Reliable Auto Mechanics

Oh my god, I cannot describe how grateful I am. I took my car to get routine (overdue) break pads done, and after doing a full inspection of my car, they let me know before doing any work on the car that turns out, I had a blown head gasket! They advised me to reassess my decision (since my car was kind of a piece of crap). They were so incredibly honest and didn’t charge me anything, filled my car with enough engine oil to get me home, and Trevor even offered to give my boyfriend and I a lift back home if the car ended up breaking down! They even told me of a car down the street for sale, and said that if I ended up looking at a used car to bring it by and they would check it out for me! This place is open till 9 pm which is incredibly helpful, and we came there around 7 pm and Trevor was just as friendly and awesome, despite them closing soon. He even called me to make sure we got home alright! I can’t think of any other mechanics who have been so kind and upfront. Once I have my next car, this is the first and only place I’m going.

I came in for an alignment after having new shocks, struts and tires put on. Troy was honest and fair, I thought I’d need a four wheel alignment for my 4wd 4Runner but upon arrival to pick up was informed it only needed the front two. I ended up paying $ 40 less than I expected. Honest, fair and RELIABLE.

It’s sad when I have to revise backwards. Almost never happens but this is the 2^nd time I feel like I got taken. First time we compromised. This time… I didn’t feel like arguing. 1. Asked the person giving estimate via phone how much shop rate was and was told that he didn’t know. Ummm. OK. Because every shop doesn’t have that posted. (They should but they don’t actually have a sign. he still should have known.) When I pointed out dealer estimated labor was $ 25.00 less I was met with silence followed by «do you want to authorize the repair?» Reliable had at least 3 opportunities to communicate and rectify things but I wasn’t going to take the extra time to move the car to the dealer.
Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on you.

Horrible company, they will take advantage of you in anyway that they can! They tell you things hoping that you don’t understand anything about your car. They charge you for parts and then don’t actually replace the part. Phill will do nothing but threaten things because you sign something when you pay BEFORE your able to check out your vehicle. Buyer beware.

I took my 2002 Pontiac Grand Am in to a facility in Draper to get the safety and emissions completed. Emissions passed, safety passed everything but the parking brake. I took it home and looked at the cable adjustments and the little lever that causes the parking brake to engage when the cable pulls tension. Couldn’t figure out a solution. I gave up and searched the web for a reliable shop that was close. I found Reliable Auto Mechanics and their great reviews on Google. I call them up and spoke with Chris. They got me in quick, took it apart and inspected it and said they would do a clean and adjust service for $ 90. An hour later, he informs me that it will need a new hardware kit (missing one of the metal dowel rods that sits on the end of the lever) for a total of $ 228 installed (he kindly removed the $ 90 clean and adjust). It is a $ 22 kit (
) and they sold it to me for $ 56 (nothing like 150% markup!!). They get everything installed the next day. When I go to pick it up Troy tells me everything is installed and ready to go but still not holding — it will need a new parking brake cable (the old one was very rusty). He said it was a $ 45 (it’s actually only $ 19.99) for the part and more for the extra labor. I told him I was comfortable installing the cable myself. Get home and install in 10 minutes. Pull the parking brake, still the car doesn’t hold. I proceed to take everything apart, pull the caliper, remove the rotor and come to find out the hardware kit was installed incorrectly — the metal dowel rods (entire reason it wasn’t working in the first place!) were not installed so when you pull tension on the cable, it still doesn’t engage the shoes to the inside of the rotor. I looked a little closer and realized there wasn’t even any tension on the shoes mating to the new hardware pieces that they actually installed. The shoes were LITERALLY BOUNCING AROUND… I’ve posted a video on YouTube to show you what I mean. Here is the link:
. Thank God this was just my parking brake assembly and not my actual brakes or I could’ve been in a serious accident. At this point I was furious. I bring it back it and show Chris the video and he says they are going to make it right (granted I already paid $ 228 for this service). He then tries to tell me that there really isn’t anything that holds tension on the shoe — he is wrong — you need to adjust the sprocket until the shoes touch enough to stay in place — even one of the mechanics (to remain un-​named) looked at me square in the eye and said you are 100% correct. Chris orders a new kit and says they are picking up the tab on this one (after they already marked up the first one 150% — I essentially already paid for 2.5 kits). An hour later, the kit shows up and it takes them 1 hour to install it (although I was billed for 2 hours of labor — funny math there). I go outside to get in my car and leave and the check engine light is on — I had just passed emission 4 days prior and there was no light on when I came in. They cleared the code and sent me home. I asked for a portion of my money back for the labor. Chris explained this request was above his pay grade and he would need to talk to Phil. I demanded to speak to Phil and Chris tried to call him and no answer. Today, ⁹⁄₃ is 4 days later and I still have not received a phone call from Phil. I get a call from Chris today and they offer me a free oil change — what a joke. Likely costs them $ 10 – 12 total for an oil change and at this point, I don’t think I could even trust them to do that right. Worst shop I’ve ever been to in my life — I am 29 years old and have owned a car since 15−½ and have worked on multiple friend’s cars. If you want to leave a shop not fearing for your life, I would not recommend this shop.
Chris — you left Ken Garff because you said you cared about the customers. If this is the case, it is seriously time for you to leave Reliable Auto Mechanics (especially Phil) behind and pursue another opportunity elsewhere.

I was surprised to see a business on Unilocal with such a high rating do such low quality scam work. I brought in my truck with a throttle issue and left a $ 114 bill and the same throttle issue. Reliable Auto told me that I had to take my truck to the dealership to get the computer refreshed because they didn’t have the tools. When I took it to Dodge they said the issue had nothing to do with the computer and apologized for getting scammed by Reliable. Dodge said that there is no way you did any diagnostic work on the truck other than hooking it up to a computer and giving me bogus information. Thanks for living up to the mechanic stereotype «Reliable».

I honestly feel that this is the safest place to take your car. If they mess up they will make it right. I was extremely impressed with the owner and the pricing is always fair.

Wow. These guys have old fashioned service as well as state of the art modern technology. They were awesome. The Owner Phil came out and met me just to check that all my needs were taken care of. While I was waiting — they had a clean nice waiting room with free cokes. I’m going to recommend these guys to everyone.

Gotta give these guys props — they really earned my loyalty today. My starter was out on my car.
First of all, they had one of the lowest estimates among the shops I called. What really sold me was they offer free towing if the bill is over $ 300, which I knew I’d hit.
They told me it’d be done that day, and they kept their word even though they had to stay an hour past close just for me. They’ve also got a tv and free drinks in the lobby which made waiting a little easier.
I also had them do my brakes and rotors and they had a great price compared to other places.
Anyway, they were really helpful, cost effective, and honest — that’s all I need in a car place. Thanks Josh and Phil!

We found out when we went in that this offer only included ²⁄₃ of a complete alignment, that camber adjustment is not included.
We look at other shops camber is usually included in a complete alignment.
As we left the car pulled to the right much more than it did before we went in, we took it back in for them to double check, they put it up on the rack made a adjustment, after that it pulled less then the first try but still more the when we took it in.
There reply is to start replacing parts at my expense (starting with a less that 2 year old half axle) until they get it right.

This place is phenomenal! I came here with no appointment and not a clue about cars, the guys here are the best! Right away helped me and took my car in, also I got a great deal because of Groupon! The man, Troy, is awesome! Really took the time to make sure I knew that my car was in good hands! This place Truly is reliable! I won’t go anywhere else now!

I had taken my truck to another mechanic and received a quote for front axle brake job at over 400. Said my rotors were bad, needed calipers, etc. Reliable did the job for less than a quarter of what I would have paid my former mechanic. These guys are honest and friendly and in the auto repair biz that’s becoming a rare combination.

Reliable Auto Mechanics ripped me off on 3 occasions. They overcharged me by almost 50% on two repairs, and waited 3 months to charge me for the 3^rd repair which again, wasn’t a fair price. I went to them on all 3 occasions to fix the same problem all 3 times they «fixed other things» which did not help my problem AT ALL. I eventually had to sell my 2004 car because they took so much money from me. Do not go to them, they are not «reliable»

Needed something welded on my exhaust but he said he doesn’t have time for that. Easy job easy money but he must be a horrible welder

I was in a really tight spot, I needed my car back fast and I had already gone to two other shops that couldn’t help me. Reliable went out of their way to get me my car back, and I paid a lot less then I had anticipated!
I’m never going anywhere else!

Fast, friendly service! Very accommodating when I brought a part in that I hadn’t purchased through their shop, and more affordable than the dealership. I’ll be back next time I need work done!
