Specialties
My goal is to keep you, as the patient, informed and involved in the care of your eyes. Annual comprehensive eye exams are essential for monitoring current vision and ocular health as well as preventing serious eye diseases.
Although this is my core philosophy, I work to make this place a stress-free environment for
— fitting even difficult contact lenses
— providing fashion with a timeless style
— accuracy in diagnosis
— accuracy in glasses and contact lens orders
History
Established in 2013.
This office in San Mateo was started following an amicable dissolution of a previous optometric partnership in the Laurelwood Shopping Center. In starting this new optometry office, I wanted to express more creativity with both his glasses offerings and office design. The office is visually interesting for its bolder use of color and open space. Care was taken, however, not to fall into the trappings of trendiness that may wane with time.
With the changes in décor, much effort was expended to maintain careful and thoughtful eye examinations as the core philosophy.
The office has grown well thanks to the support of our patients, family and friends. Dr. Anifa Avakian is a recent addition to our staff. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience. She has been a wonderful fit, and looks forward to helping you with your vision care.
Meet the Business Owner
Walter W.
Business Owner
Since my 1993 graduation from UC Berkeley’s School of Optometry, I have worked in the Bay Area in private practice and in various capacities for the optometric community. My last venture was as a founding partner in Laurelwood Optometry. Following an amicable dissolution of his partnership in Laurelwood Optometry, I relocated to the Parkside Plaza of San Mateo into a redesigned office.
My experience includes work as a Clinical Skills Examiner for the National Board of Optometry and as a Clinical Instructor for the School of Optometry where I still teach once a week.
My skills include accurate prescriptions, fitting hard-to-fit contact lenses, and disease detection and treatment. More importantly, I enjoy talking with patients. I take time to listen and answer questions.
