New to the area and vehicle was smoking due to an oil leak.
Checked for oil leaks and found the valve covers gaskets at fault. Removed the engine valve covers and replaced the gaskets and grommets as needed. Performed all needed adjustments, torqued all bolts to factory specs, road tested the vehicle and re checked for leaks.
They called and confirmed the leak had been located and then were honest about they length of time it would take to repair. Also honored my AAA discount.

Our repair shop in San Mateo recently closed with the retirement of its owner. It can be difficult to search for a new repair shop after 20 years with the prior shop. However, the owner referred us to Big E. We have been there once to check on a small coolant leak. The service was timely, the problem was quickly solved, and the price was reasonable. I made an appointment and took my wife’s car in for a smog test last week… they recommend a 60,000 mile service as well (the car has 63,000 mile or so…)
Got it back the same day even with the extra work… they are fast, do the right stuff…
I completely trust them… (and I do not trust easily)

I can’t speak for their technical prowess because my car is an older Toyota Corolla — the car I think mechanics must practice on in mechanic school. Everyone should know how to do the Corolla. However, I can attest to their excellent business practices.
I had my car smogged (Smaug’d?) here a few months ago. I called ahead and they got me in without an appointment. At that time I got a quote for a major tune up, and it was a reasonable price. But I’m a busy and sometimes forgetful person, and I didn’t bring my car back in for that tune up until many weeks later. Walter honored the original quote.
What I like about Big E is that they communicate with you throughout the process, everything is up-​front and clear, and they are pleasant to work with. Would definitely recommend to a friend.

After Unilocaling in favor of my current repair location, I would be remiss if I did not give a mighty shout out to Big E Automotive. They only kept my elderly Ford Exploder alive and well for the better part of a decade. Kieran, Walter, and ze gang rate mad high on niceness, honesty, and efficiency. My beloved Hank provided all sorts of challenges, and all were handled with alacrity by Big E. Foreign, domestic, something in between – Big E Automotive is all over it. Oh yes, the receipts state «where friends recommend friends», and it’s true. A friend sent me their way and I’ve been more than pleased to send more too.

Just went for an oil change this morning and the service was terrific. Very easy to make an appointment, took my car right in when I came for the appointment, and started working on my car immediately. They were very friendly and accommodating. The oil change took about 35 minutes and they called me the second it was done (I was having a cup of coffee around the corner). They even figured out how to turn the manufacturer service light off, which the dealership informed me that only they could do (and they charge 3x as much!). Reasonable prices, great and fast service, and very respectful/​appreciative of their customers and their time. We will definitely be back. Be sure to mention that you are a AAA member to get 10% off.

This shop was recommended to me by another trusted mechanic. They did not disappoint. It was quick (I made an appointment and did not have to wait when I got there), painless and priced right. No hidden fees or unnecessary stress. No one came up with something silly that needed «repair» which is something I’ve had to deal with before. This shop is honest which is refreshing. Great experience over all — will definitely be back!

They were able to fit me in that day for an oil change and to replace a headlight. The guy that I talked to there was very friendly. I waited at a coffee shop nearby while they were working on it. Took a little longer than expected, but not a big deal. Overall, I was happy with the service.

Amazing!
Lets start with what was wrong with my car– the lights under my headlights have both fallen out and on one side it completely ripped the cords out causing the headlight on that side to no longer work (it fell out while I was driving on the freeway so there was really nothing I could do to save it) :(My poor car!
My mom and step-​dad have been going to Big E’s for years and are very set on my car being in perfect condition so as soon as they found out about the lights they made this appointment for me to go get it fixed. Tuesdays I have half the day off of work so they made the appointment for a Tuesday morning at 8am. It’s my only day to sleep in & so when my alarm went off that morning I fought with myself for half an hour about getting out of bed & going. I called to let them know I was going to be half an hour late and it was no problem! They’d see me when I got there.
Half an hour late I arrive and am instantly helped, he looks at my car, tells me he’ll need to order the parts but they should come around 10:30 and they were willing to have my car ready by 1:00 so I could get to work on time! I know plenty of other places would say too bad we need more time. However, I felt bad since I was late I didn’t want to force them to rush because I couldn’t make it on time. And so I told him I would bring my car back another day if that was better– he scheduled the appt for Friday at 9 («so I’d have time to sleep in»). Almost forgot, while I was waiting for the gentlemen helping me to look up the parts in his office another took the time to have a conversation with me while he was working.
Anyways, the price was fair and they’ve done an amazing job with my parents car in the past! I’ll have to edit this on Friday when I bring my car.
They have such good customer service I just couldn’t pass up Unilocaling about it, even if it is pre-​mature.
