Harmony Frozen Yogurt

Totally forgot to review this… when Harmony first cropped up in San Carlos they were one of the first of the high end FroYo craze. Then they expanded to San Mateo and Burlingame. They’ve since shrunk again. What happened? Between them, Fraiche in PA and Harmony in PA, I think they’re definitely top 3. Sad to see they’re no longer close to my work

When I used to work at the business park across, I used to come here a lot. They offer you fat free organic froyo. They usually only have 2 or 3 choices and and they don’t have a lot of toppings, but the place is very good and convenient if you live or work closeby. Don’t forget to ask them for a frequent customer card!

This place is OK. But honestly, if a self-​serve froyo place opened up in the same plaza, this place would be out of business in an instant.
Overpriced for what it is. and when I went on the one day it was 103 degrees out, two of the froyo machines were broken and apparently so was the AC cuz it was HOT!
Lucky for them they have a monopoly on the froyo in the area!
3 stars for the 2 ppl working that afternoon for dealing with the broken machines and AC. AND for smiling, apologizing, and still managing to try and sell us ice cream instead of yogurt.

I love Harmony.
Most yogurt places have the exact same kind of yogurt, Yogurtoullie, Tuttimelon, Clear… hardly a difference just with different set up or something else in there. But Harmony Frozen Yogurt is a bit more tarty and frozen (but not ICEY), and mixed in a way that has a wonderful texture. Some people may not like that, but I LOVE it.
Recently some places have started to grab on a trend where they cut the damn fruit in half and throw it into the toppings bin. That’s just… no. I don’t like that. Sorry. Harmony still has them cut up into nice pieces that actually look like toppings. Yes.

Now that the froyo craze is dying down a little bit, it’s pretty clear that once you’ve tried one, you’ve pretty much tried them all. Sure Red Mango may be creamier, Yogurtouille may be self-​serve with a bunch of flavors – whatever. To me, froyo doesn’t offer the complexities of wine or fine cheese. In the end it’s just froyo.
The reason why I come back to Harmony is simply the location. And sometimes that’s worth more than gimmicks and designer tricks. Whole Foods is right across the street – great lunch time spot – and on those hot summer days when you want to knock down your core temperature a couple degrees, relief is right around the corner.
The menu is simple. The staff is friendly. If you’re in the area and want a simple and cool desert, this place is good as any.

I asked many, many people at the dogpark (there’s a dogpark directly behind this place) and every single one said that this yogurtplace was good.
I waited for the sun to come out and then hit the streets (I work in a cubicle). I grabbed my doggie and headed over for some frogurt.
I sampled the blackberry and the original plain tart. And my goodness, both were fabulous. I had half and half with strawberry and kiwi on top. I love love love frozen yogurt with fruit on top. I don’t even feel guilty about omitting my snack from my personal trainer. What did I eat at lunch today? Just a sandwich, I swear.
They charge an extra $.50 for every flavor other than original. They mix real fruit in, so it actually makes sense to charge extra.
Child’s size is the smallest, and it is the equivalent of a regular place’s small-​medium. How awesome. $ 4.00 for a child’s size with premium (as in, not plain) yogurt and two toppings. $ 3 for a child’s size with natural flavor and one topping.
Other reviewers have commented that the frogurt is too cold. I don’t know how frogurt can be too cold. This stuff is fine. I down it during my 15 minute daybreaks and have never experienced an ice cream headache. Others have also said that the consistency is too hard. It holds its shape in the cup but lets the spoon slide in with ease.
They offer a frequent buyer card (which I forgot to ask for the first time I was there but they gave me two stamps when I did remember, so it evened out) so after buying 10 yogurt cups, regardless of size or topping amount, you get a free small with two toppings.

I love this place! I tried the one in San Carlos some time ago and seem to like this one better. My favorite is the regular, but they have several flavors to choose from. I also really like how they have a child size in addition to small, med and large.
The location is nice too, great to take a stroll or go to while running errands or eating at the other stores in the vicinity. My kiddo loves coming here then looking at the water fountains nearby!

Sorry there is no way I am willing to take my kids to ice cream where they are playing Everlast’s Black Jesus.

You have to love them more because they cried to Unilocal,because I posted at both their locations. Though they messaged me and told me they had a commitment to this type of music.

if you find the left bank restaurant, harmony yogurt is across the divide and further up. it’s just a simple «harmony» on the wall. no hanging signs.

got medium with 3 toppings deal (5.75) mochi, mango, and strawberry all very fresh. blackberry tart and a little icy. flavorful but not overpowering.
yogurt bits:
–harmony is organic, made from straus organic yogurt (marin county), definitely different from creamier versions at most yogurt dispensaries.
–place is very clean and has sucking tubes running across the ceiling.

I didn’t have a choice really.
It was 80 F feeling like 90+ today.
Didn’t want Coldstone, and there’s no good authentic gelati, or Taiwanese shaved ice dessert place, or a Ten Ren Tea Station near me.
So we had to settle for froyo in da backyard.
Well I didn’t show up for the ⁴⁄₁₁ 50% off grand opening as I wrote in my first review, sorry to disappoint! But I was back here today.
No blueberry flavor, but they had mango.
And you can get a swirl twirl combo of mango AND blackberry, which turned out quite nice. The downside was that even a teeny tiny spoon gave me a brain freeze, so didn’t give me a happy ending. The original tart yo, however still had the best smooth natural yo aftertaste, unlike the BS served at many pseudo froyo type $hop$. No offense to those places, just not my bag.
And what’s this? Harmony is now serving FROYO SMOOTHIES!!!
Your flave of froyo plus either 1% milk or soymilk, or some other dairy substitute, and made with a banana plus fruit of your choice (if memory serves, blackberry, blueberry, strawberry, mango, and at least two to three others). The largest smoothie will run you around the $ 7 mark.
Didn’t try but maybe next time…

Disclaimer: I won’t be reviewing much more in the way of froyo, since I sizzuck at it, and will leave it to the more capable Froyo Girl, Lolia S. and her legion of froyo fanatics, many of them seem to be following a strict FROKINS diet, meaning eating only cupcakes and froyo 3 meals a day. Let me know how that works out.

Came here with friend to get an after Left Bank treat. We both ordered the tart with fruit toppings. The location is so clean and the service was great. The toppings were so fresh and delish!
I may have a new location for my lunch time runs! Amazingly yummy… and ORGANIC!
I am making it my goal in life to be a Yogurt Connoisseur … since the wine thing isn’t workout out too well.

Came for the Grand Opening where everything was pretty much 50% off!
I tried all 3 flavors (original, blackberry, and mango). I did enjoy all 3, but mango seemed to stand out to me. I asked and they said they flavor their froyo with fresh fruit which makes it all the more authentic-​tasting.
Overall the texture is kinda icy, the flavor more tart than Pinkberry and Red Mango, but there is still a creaminess that doesn’t belong to Yogurtland.
The fruit toppings were very ripe and fresh. They have lots of syrups and other liquid toppings which is nice (very similar to Culture in Palo Alto).
Seating area that can handle about 20 people with cute IKEA-​ish tables and chairs.
I really like this plaza with the Whole Foods, Left Bank, and everything. if I’m in the area, I’ll definitely stop by. Parking can be hit or miss if you want to try the street, but there’s also an underground garage near Left Bank.

I started my day with a cup of blackberry froyo at Harmony!
I went to their 50%off event this morning! Walked into the store and BOOM they’re right there! I ended up getting a small blackberry froyo ($ 1.50). The Deal was too BIG for me (medium size froyo with 3 toppings)!! I didn’t quite like the natural froyo. I actually couldn’t taste anything after eating the blackberry! ahahaha I only wished their froyo wasn’t so frozen. I know at other places they are very melted, but this was like rock solid. I couldn’t quite scoop into it. I was just scraping what I could. =\
It was really nice that they were giving out glass tea mugs with their logos on them!!! Yay!!! Their restroom is very clean and handicap accessible. I really like their interior color and furniture! All they need is a small tabletop water fountain next to their orchids! hehe Harmony is hidden in a apartment complex kind of setting and next door to a nail salon. But the Park Place shopping area is cute with a fountain and pond, bridge, and ducks in the center!
This place is worth 3.5 stars! :)

Let’s get the basics out of the way first — my yogurt was tasty — the Natural flavor was a bit more tart than I was expecting, but the toppings, particularly the raspberry sauce, were good.
I think it is a bit odd, however, to have anything organic (which I associate with earthiness and natural imperfection) sold in such a brutally sterile environment.
It’s one thing to knock back a Martini in a bar that is reminiscent of a jet-​age gate lounge: that creates the very appealing fantasy of progress and unlimited possibility.
It’s a little harder to sustain that fantasy when you’re ordering a medium frozen yogurt with kiwi and peanut butter cups.

I came here with some friends this past weekend… the weather was warm and sunny so it was a perfect day for some froyo. Of course it was my suggestion because I’m a froyo fanatic!
Anyways, my first impression of Harmony when I walked in was that it was very modern looking and clean like most other froyo places. It had an earthy feel to it which I really liked. The server guy greeted us right away and was ready to do his job!
The flavors they had were natural, mango, and blackberry. I had to get the mango since it’s one of my favorite fruits and topped with mochi of course (
). The prices ranged from $ 2 for a child size small to $ 5.25 for a large natural one (add 50 cents per size for other flavors) so it’s definitely easy on the wallet. The child size is NOT tiny either since that’s the one I ordered. FYI, I ate some of it before I took a picture. lol
The mango flavor was true to its name so I really enjoyed it! It’s organic too so that’s a plus in my book. The consistency was a bit too icy for me, it was more of a slush and I prefer the creamier version. It was still really cooling and satisfying though! I’m not in San Mateo all the time but won’t mind stopping in if I happen to be in the area.

Harmony Frozen Yogurt is a very clean space. The seats/​furnishings are geometric and cool, and the counters and floors– spotless and shiny. The boy and I enjoyed some fro-​yo, post Saturday morning workout. We each ordered an original tart with three toppings ($ 5 med, $ 4 small) and enjoyed it at the bar seats facing the window. With the sun in our faces, we saw couples with puppies, and several cute itty bitty toddlers that chased them.
Very nice location within the Archstone properties: walking distance to Whole Foods, and easy-​peasy free parking. Our new favorite place for a froyo fix.

I don’t frequent fro-​yo establishments but yesterday the weather was warm so I was in the mood for a cold refreshment. I had already been thinking of coming here after reading Lolia S. and Steve L.‘s reviews.
Upon entering, you walk right up to the counter where you can view the various toppings. I thought it was great how they split the healthy toppings (mango, kiwi, strawberries, etc) on the right, and the more guilty toppings (chocolate, cookies, syrups, etc) on the left. The menu and prices are displayed on the wall behind the counter. The décor and color scheme is a calming and almost spa like type of vibe. There are also several tables and chairs on the right of the store.
I ordered the Deal ($ 5), which is a medium natural tart with 3 toppings. For my toppings I choose mochi, mango, and strawberries. You can also opt for one of the flavored fro-yo’s (blackberry or blueberry) for an additional $ 0.50. The toppings were very fresh and my favorite was the mochi as they were chewy and sweet.
I don’t have a lot of experience with fro-​yo and honestly I’ve only had fro-​yo at Pinkberry, Clear Optometry, and Quickly so have not developed a palate for it. Nevertheless, even though the flavor is natural tart, it was neither tart nor tangy. It was actually smooth and sweet. IMO, Harmony fro-​yo is the best tasting out of the limited ones I’ve tried so 5 stars.

I don’t have much to add except that I’m a big fan of local businesses over corporate franchises. (I still can’t get over Red Mango opening a stone’s thrown from my neighborhood Harmony in San Carlos.) This is one of the few local shops in this pseudo-​downtown street adjunct to the Whole Foods complex.
For us folks that don’t go ga-​ga over frozen yogurt and the whole fro-​yo craze, nice that they have kid’s sizes. That way I can invest more in toppings.

They have $ 1 off Harmony coupons at the Peet’s across the street! (God, I love Harmony’s dark chocolate fudge).
AND they have $ 1 off Peet’s coupons at Harmony! (God, I love their chocolate cherry banana bread.)
Note: If you see a crazy Asian girl running to and from Peets and Harmony, you’ll know who it is…

Wow, I feel so special! I’m reviewer #4 of this place, and two behind Lolia S. Fro-​Yo Girl!
It’s Friday afternoon, and i have a little time before I picked up my daughter from school. Lolia S. gave me a heads up that Harmony was opening up a location near Whole Foods in San Mateo. With 5 restaurants, 2 coffee shops, and a supermarket, a place that served some sort of frozen goodies was needed. Also near Highway 101, which is great if you suddenly have craving for frozen yogurt, on the way to San Jose or to SF.
Inside, there are about 5 tables, an alcove next to a window, a bathroom, and a flat screen TV. As Lolia S. mentioned, the color scheme of this store is very eye pleasing and relaxing, which adds to one’s enjoyment of their yogurt. If the weather is nice, you can always take a stroll outside while eating their yogurt.
I ordered The Deal. For mine, I had Blackberry tart with mango, strawberry, and kiwi toppings. It’s $ 5 if you order one with natural tart, other wise it’s $ 5.50 for the other flavors. The blackberry tart wasn’t overly sweet, nor was it ear-​splitting tart. It had a right balance of blackberry taste and tart. There were bits of the blackberry skin mixed in the yogurt. Toppings were cut small, but were plentiful. (Sorry, no pics, left my phone in my car, and was too lazy to get it).
Rather than eating at a table or going outside, I sat by the little alcove by the window, propped my feet on top of an empty stool, and enjoyed my yogurt, while watching cars drive by in the dusky sun. What a way to end a Friday and start the weekend!
Although it was close to dinner, I decided to have my dessert before dinner.
