Since I work in the area, I frequent Jersey Mike’s and Mollie Stones whenever I crave a hearty sandwich(I completely skip Subway). This popped up on my radar and I was glad I gave it a try. Really solid lunch spot. Sandwiches are of high quality and are moderately sized. The bread is fresh baked and the veggies are crisp and plentiful. I can’t comment on the quality of the meat yet since i had the California BLT which was and 8⁄10. Their kouign amann do a disservice to this amazing pastry. It tastes no different than your average croissant and was dry and boring. I’ll definitely come back for the sandwiches though.

CARBSCARBSANDMORECARBS! You have to get the international, pesto, and garlic cheese breads. They will cut them into slices for you! They taste great on their own, but if you take it home and heat it up so the cheese melts(ohhmahhgard) it’s like cheese heaven in your mouth!

As a broke college kid I sustain myself on wonderful cheap bakery bread and goodies from cute little bakeries like this. But despite the nice, rustic displays, the bread is not worth the money. Even with my sad looking bank account, I would rather eat nothing but eggs than the bread from here again. To be fair I came in a bit later so I understand if the bread is on the dryer/staler side but if I have to start tearing away at the bread like an animal, then we have a problem. Besides the actual staleness, there were a lot of other issues with the items we bought and we bought a LOT. Starting with my friend’s crème brûlée. The custard portion was fine but the top part was literally soft. If you’ve never had crème brûlée before, the top is hard from the burnt sugar. You should be able to hear a nice crack when you break the top with a spoon. However they didn’t bother reheating the sugar when they gave it to her so basically there was a blob of wet cold sugar on top.(1⁄5) Next we have the chocolate ganache cake. The cake itself is fluffy but VERY dry. I had a piece from a whole cake that they just sliced while my friend had a slice that’s been sitting out. Both dry. The ganache part is very decadent but honestly it tasted more like cheap chocolate frosting but slightly richer than a proper ganache.(1.5÷5) Next was the saffron raisin twist. Probably one of the better of the items. Like every else dry and stale but the top part had a bit of the fresher buttery taste. But the rest was stale and tough to chew. The saffron taste is barely present and there were 5 raisins in the whole thing… Basically I had a crusty stale stick with a buttery crust and icing…(2⁄5) I don’t remember the name of the next pastry but it was also not very memorable. Same as everything else, dry and stale. There was a sugar crust at the bottom that was at least slightly crunchier than the crème brûlée crust. The worker told me there were pistachios inside. I only found two pistachios but I found a bonus raisin… Overall taste isn’t bad but nothing memorable(2.5÷5) Lastly I got a loaf of the cheese bread. Amazingly the only thing that wasn’t dry(at least on the inside) but despite the«various types of cheeses» the employee says they use, it just tasted like globs of fake cheese all clumped into small portions. The inside basically tastes like normal white bread(1.5÷5) I guess I didn’t need to go into so much detail over everything. Basically everything was dry/stale and bland and I don’t think coming a few hours earlier would’ve helped much. At least the area was clean and the service was fine. Everything looks really good but don’t be fooled…

Given how many decent reviews there were of this place, I was a little surprised to find that my croissant was stale and their tea was scorching, without any water available to cool it. I also had to ask for a napkin. Location is easy to find and they have a few tables in the back. If you wipe the crumbs off it’s not too bad.

Love the Caprese and avocado sandwich! Mediterranean vegetable soup is good, too. The prices are all very reasonable as well!

I ordered a simple birthday cake the day before. They admitted they don’t make the cakes, and have them sent to them. So I could order a chocolate or vanilla cake. Ordered chocolate, received vanilla. They didn’t even write happy birthday on it like I asked. Garbage.

I love their breads and everything. BUT most of the time when I go there there are little bugs and flies flying around the breads… I really don’t want to see them sit on my food so please do something about the flies or put your breads in a protected area like a glass or something!

If you don’t want to do sit down in the mall, this is a great place to pickup something quick and warm. Their pastries are good but not great.

My mom bought 3 chicken and avocado sandwiches today and it was so bad. We usually always order chicken and avocado sandwich for my family and it comes with a generous layer of lettuce and avocado. Today, however, all three of our sandwiches were so sad. We all only had one thin piece of lettuce and you could not even see the avocado in our sandwich. When we opened the layers to look for avocado there was a tiny half slice of avocado in our sandwiches. The sandwich just tasted like bread and chicken bleeeh gross! I have always loved their sandwiches but I don’t know what happened today, whether it was someone new making it or they pick who they want to make good sandwiches for, it really makes me think twice about going there anymore.

I can attest to the yumminess of their cranberry walnut and fig pecan loaves. It’s completely worth the splurge and to date is still the best fruit bread I’ve ever had. However, the sandwiches here are terrible. You’re much better off visiting Boudin’s or basically any other restaurant at Hillsdale Mall. The bread is quite hard(the crust in particular takes forever to chew) and there isn’t much in them. The meats are very obviously deli meat from the supermarket, and it just don’t taste like something worth 10 dollars. The portions are equally ridiculous. The sandwich is so small! Its about the size of once slice of white bread. I also tried their apple caramel muffin. It wasn’t the best, but it wasn’t the worst either. There was far less apple than I would have liked, but at least it wasn’t really dry or extremely sweet. The latte I ordered was too small for the price, but it tasted decent. My suggestion? Just stick to the breads and you’ll have a good experience.

One of my favorite bakeries especially since they’re in every mall. Pain de campagne is always delicious and the international cheese bread is a must try! Came in today for some soup and had their clam chowder is was alright tasted like it was from a can, but you get what you pay for it was only $ 5 and served with some fresh slices of bread. With that said I probably wouldn’t buy it again but the bread is always good.

It’s a place at the mall, so ya really don’t expect much. However, this is one of my favorite places to eat at Hillsdale Mall when it’s just necessary to regain strength during a shopping marathon :) You just need to know what to order. FIRSTOFF, get the pesto bread, sliced. If you just need a snack to munch on while walking around, this is THEBEST. Think small fluffy french bread roll with an indentation for cheese and pesto! It’s my favorite. If you’re really hungry, get two! Or get one of the pesto and one of the marinara. You won’t be disappointed, I promise. If you need something beyond just bread, their soup is also pretty good. I’ve gotten the tomato ravioli a few times and it fills that tomato soup craving. They also have the classic clam chowder if that’s how you’re feeling. Soup comes with some freshly-baked bread, so that’s a plus! I usually don’t get sandwiches from here. I’m personally not a big fan, but other people seem to enjoy them. Their bakery stuff is actually delicious though so they’re true to their name! The palmiers(butterfly cookies) are tasty, their croissants are decent, and I’ve seen people come into Andersen just to buy bread(not food), so stick with their strengths!

5 stars for the sandwich alone! So yummy! The clam chowder wasn’t the best though — not thick enough. But still tasty

A pretty good Andersen’s. Pastries and breads are baked fresh daily. When I used to wake up early, I would come every morning before any crowd develops. The sandwiches and soups are pretty good too. I usually find clam chowders far too salty at most restaurants and bakeries, such as Boudin. Dessert pastries are forgettable. So come for the bread and baked goods and sandwiches and soup. Customer service is ok. Facility is clean enough. Just wish there are more indoor seating as it could get pretty crowded in weekends.

I ordered my favorite chocolate ganache cake here a few months ago to serve at a celebratory dinner I was throwing and although the cake looked fabulous, the very bottom layer of the cake was completely dry. I can handle a little dryness but this was beyond acceptable. Everyone at the dinner had to push the bottom layer to the side and eat the top layers(which were actually not dry) but I was definitely a little embarrassed!

My boys love getting their pastries here. We usually get the Almond and Chocolate Croissants, Raspberry and cheese Danish, The cheese walnut bread and of course their sourdough. Their prices are reasonable and staff is nice.

Whenever I’m at the mall, I love coming to this place for pastries and desserts! They bread is really good. I like the herb ones or the cheese ones. The creamy french is really good(just baked bread with cream in between). My last trip I got the apple roll(which they had as a sample) and a slice of chocolate cake. YUM! The prices are pretty reasonable and most of the portions are perfect for a snack. Overall, if you want just a snack or something sweet while shopping.

I’m a HUGEFAN of Andersen Bakery. I’ve been to several locations and service is always on point — excellent! I come here for one thing and that one thing only is their special SAFFRONCINNAMONTWIST. I haven’t been able to find it elsewhere this good. They make it somewhat crunchy and somewhat moist inside and not overly sweet. I can’t explain it — you just have to try it. They do sell sandwiches with excellent selections of sourdough and french bread which by the way are excellent. I think they are a top notch ahead of the game from boudin where they’re consistent with their recipes. PS — park on the opposite(back side) of the mall and they are located a few doors from«Sees Candies» inside the mall, first door to your left. Cheers! :p

Very few things make me happier than a giant display of freshly baked breads and assorted baked goods. At Andersen’s Bakery, this is the first thing you see when you walk in *cues heavenly choir music* Andersen’s is a great place to stop whilst shopping at Hillsdale Mall. On my last visit, I had a Vanilla Latte with a slice of Cappuccino Cream Cake. The latte was average but the cake was just as moist, creamy and flavorful as it looks. Overall, it was a nice, sweet combo that gave me a much-needed energy boost for the intense Hillsdale browsing session that ensued :) In the past, I’ve tried the Creamy French, which is a long, thin loaf of French bread filled with a mildly sweet cream. Crisp on the outside, heavenly smooth on the inside. A very unique treat at Andersen’s! You also can’t go wrong with the Pesto Bread — a soft, toasted roll topped with cheese and basil pesto. Fantastic. Can’t wait to stop in at Andersen’s again. Next on my list to try: Pisano Bread, Chocolate Ganache Cake, and one of their many Café Sandwiches!
