paid, and left. No idea when they are finally closing but I won’t be back.

When they first opened, we wrote, «These folks are out-of-touch, and can’t possibly stay in business» with such crazy high prices. Today, about 90 days later, they’re «going out of business»(nice to see the crystal ball is still working). If you’re going to look for bargains, beware — Even at 20% off, many of the items we checked were still way over-priced(higher than their competitors regular prices), and we spotted a number of things that were well past their expiration dates(even canned goods).

I hear a lot of complaints about this grocery chain but truthfully I don’t see it there a little fish in a big pond I remember a similar situation in the past same thing happend to trader joes everyone was sceptical and doubtful and the only reason the picked up costumers was because of the strikes the issue is people don’t like change and haggens is a change personally they have a great selection of items so far and more coming having talked to the employees I mean have any of you actually talked to them they haven’t even had grand opening none of there isles have actually been reset yet and that resets have just started so far from the month they’ve be open I’ve seen tons of items coming in that tickle my fancy I think it’s nice not having silly bagging clerks annoy the crud out of me it’s a nice change of pace it’s nice to actually shop for once and not be stepping over other costumers there meat is awesome they let you sample anything you want just ask if a price was wrong they give it to you for a lower price it’s nice for once to walk into this store in the morning and not seeing all the disrespectful teenagers from the highschool stealing stuff and being rude to customers and employees Yea I’ve found a few out of codes but it’s nothing to piss and moan about like a spoiled child I just politely tell the employees you have some out of codes one empolyee thanked me and said next time you come back I’ll give you some for a cheaper price there haggen juice is amazing my point being is this store has potential and I hope things pick up for them for some people this store is just what we needed for others maybe not ps there local craft beers wines and booze are amazing also cool organic selections It doesn’t help that when they bought the stores from albertsons that albertsons gave them the wrong pricing plan hence the stupidly high prices but there doing there best to fix the issues I hear they have a plan rolling out shortly keep your heads up haggen employees I’ll continue to tell others to shop here

The place is devoid of customers and employees. The prices are higher than Vons and every other local market for items that I buy. Fortunately, the pharmacy does not appear to have been tampered with.

This was my first Haggen experience and it was pretty dismal. I’m not sure if it was the lighting, or the lack of people in this grocery store but it was so depressing shopping here. I’ve never been in a large store where there were no other patrons. For a split second I felt that I was living out the grocery store scene from Zombieland. I’ve read several negative Haggens reviews throughout the city. I just assumed that Haggen was switching to non-unioniized workers and most of the negative reviews were from them. Then I did some research and found that Haggen is still unionized. I’m scraping the bottom of the barrel here… — Milk was cheap. — Lots of samples in the bakery area. Though watch out the free Jalapeño cheese ones. They burn more like«ghost pepper» than Jalapeño. Thanks a lot you JERKS. Can a store based on high prices and low quality survive?

Actually I would’ve loved to of given this store 0 stars! I found lettuce in the store that had expired over 10 days before and there was not just one package but several. And for the most part I find the people in the store not very friendly. In addition the prices are higher. Why would anyone want to pay higher prices, without getting the freshest produce and the friendliest of staff. They say first impressions count, and my first second and third impression was that there are so many grocery stores in this area I certainly don’t need to shop at Haggan.

A lot of good things to say about Haggen. Just about everything at the deli counter is fantastic. All the salads taste great. The roast beef is out of this world and the best I have tasted anywhere. The wings made in the store and located in the refrigerated area some of the better ones I have tasted. There a lot of quality meats. The organic chicken is really good. I have not found the brand sold here available anywhere else. The organic fruits and vegetables are top quality. Especially the organic green lettuce which is as good as anywhere. I have tried a few of the Full Circle brand products and they all were good. A lot of packaged goods are reasonably priced when on sale.

We walked in and out of here yesterday. The prices are crazy! Everything is seemingly twice as expensive as Von’s or Albertsons. $ 4 a pound for grapes? $ 1 for one lemon? The store was empty in the middle of a Saturday so word must be getting out that this is not a good place to shop.

So the day they shut down Von’s and started converting to Haggen’s was highly annoying. There was nothing prominently placed that the store was closed for«remodeling» or anything. There were some things in the pkg lot that would indicate they were doing some work but not indicate they were closed. So I take my chances, unload all the children and walk inside. When I realized there were no little hand carried basket that is what clued me in that maybe they were closed. Then some dude walks up and«Um, we’re not open.». I firmly told him that they need to make that a little more apparent from the outside as it is annoying to get inside in the first place when they ARENOTOPEN. So now that the conversion has been complete for a while I thought I’d give them a whirl today. Sorely dissappointed with the incredibly overpriced products. Aside from the store brand whole milk, I didn’t see one thing that was similarly priced from when it was Von’s. Selection sucked, shelves were poorly stocked in many areas, and many things look just shoved wherever they fit on the shelf and not where they belonged. I don’t think a single employee spoke one word to me except to tell me my total. There are the same folks that were Von’s employees but they don’t seem to look as happy as when this was Von’s. WILLNOT be back. I will drive to another city to find a Von’s.

–10 stars. This place is horrible, overpriced, food is not fresh and selection is lacking. Even higher priced than Von’s, but poor quality. We went there shortly after grand opening and 4 of the fruit bins had rotting fruit in it. Meat selection looks poor. BRINGBACKVONS!

High prices and less variety appear to be the hallmarks of Haggens. We were disappointed at the higher prices for nearly everything we used to buy at Von’s. The employees also seem dispirited, and one even confessed to me that the prices were higher. We won’t be back.

I decided to try this grocery out as it is close to my home and it is a new store. I purchased a pound of lean ground beef and some buns for a barbeque. When I got home, I opened the beef package and the red fresh meat had ribbons of grey, clearly much older ground beef that had been blended into the fresh ground beef. I have heard of this practice at some stores before but had never encountered it in person. They take old ground beef that they did not sell and blend it in with fresh beef, wrap it in cellophane so it looks nice, just to up their profit margin… DISGUSTING. Good way to start out Haggen… I would expect this if this was cheap meat, but at almost 6 dollars a pound, I didnt expect this. Either way, there are several other markets in the area and I will continue to go there and avoid Haggen.
