Applebaum Bakery

I went to the Hayward Farmer’s Market and was curious about the Applebaum bakery compared to another bakery. So I saw the cookies — they are soft and moist — I can tell by their visual appearance. All of their baked goods are made from scratch and organic. The owner and baker was really nice and was opening his shop — I came in a little bit early — so I was interested on the oat bars. I tried the date bar and it was an excellent dessert. It is best eaten with either coffee, tea or cold/​or hot water.
The streusel topping has just the right of sweetness, and can taste the date paste. Yummy… next time I am going to buy the other flavors of the bars and other baked goods.
Joe showed me the menu of whatever baked goods and showed where his stalls can be found. Most of from San Rafael, Clement, some in San Francisco and one in Hayward. The closest one so far is Hayward… so will definitely go here again to try other baked goods. He was super nice and so accomodating if you have any questions — great baker too. He can also take orders on cakes.
But on the farmer’s market — he sells his cookies, oat bars, brownies and other baked goods.

Joe (Joseph Applebaum, owner/​baker) is personable, easy-​going and talented as both a baker and farmers’ market vendor. Friendly, ready to make deals for quantity, give samples, talk about recipes and market rates for ingredients all while providing incredibly well-​made cookies, «bars,» nut brittles, cakes and cookies. Check for them at their stalls or stores! Well worth a trip!

Applebaum Bakery is a wonderful local business with high quality products. The cookies and scones are beautiful, but what I want to rave about are the cakes. I just purchased two devils food cakes for a graduation party, and my oh my were they good! With butter, chocolate, a touch of coffee, they were dense and beautiful. I had set them aside at the party while lunch was being served, and people were smelling the chocolate and asking for cake. Thank you so much to Joe Applebaum for helping me out, especially on a tight schedule!
They have a stand at the SR farmers market on Thursdays, so I highly recommend that you try them out! I will certainly be back.

How do I love thee Applebaums’ Bakery? Let me count the ways: The lemon bars are one sweet/​slightly tart delight, with a shortbread like crust to die for. The Apple crumb bar is too delicious to be legal-​with sweet apple in the middle and a fantastic old fashioned crumble on the top. Can’t wait to try the apricot version which was sold out at Marinwood Market last time. The molasses cookies are a constant at my house. These flavorful delights are moist and chewy and pack in the flavor. If I want to get some for myself I have to buy an extra package. The date bars are a delightful use of a long under-​appreciated fruit. Just the right amount of sweet with a delicate crunchy surround– this item is breakfast worthy. (I’ve done it don’t tell Mom ;) I can’t wait until this baker’s products are in Mollie Stones too because they sell out way to fast at my local store.

Love the lemon bars! And the date bars. And the guys that work here seem pretty cool. We picked up our goodies at the bakery in the Canal neighborhood, as we had a Living Social voucher. We were a little disappointed in the brownie but I guess I don’t always have to go for chocolate. Gonna look for them at the SR Farmers Market.

Lemon bars are delicious! Usually when I buy lemon bars they are toooo tarty but these were really good. I tried them at the farmers market. I will definitely be back to try more.

I had some time to kill at Stonestown Mall while waiting for my daughter to be dropped off. I saw there was a Farmer’s Market going on, so I thought I would go there to see what there was to be seen & take a picture or two. I wear tie dye all the time, and when I saw the tie dye tent that Applebaum had, I was strangely drawn to it. I saw that this nice young man was selling what appeared to be organic, baked goodies. He was wearing a tie dye, so I felt compelled to see what he was selling. It was like Christmas! He had cookies… not just one kind of cookie, but MANY kinds of cookies including my favorite, the Ginger Chew. I had to have one. My friend from Misouri was in the car waiting & I knew she loved lemon bars, so when I saw he had those too (along with lots of other delights!), I got her one. The nice young man, Dash I believe he said, asked if I like raspberries. I really don’t so I politely declined. He then asked if I liked apricots… I LOVE apricots, and it showed! He gave me a sample of his apricot bar and I swear I felt like I had died & gone to heaven!!! OMG! So, I bought one of those too. I brought all of them home & shared them with my teenage daughter & friend from Missouri, and we sat and moaned while we ate them! It was orgasmic!!! I will seek out & find more of these incredible goodies!!!

i just enjoyed one of applebaum’s lemon bars at the farmers market. almost as good as my mom’s lemon bars, and that’s saying a lot.
the guys selling the goods were super nice and now that i googled them and found out where they sell these treats, i will be eating a lot more lemon bars than was ever necessary.

First off, love the baker’s tie-​dye outfit with matching hat. But more importantly, the goods are good. Have tried a bunch of different things, but my favorites are the raspberry and lemon bars. Oh, but the cookies are great, too — in my many amateur attempts to bake cookies at home, I don’t know how Applebaum’s cookies always turn out consistently soft and moist.
I just found out that they have a full menu of other items that they don’t sell at the San Rafael farmer’s market; reading through the menu made my mouth water and thinking of the next birthday party I have to attend as an excuse to order stuff from them. In the meantime, I’m getting my fix every week at the market…
