Shaheen Oshtory, DO

Dr. Oshtory has been amazingly kind and knowledgeable during my visits with her. I have almost a type of Rosacea which had been misdiagnosed in the past. Thank you so much.

My initial visit with Dr. Oshtory was great. She was sweet and seemed very knowledgable about the skin condition I was dealing with that was driving me crazy and wouldn’t go away. The appointment was quick, less then 15 minutes and she gave me 3 prescriptions along with some samples to hold me over until I received them.
She urged me to order my prescriptions and start them as soon as possible. She said they shouldn’t cost more then $ 100 each and to call her if they are and she can find something else. They all totaled almost $ 500 so I called to let her know and I also had specific questions about each one and the usage.
It’s been almost 2 weeks since my visit, I’ve called her office and left probably 5 messages with the front desk and I haven’t received a SINGLE call back. Each time someone said they would let her know and get back to me. I’m not sure if the staff doesn’t relay messages to her or if she just doesn’t care to call back a concerned patient.
I’m very disappointed in her lack of proper communication and feel like she failed me as a doctor.
On a good note, I just went for a second opinion to Dr Schmidt out of Los Gatos (5 stars) who told me all those samples of medications she prescribed were completely unnecessary… I just need one antibiotic that cost less then $ 50.

She is extremely knowledgeable, respectful, warm, very helpful, professional and very friendly. I’ve seen many dermatologists over the years but Dr. Oshtory is only one I’ve liked. She is very caring and takes her time to answer all your questions. she has done good job with my scars and gave me confidence. I couldn’t ask for a better dermatologist.
I will highly recommend her!!!

Dr. Oshtory was extremely nice and very professional when she treated me. She made me feel comfortable and I never once felt embarrassed to bring up my condition to her. She was able to accommodate all my medical needs during my visits. I will definitely go see her again if I ever need the help of a dermatologist.

I took my young daughter to Dr. Oshtory for a small skin procedure. My daughter was terrified of the procedure and I was just as scared for her. Dr. Oshtory was great. She gave us the confidence that this was very small procedure and described what it would feel like. And my daughter was happy to report that the doctors description was spot on. We needed the doctor to be confident with their diagnosis and set appropriate expectations – and that is Dr. Oshtory. I intend to go back to her for future skin issues.

I have been to Dr. Oshtory several times for different skin problems. She is very knowledgable and right to the point. She can diagnose a problem right away and offer you the best advice and boom you are fixed! There is no lets try this cream for a few months and if it doesn’t work out lets try that! No, she offers the best and most efficient treatment! She is also very up to date and know about newest products which is important for skin products as there are always new changes. I also have a few friends who have seen her for cosmetic work on their faces. She has great hands, her work is amazing. One of my friends had fillers injected in several areas of her face, she had no bruising afterwards, she looked very natural and she didn’t need to repeat it for over a year! If I decide to get fillers, I will definitely see her!

For me, the most important aspect of a health care professional is that they can solve problems. Dr. Oshtory changed my life for the better when she helped diagnose a severe dermatology issue I was having. She is thoughtful about laying out all the different options, and being upfront about what she believes will work and what won’t. I used to be so embarrassed about my skin problems, but Dr. Oshtory quickly and efficiently helped me work through everything so that I could feel confident again.

I went to see her for a skin cancer check. Since I previously had cancer, I know that these need to be done carefully. I work at UCSF and am quite familiar with the guidelines for skin cancer checks — and she did not follow them. She did a cursory exam and didn’t even check my scalp — although I mentioned that my previous cancer had been in my scalp and that it had been missed several times. I won’t go back.

Her interpersonal communication could use some work. On my first (and last) visit she just walked in and started writing prescriptions; barely let me get a word in about my condition.

I went to Dr. Oshtory after reading so many good reviews. I had some white spots on my back for a while and wanted to see if anything could be done to get rid of them. I thought they might be treatable and not sun related.
She looked at my back for maybe 5 seconds and said nothing could be done they were sun damage and definitely nothing else.
Sad, I had a doctor friend look at my back as well. She said to use selson blue type shampoo twice a day and it is completely GONE after one month! I wasted my time going to this doctor

I am a current patient of Dr. Oshtory and my experience with her has been stellar. She is very knowledgeable and she takes time to answer my questions and listen to my concerns. I highly recommend her as her methods also yield great results. I am very satisfied!

I’ve been meaning to write this review for a couple of years now, and was recently reminded that she still practices Dermatology in the city. Her name came up in a conversation concerning a friends experience with her which mirrored my own with this unapolagetically rude doctor.
I came to her when I called to have a routine prescription refilled by another Dr. in her office, and was told that I would have to come in, since he was not in town and she would not OK my request, unless she physically could confirm that I was being treated with the correct medication. I reluctantly agreed to come in, because I needed the cream to stop a persistent and annoying skin condition which I was already being treated for and had found the correct medication to treat this. She would NOT write the
prescription for the medication I requested and instead told me that another cream would be more appropriate. The med was not on the formulary of my HMO and I paid about $ 200.00 for this supposed «miracle» cream. Not only did it make the condition worse, but I was out $ 200.00. On top of that, she did only cursury inspection of the area affected and even though I already knew what worked for me, she decided, during a 5 minute appt., that she knew better than me and was dismissive and rude during our lovely time together.
Have a Dermatolgical problem and want to be treated rudely and wrongly? She’s the one for you !! Have fun !!

I cannot recommend Dr. Oshtory enough. I’ve been dealing with adult acne for almost 5 years now and I am finally feeling confident about my skin again.
I have been to 4 different dermatologists before Dr. Oshtory. I’ve tried every prescription topical, acne antibiotic, peels, out there to no avail. My first appointment with Dr. Oshtory she quickly prescribed me a medication and now after only 3 months of starting on it, I’m able to go without wearing tons of face make up everyday.
Dr. Oshtory is incredibly professional, concise, and obviously knows what she’s doing. I can’t describe how relieved and happy I am after a very long and very expensive battle with my skin.

I actually went to this doctor based on her reviews on Unilocal.However, I am kind of disappointed.
For being a first time patient I was hoping she could spend some time listening to my concerns, but instead I felt rushed. Besides the 30min wait to fill out paper work, the entire consultation lasted about 5 minutes. I didn’t even have time to ask all the questions I wanted to ask.
She did not gave me much information about my problems, and just told I need some type of drug, she kind of just told me she was happy I was going to take the medicine she prescribed. The good thing is that she prescribed a medication that actually works, and I was pretty happy with it!
She might be a good doctor, but my experience there wasn’t the best.

Despite the good reviews from others, I am utterly disappointed and dissatisfied by my visit with Dr. Oshtory.
Similar experience with the people who wrote dissatisfied reviews, I should have took their advice to stay away because now I’m charged $ 160 for a visit that was less than 5 minutes and left me just appalled by the entire experience of going into a doctors office.
AND when I tried to call the office for questions of billing. It took an entire week for them to call me back after I called them 3 diff days (plus having to be redirected to different offices)!
If you want someone who is going to take time and actually care for your problems, thoroughly examine and not be arrogant or make you feel like she’s in a rush to move on someone «better», DO NOT GO TO DR. OSHTORY.
If you’re someone who wants a quick fix and be thrown potent dosages of medication without understanding and knowledge to why a particular brand+level of steriod, w/​o knowing side effects, w/​o suggestions to any alternatives except a slightly lower dosage. the same sort of medication, all of which you should use with caution. then. this is your girl.
I left the office feeling even more uncomfortable with my symptoms, when you go to a doctor to seek clarity. I came here because I was worried about my recently, sporadic outbreak of hives and my skin. and I clearly told her that was my concern. Not once did she address this issue, instead she just pushing a steroid on me for another issue!
I asked her if there were any recommendations of food to avoid or have more of because I am breaking out in hives, nope. She nonchalantly and arrogantly said «less than 10% of allergies are from food». Really, so Hippocrates theory of ‘food is medicine’ is irrelevant to this situation ??
On top is the office billing I’ve received, I had to then go to my General Practitioner, whom actually showed concern and suggested (without me asking) to take an allergy test.
From this experience, it further affirms that I will not be coming to Dr. Oshtory as I would be belittled and leave the office with prescriptions to medications that do not address the purpose of my visit.

I’m extremely busy during the day and there’s nothing I hate more than having to interrupt getting stuff done to go do something personal like see a doctor or dermatologist. If you’re like me Shaheen is perfect!
Shaheen did an awesome job at being fast, efficient and charming. Across two visits I think I waited a total of 2 mins.
My only complaint is that I wish she provided dentist and financial planning services so I could go to her for those as well. :-)

I’ve researched all over Unilocal in the Peninsula and SF for a good dermatoligist who dealt with keloids and has had success. Let me tell you, it was so hard to find! I luckily came across Dr. Oshtory’s Unilocal.I’ve been to all three of her office locations, Sacramento St, 450 Sutter (most of my visits were here), & this Webster location for the last few treatments. I have suffered from keloids since high school and have always been asked what happened and treated like a weirdo just because of them. You have no idea how many strangers have stared & asked me what they were even though it’s so none of their business; you think it was like I had a third arm or something! They’re a little unsightly and can get itchy, but not life threating or totally repulsing.
Dr. Oshtory specializes in keloids and always keeps up with the latest research in these. Many doctors tend to shy away from them because they are tricky and can come back. I have been getting injections to have them flatten out by her and for the past few months I’ve also had several laser treatments to help lighten them up. My friends & I have seen the major improvements that have occured in the almost past year. I recently got my third and what I told myself last laser treatment and cannot say anything but good things about Dr. Oshtory. She also doesn’t put on any pressure to do anything you don’t want to do; she even made sure of it several times if I wanted to go through with the laser treatments (not covered by insurance). I highly recommend her if you have keloids or if you are just trying to find a great dermatolgist for any of your skin concerns.

She is very helpful, very professional, and knowledgeable about skin issues.
She is always on time and available last minute.
She is very caring and takes her time to answer all your questions and concerns.

DR. OSHTORY is amazing.
I’m 19 and i had keyloids since I was 13 and been going place to place trying to find ways to get rid of them and my doctor from NEMS recommended her. I love her so much she is so smart, when I first visit her she gave me something for my dry skin and it really helps told me to put cotton and duct tape over my keyloid as much as I can and it is working I wake up to flatter keyloids and she gives me shots for my keyloids once a month and some are completely flat now! I’m such a happy camper!
AND she is pretty too!!!

Highly recommend! I’ve seen many dermatologists over the years and Dr. Oshtory is only the second I’ve liked (the other was in Ohio).
I could easily fill this review with tales of woe from prior derms where it took six months to get an appointment, and then I was rushed through, prescribed antibiotics to take for the rest of my life (not an ideal solution), and was convinced to stop using treatments that I liked and start new, more expensive treatments that ended up doing little to help.
Dr. Oshtory is not like that. I’ve been seeing her for over a year to treat keloids (raised scars) on my chest, and she’s been doing a phenomenal job. First, it was relatively easy to get an appointment, then she took the time to listen to my history of treatments, and presented a few options and gave me time to think about them. She’s also been very clear and thorough about after care, which many doctors rush through even after care is so essential.
Without going into too much detail about my particular issue, let’s just say that Dr. Oshtory took a long-​term view and a cautious approach, which I really appreciated because keloids can easily get worse — you just never know how one is going to react. She also shared information about the latest research on keloids, which made me feel even more confident about her knowledge. Based on recent findings, we ended up making slight adjustments to the treatment plan, and the results have been very positive.
In terms of office location, she has two offices, which is pretty convenient. (She may also have two Unilocal listings, just FYI.) Also, she’s not downtown, which I tend to see as a bonus because it means she’s not beholden to paying exorbitant rent.
I think I originally found Dr. Oshtory via my insurance (United Healthcare), and decided to book an appointment based on her awesome Unilocal reviews, so I’m glad to finally be paying it forward to future patients by giving you yet-​another five star review. Definitely book with Dr. Oshtory in general, and especially if you’re seeking treatment for keloids or other scarring. I’ve been around the block when it comes to dermatologists and she is at the top of the list!

I was actually a little surprised by my visit with Dr. Oshtory. I don’t know if it’s because I have a baby face or that she was judging my sunburned nose, but I found her manner a little bit abrasive and condescending. I told her that I had noticed some changes in some moles and I know that’s a supposed warning sign. She told me they were fine and that it would be way too difficult to explain to me why but just TRUST ME I’ve been doing this for five years. Oddly defensive. I didn’t really know what to say. She sat incredibly up close and personal even while we were just talking at the beginning and then, after scouring my body without warning with her little blue magnifier light, she handed me a prescription for the breakout on my back without any discussion of it.
And that was that.
I don’t have skin cancer though, so I guess that’s neat.
