I don’t like to vent on Unilocal,because I know some businesses have an off day and you can’t judge them based on one bad encounter. However, a culmination of experiences at MJ Flooring compels me to comment. I had some flooring installed that turned out to be highly susceptible to chipping. MJ Flooring pointed the finger at the manufacturer, who sent a representative out, but nothing was resolved. I sucked it up and took responsibility, I was forewarned by all the one star ratings on Unilocal and decided that their pricing outweighed the drawbacks. Looks like I’ll be replacing the flooring in about 3 – 4 years. A $ 4K lesson. I didn’t feel compelled to comment on Unilocal because I was warned. What broke the straw was that I ordered five extra boxes of flooring (which I paid for) and went to pick them up. Turns out the fork lift operator damaged a box (one piece was damaged and four were partially damaged). I asked to be credited $ 5 for the damage and they said I could just cut the damaged slat into pieces and use it for other sections in the flooring. Seriously! Customer Service is not a priority here. They damaged material that I paid for and I will just to have to suck it up. Way to run a business.

I purchased laminate flooring, granite countertop, travertine back-​splash and porcelain tiles all in one visit. Sales went fine, Jared listened and we came up with a good design.
I had 2 different installations — tile and floors. Both sub-​contractors were friendly enough, but the work was «eh» at best. I don’t have any real experience to compare but I found issues with both. The tile installers attempted to hide a crack\hole in a tile with grout. The flooring installers chipped walls, did the worst job re-​installing a toilet (it’s not even connected to the floor!!), pedestal sink is barely hanging on and my dryer vent wasn’t even taped back together.
My installations were done in June 2014. I have been calling and calling and calling for someone to come out and fix these items. Every time I call, I get the same answer; «the manager will call you back». I AM STILL WAITING! They have full payment for my work, so why bother assisting the customer!?? (rhetorical question of course).
The SD locations are not BBB affiliated, so this is the only place as of now that I can come to and warn new customers.
I will end the same way I began… BE WARNED! The «new» manager is no better than the old, considering HE WAS MY SALESMAN.

Jared, the new GM for MJ Flooring, is changing things for the better. I have been arguing with this company for over a year because they sold me carpet that wasn’t performing like I was promised.
FINALLY, MJ Flooring hired a new GM, who contacted me and actually followed through on replacing faulty carpet in 3 bedrooms. Now that they have the new GM, I would actually think about going back to them for future flooring needs. Thank you, Jared, for replacing my non-​performing carpet!

Buyer beware! The staff is unprofessional and when you start asking specific question about the manufacturer of the product, they won’t release the information. In addition, I was told it would take about 4 days to do an install on an empty place less than 1,000sf. Overall, very poor customer service. If this is the experience on the «sales» side when they are trying to make a deal, I can’t imagine what it is like once they get your money.

I probably wouldn’t have bought from here if I had read the reviews below. I didn’t have the worst experience ever or the best experience ever. I guess what is different between me and the other reviewers is we installed the flooring ourselves. I do have the same complaint as one person. we were told the flooring we were ordering was on sale because they had too much in stock, but when we purchased it, they said we chose the one that was not actually in stock. So we had planned on installing it that week and had to wait about 3 weeks before we got it. Then we picked it up ourselves and installed it ourselves to save some cash. It looks nice and we are overall happy at least.

I have purchased most of my flooring needs from this location and I’ve had a relatively good experience with them. They offer quality products at good prices and the customer service is personable, basically you work with one person from beginning to end to ensure that the work is completed to your satisfaction. However, I recommend that you only purchase flooring and install yourself.

I had the worst time with this business. promise after promise then nothing resolved. We ordered wood flooring that was in stock per our sales person and then when we ordered the wood they informed us they had to order it. That took 9 weeks and a lot of phone calls from me not them calling to see the status of our order.
We financed the job and they pulled the money the day after we ordered it and that’s against the law but they didn’t seem to mind. I contacted them when I got a bill in the mail from the finance company. We where charged a $ 25 late fee for wood we didn’t have. They didn’t fix that either.
Now the fun stuff. The installers did a great job installing the wood but they didn’t use the transition pieces between the tile and new wood floors. They butted the wood up to the tile and grouted in-​between which came out nice. I was charged for two of these pieces at $ 162. We ended up using the same white molding that they took off around and under the cabinets because the wrong color was ordered. We wanted white and they ordered the same color as the wood flooring. Didn’t catch that when we signed the contract. We where charged for the new molding at a total of $ 291. that’s was a grand total of $ 453 that they wouldn’t credit back to me or send me a check for the amount.
I don’t have either the molding or transition pieces that I paid for, they took them when the installers left after completing the job.
I would like my money back for the material that wasn’t installed but attempts have failed at this point. My guess is they re-​sell the items I paid for to the next customer and make a great profit time after time.
I bet I’m not the only customer they have pulled this scam on!

So, we ordered a specific tile (Ivory Select light), and 3 times the people come here with different tile, trying to pull a fast one on us. And one time, they even said they would give us an upgrade. YEAH RIGHT. Upgrade my… anyways, do not shop at this store. They try and trick you by bringing a tile that is similar to the one you picked, yet cheaper and/​or in stock. They are lazy and sneaky. Miles, do not reply to me. I don’t care what you have to say.

I never write any review on any business I purchased my products (online or offline) but the experience I had with these peoplse are very bad and I would like to inform potential buyer to have this information.
I’m so glad that I walked away from their shady business tatics.
They have a huge 70% OFF sale sign banner outside of their San Marcos store. I went in there 3 different time before the owner (Myles) gave me the price on the laminate that I like. Each different time the price of that laminate is different is because each sale person have their own made up price. Joel, Steve and another sale person I forgot the name.
So when I mentioned the price Myles gave me to this asshole sale rep Joel and he said he’ll honored it.
At the moment when I about to sign the contract and pay them the invoice few new clients walk in the store so I said to Joel why don’t you go help them because I just want to recalculate the footage and prices. As he
and other sale rep was talking to other clients right in front of me I overheard them saying there is NO SALE TAX if they write an order this weekend (Memorial Weekend ad they have). So I ask Joel why are you charging me Sale tax when you offer this to other clients. This is his reason «Myles giving me the cost of these products so therefore we can’t honored the No Sale Tax deal». So I walked away and they lost $ 4000 contract.
It was $ 1.89 for the Laminate (Myles quote), $.60 or $.80/​sqft (Joel quote) on the foam (Ikea selling it for $.12/​sqft, other rep Steve in this store quote me was $.30-.45/sqft), Stair nose molding is $ 89/​piece about 80″ long (Joel quote).
I found another store the owner and his sale rep are much more honest and genuine. They matched and beat the laminate sale price, the stair nose molding is $ 25/​piece NOT $ 89/​piece with the same manufacture company, quality.
My mesg to MJ flooring is don’t treat your customer like they are stupid, you will run your company to ground with these manipulate shady mind game. I hope Myles reading this and fire this asshole Joel guy, he know nothing about the product, price, flooring business. Also his customer service are very cutthroat as well.
My mesg to potential customer who want to redo their floor is. Shop around ALOT and don’t fall for their ad. It’s not alway what it seem, go with your guts and don’t let these sale people fool you.

My wife and I bough our house about a year ago and when we first moved in we made the worst decision of our lives by purchasing floor from MJ flooring in San Marcos. In fact I specifically waited this long to post a review given the unpleasant circumstances. EVERYONE I spoke with at this establishment obviously hated their job and had zero customer service skills. In addition to paying almost 5k for tile and carpet I PERSONALLY had to deal with the contractors directly and their lack of professionalism. Twice during the installation I came home to see them washing their hands off in the grass or smoking in the driveway and then seemingly «back to work» when I got there. Numerous amounts of energy drink cans would lay around the house or Wendy’s wrappers hanging out like my home was of little or no concern to them. When I complained to MJ flooring I wouldnt hardly ever have my calls returned and when I did i asked to speak to the owner (I was speaking to a woman who works there frequently) she had no intention of trying to resolve the issue or I’m assuming even tell the owner that I was trying to contact him. I was so upset and burnt out during the 4 week installation process that once everything was finally installed that I just sent them their check so I wouldn’t have to deal with them any more! Any time I hear that someone is getting new floor I always tell them that they shouldn’t go to MJ flooring.
