The San Mateo Urgent Care Center of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) provides high-​quality medical care promptly and compassionately to both children and adults. Our physicians and nurses work closely as a team to care for each patient. Appointments are not required. There is free wireless onsite and wait times are posted online. Palo Alto Medical Foundation’s Urgent Care Center team can treat medical issues that are not life-​threatening, but warrant prompt care (within 24 hours). PAMF’s San Mateo Urgent Care Center is open 365 days a year, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends and holidays. You do not need to be a PAMF patient to receive care. Upon arriving at the Urgent Care Center, you will sign in with the registration clerk so we may obtain the information necessary to care for you. Please bring your medical insurance card and valid identification (driver’s license or passport). As soon as an examination room is available, you will be called by a nurse who will take your vital signs and a brief medical history. A physician will then see you as soon as possible.

If your medical problem is not life-​threatening, but warrants prompt care (within 24 hours), the San Mateo Urgent Care Center is open 365 days a year, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends and holidays.

PAMF also has Urgent Care Centers in Fremont, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Santa Cruz, San Carlos and Scotts Valley.

Most unhelpful rude and disrespectful front desk staff I have ever been around. The way they treated me and others was like we were nothing and they had to go out of their way to do anything. Thanks for the worst experience I’ve ever had! Joy has to be the worst name for you. Thanks for nothing.

Just came here on a busy Thanksgiving weekend and was seen within 20 minutes. Everyone from checking me in to taking my vitals were really pleasant and attentive. I had the great fortune of seeing my primary doctor who happened to be on call so the whole visit was great. I am happy that this clinic is available on the weekends and they have a parking lot too for the patients. This has been one of the better experiences for an urgent care visit. Thanks to everyone there.

If I could give this place half a star, I would — NOT BECAUSE OF THE PROVIDERS, but because of their waits (which they do not communicate in a timely manner) and lack of customer service (front desk staff — having inappropriate conversations, laughing and speaking very loudly in an unprofessional tone, and completely dismissive of patients’ and their current states).
I was especially appalled by front desk clerk — Joy (didn’t catch a last name but will get this as I plan on dropping a note to her manager) — she very rudely and disrespectfully cuts you off when you speak, gives a ridiculous amount of attitude unnecessarily, and has no regard for anyone around her.

Will never return to this location. First impression the so-​called women at the front desk were rude and inappropriate making faces, laughing and rolling their eyes when I approached their desk. Hey at least make fun of me behind my back like normal children do. Total lack of respect. The waiting area had a few people but was otherwise empty. Then I got called immediately. The RN was very nice and pleasant, a far cry from the front desk. I waited in the room for some time only to have a doctor that was as rude and abrupt as could be. The visit ended with another nice and pleasant RN who gave me my discharge papers. The nurses provided some cushion for an otherwise horrible visit but I will never come back.

I frequent hospitals and urgent care facilities-​not by choice but due to my extremely active lifestyle. A surfboard fin to the foot took me into PAMF San Mateo. If you have a little booboo suck it up and diagnose/​treat it yourself because you will be waiting for ever at an Urgent Care. If you want to be in and out you have to be strategic about it. I informed the receptionist that I took a fin to the foot, stopped the bleeding finally, it was deep and it is best to get it looked at to determine if I need to be sent to the ER. Have you ever sat for an hour at an Urgent Care only to be told to go to the ER? I have and it is not fun. Within 5 minutes I was in being examined and the laceration was getting flushed. The head doc came in after another 5 minutes and walked me through everything in a collaborative way. We determined that I had no broken bones, no torn ligaments and I needed to be stitched up in house. pfew-​no expensive ER. 2 hours later I was on my way home with 19 stitches.

This is a nice urgent care center. All 3 of the physicians I have seen seemed competent and were pleasant to interact with. The nurses are super friendly and big into patient education. I have learned more about wound care at urgent care than I ever did from my primary care physicians!!!
Two out of three times I was seen within half an hour of my arrival. (That was on a Thursday morning and a Sunday afternoon.) One of the nurses said that Saturdays are the busiest day of the week.
–1 star: I wish they did more to prevent the spread of airborne diseases (e.g. hand coughing patients a face mask as soon as they walk through the door) and it’s a bit of a hassle to get ahold of your lab results.

Went to go in for a visit. Long wait, but as expected. I went in an hour before closing on a Friday night. It was very obvious that the nurses and front desk care. Not only with me, but seeing their interactions with others, it is evident that they enjoy what they do and are extremely patient. I then was sent onmy way with a rx. The pharmacy didn’t have it in stock and told me it would take 4 days. The urgent care was already closed at that point and I was desperate to have my rx changed. I drove back, reached someone, and they worked with me on calling in a new rx that I could get that evening. They could have easily sent me on my way telling me to call in the morning. I truly appreciate their care and assistance.

I agree with the other reviewers. This is NOT Urgent Care. I came here with symptoms of an ear infection. The wait time on the website said 45 minutes-​1. When I arrived, there were 5 people ahead of me. After waiting two hours, there were still 4 people ahead of me! Over the course of those two hours, other «emergencies» came in and were seen first. I ended up leaving without ever seeing anyone. I won’t be back.

After my appointment, my regular doctor asked me to get a copy of my labs that were taken at the urgent care center. Because she is not a member of PAMF, she couldn’t access them herself. I had to call the phone number for medical records, and leave a message asking them to call me back about how I could get a copy of my records. Not only was there an extremely long and detailed message on the medical records answering machine about how to order a copy of my labs, but the message also said that I would have to pay for them!!! I left a message with some questions, and no one ever called me back. I wound up asking another doctor of mine who is part of the Mills system to get the labs for me and fax them to my doctor.
Can you believe that I had to pay to get a copy of my own labs? And that my doctor couldn’t request them directly from PAMF, because she didn’t belong? Outrageous!

So it turns out I that I do have the flu. I am EXTREMELY disappointed with the care I received at PAMF. They did not even consider the flu as part of my 3-​minute evaluation, and they took up the critical window of time where I could have received a prescription to Tamiflu. When taken within the first 48 hours of symptoms, it reduces the severity and duration of the flu. Again, I would highly advise anyone to stay away from this place and seek urgent care elsewhere.
