Republic Electric

SUMMARY: Nick is my go-​to guy for electrical work! Extremely knowledgeable and skilled, does the job right the first time and even fixes problems caused by other contractors, very responsive, on time, fair prices, courteous and respectful, and practices fantastic customer service.
DETAILS: My home warranty provider, Old Republic Home Protection, got me in touch with Nick from Republic Electric to figure out what was going on with an outlet that would cause all three lights from an outlet tester to light up (there’s no reading provided for when all three lights appear).
He came over to investigate and give me a quote based on what he could find. In the span of those few days, I ended up asking him to do far more than just repair that outlet – install two new circuits in the kitchen, ground three of the outlets, fix my bathroom exhaust fan, fix a dead outlet, etc. Unfortunately, none of this was covered by my warranty, since they were known issues before I bought the house, but he still provided a fair quote. When he returned to actually perform all the work, he ended up finding more issues and committed to staying longer to make sure everything was installed correctly and up to current standards and regulations.
My dad, who is a handyman, liked him a lot due to his knowledge and credibility. My mom, who is a mom, liked him a lot due to his fairness and thoughtfulness, going above and beyond what was expected. It should come as no surprise then that we called him back up several months later to help us with wiring new recessed lights. Just like last time, he did a superb job, stuck with his initial quote even though the work turned out to be even more of a hassle than anticipated, and took the time to teach me and my dad what he was doing and what he found out about my house in the process.
I highly recommend Nick and will definitely call him up for any future electrical work!

I purchased Amazon’s installation service for a ceiling fan. Raphael called up on the day the service was to take place and asked questions about the installation. Although we selected the option for a ‘new’ installation, meaning no existing fan/​not a replacement, Rafael said our situation did not qualify. He offered to come 4 days later, but couldn’t tell me the price. I asked him to tell us the price in advance. He stopped by late that same day and looked over the situation and said he would provide a price over the phone the next day. Did not hear from him with a price… no response. Unreliable.

I recently had another handyman come down to try and fix some old wiring rats had chewed through. Long story short, he caused more problems than it was worth so I called Republic Electric after finding them here on Unilocal.Nick was super helpful, the price he gave me was very reasonable too .
Nick came out fixed everything up with no additional problems. It probably took him about two hours to replace the old wires, which weren’t very easy to get to in the first place. I was just happy to see that the damage my old electrician did was undone and back in working order.
I’ll be calling Nick again if I have any other problems, very professional electrician!

I had Nick come to my house three times over the past two months for different electric issues. He is efficient, professional, patient, and friendly.
Apparently the previous owner hired some handy man who made a mess, and Nick had to climb up to my attic twice when it was very hot up there to re-​wire for me. He even made the extra effort to check every outlet in the house, with no extra cost. His advice was both professional and reasonable, and more importantly, well-​explained to someone like me who have no idea about electricity.
I have saved Nick’s number on my cell for future convenience. He is very responsive to phone calls and text messages. I would definitely recommend Nick and the company he works for.

Nick of Republic Electric is the man I call when I realize I’m venturing into what isn’t a simple electrical repair that I can do myself. I found him through Red Beacon (there are additional reviews about him there). I’ve had him to my previous home in northern San Jose for remounting a ceiling fan, I’ve had him to my current home in Livermore for rewiring another fan, and I have him booked next week to replace a laundry room exhaust fan and rewire some plugs. In each case, as he dug into it, weird things were uncovered — improper wiring, incorrect electrical boxes used, haphazard repairs made by someone else,… he’ll get it done right so the end-​product is safe, straightforward, and «clean.» By «clean» I mean he doesn’t try to just patch in another couple of wires to make it work, he tries to understand exactly what he’s working with and wire the whole thing properly so that the next guy doesn’t have to figure out all of the extra caps in the electric box.
In short, he does it right. Best of all, his rates are very reasonable. Look no further, this is the company, or the guy, that you need to call.

Nick just finished his second job with us so I want to write this before I let time pass by and forgot. :) The first job was about 6 months ago and he helped to install ceiling fans, recessed LED lights and the chandelier. He did them all fast, accurately and at a competitive fee. He also likes to keep things in symmetry so all my lights and fans seems to be spaced out nicely. I’ve seen other houses where the recessed lights are kind of haphazardly placed. He wasn’t familiar with our fan brand that I bought from online but he called and talked directly to the manufacturer to set it right for me. One time, the fan wobbled quite a bit, and he spent hours trying to figure it out and won’t leave till it was solved (there were 2 other of the same fans in different rooms which didn’t have the wobbling problem).
The best part for me is that I know I can trust him while I have to leave the house for a few errands. I also have young kids at the house and they like talking to him too — he has his own young ones so understands how they behave.
So, when I have a second round of electrical projects to do, he’s the first one I contacted. This time we wanted to put two track lighting in the garage, put in a new electrical socket in there, and install the motion sensor detector. He also helped to put a LED dimmer in. He came by right on time and did the job for about 7 hours including his lunch break.
I’m really glad I found a great electrician to help us.

This a review long over due! We have used Nick for many electrical needs in our home, from ceiling fan installations, exhaust fan’s, can lights, switches, outlets etc etc. He is very professional, friendly, reliable, and reasonable in pricing. I would highly recommend him for any electrical work.
