Charles Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy

The crew here are really great, i work on this side of the bay once a week and they invited me in to their 11 class since i was on my lunch. Very precise teaching and fun rolling with one of the instructors, other white belts and a purple belt. Im comin back for sure when i can!

All I need to say to my boy is «Don’t make me tell coach Cris about this behavior» and he does exactly what I want immediately. Every MOM needs that! :)

You can’t do any better. The Charles Gracie network of academies means that several different black belts show up to help train. Cristiano is the head professor and he does a great job. Over the last several years I have seen more shy and timid kids begin, only to become confident leaders. Kids who are either bullied or just lack self confidence truly learn the values of hard work, discipline, and respect.
There are also numerous instructors for the kids classes so that your kid can get a lot more personal attention. Whether you kid is new or coming from somewhere else, an athlete or not, they will find a home here.
For the adults, there are a variety of experienced instructors. With each instructor comes their perspective, which means a lot of details. They offer numerous seminars with other high level black belts from around the world, both Gi and No Gi classes, MMA, yoga… it is all here. I also see a lot more women enrolled. Like I said in the beginning… you can’t do any better.

In today’s world, I think the worst thing you can do for your kid (s) is providing them with a false sense of confidence and security. The truth is that the real world does not reward good intentions and effort alone — it only rewards tangible results and performance. I contend that the sooner kids learn this, the sooner they will take failures (which are inevitable) and turn them into lessons and learning. They will not become complacent — but instead, continue to seek to improve, and find ways to accomplish those goals. What better gift to give your child than preparing them for the realities of what’s to come?
Having my son in the San Mateo Charles Gracie Academy under Cristiano Xavier for the last 4 – 5 years (he is almost 9 years old now), has been an invaluable supplement in helping him develop the right skills and habits. In that time, I have seen my son: conquer fears, deal with failures, confront real challenges, understand that promotions and rewards are EARNED, acquire actual skills, develop a true sense of respect, operate in a structured environment, and most of all, not just learn … but learn HOW to learn. I have seen my son slowly transform from a shy, insecure, fearful boy, into a boy that now has tangible skills that has earned him confidence. He has truly adopted the thinking ‘I NEVER LOSE. Either I WIN, or I LEARN’.
The coaching staff under Cristiano is not just effective, but each one truly makes a personal investment into the development of each and every student. They are demanding, they challenge, they discipline … but yet, they are supportive and nurturing at the same time. Amazing staff … and I am happy to see that the staff has grown in numbers to keep the ratio of instructors/​students manageable and effective.
If you want your child to have a black belt in 2 – 3 years (i.e. Karate, Tae Kwon Do), this isn’t the place for you. If you want to reward them for ‘trying their best’ alone, this isn’t the place for you. If you want your child to grow up thinking they have skills that they actual don’t, this isn’t the place for you. If you want what I wanted for my son, then by all means … THIS IS THE RIGHT PLACE FOR YOU. There will be sweat, tears, defeat … all of which will build character. At the same time, there will be learning, accomplishments, and true camaraderie. I couldn’t be happier to see how my son has grown and developed.

This place is great! Everyone there is very friendly and staff is knowledgeable and great with kids! Our son mikey has been training there for over a year and coach chris is a really good trainer! He kmows hpw to teach, motivate and give confidence to his students. We really enjoy going here and watching our son big mike learn and grow! Great place for children and adults!

I trained at this gym for four months as an adult beginner in BJJ. Christiano was a great teacher. Several higher belts train at this gym, and they were all extremely supportive and helpful. I attended both gi and no-​gi classes and learned all sorts of amazing things to start me on my journey as a practitioner of Jiu-​JItsu, for which I am exceedingly grateful.

Ive been dong Jui Jitsu for about 8 years and 3 years under Christiano Xavier. My 9 year old daughter also trains at this academy and loves it. I love the people here. Its a very friendly and respectful atmosphere. Christiano is always there and really cares about the students. He keeps the place very clean. If you want learn this art this is a great academy for you.

Stay clear of this place. They charged me over 1k and sent me to collections and I never even used their facility. And now they won’t even return my cAlls.

I would give this establishment 20 stars if I could. My daughter started Jiu-​Jitsu about 4 weeks ago twice a week and she LOVES IT I mean LOVES IT! Christiano is an AMAZing instructor and he is super wonderful with the kids. He keeps the attention of the class and does not take any crap which I love. The classes teach your kids how to realistically defend themselves as well as getting some good ol fashioned cardio in the mix. The place is super super clean and I have never even seen an ounce of dirt on the floor. I am so glad our family found this gem within the 25^th avenues corridor.

I usually train at the Charles Gracie/​BAFA academy in Hayward, but recently had the privilege to attend a couple classes here. My first impression of the school is that the place is immaculate. Very clean and tidy, just how a Jiu Jitsu school should be. The instructors are pretty awesome! Cristiano is the head black belt instructor and is doing a great job leading the classes. He is thoroughly equipped with a ton of experience, which will motivate you to perform at your best.
The class is well structured with strength and conditioning, technique drills, and sparring. This is the perfect place to learn or evolve your Brazilian Jiu-​Jitsu or simply get a great workout. Straight family environment here with good vibes.
The San Mateo academy is great for men, women, and kids. I see a great variety of practitioners here both young and old, and it just shows how much Gracie Jiu-​Jitsu can change a person’s life for the better.
If you’re looking for authentic Gracie Jiu-​Jitsu, that will benefit you in both street defense or sport competition, look no further. Oss!

My son has been training here for a year now I love this place… Hi is 6 years old now, I totally recommend this place if you are interesting in teach your kids how to defend theirselves, discipline and confidence I really enjoy watching him taking the class… Coach Cristiano is the best!!! 2 ½ years later and still love this place 3÷26÷15

Wow! I took my young daughter here for her first lesson this weekend. Cristiano was AWESOME! He managed the kids quite well and was able to hold my daughter’s attention for most of the time. We’ll be back if I can convince my wife that teaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is appropriate our daughter.
Update: Woo hoo! We signed up. It’s a one year commitment.
