Stage Kids CA

I have not been involved with Stage Kids for about 8 months now but do your research before believing the one bad review on this site.
My daughter and son did Stage Kids for years and not only enjoyed learning acting skills but also learned life skills like having a positive attitude, doing quality work, showing up on time, participating fully, including everyone, accepting and celebrating differences. Under the caring, quality leadership of Michelle McCormick, Stage Kids owner, I am sure she and her team of committed managers will solve any issues that have arisen.

What a mess! Disorganized, rigid, unprofessional, and condescending staff. Our elementary school hired StageKids to produce our annual school play because our usual vendors were not available. From the start the parents and kids were treated like their employees, being told what to do, what the rules were, and what their volunteer commitment must be. StageKids entered into a contract saying they would provide costumes and props, and then gave us a long list of props we were to provide. I could write a book on how difficult this company was to work with, but I’ll try and stick to the highlights.
The StageKids «staff» that produced our play consisted of:
— a director (early/​mid 20s with another job that dictated rehearsal times based on her availability, regardless of the fact the times were not convenient for our school),
— stage manager (maybe 19 – 20), who had so many piercings it was sometimes hard to understand what she was saying. She walked around with her back to the performers during rehearsal, shouting out commands like she was an accomplished, famous director. And two children of a StageKids regular employee:
— a «choreographer» (maybe 16) who seemed to just sit around a lot, and
— an assistant stage manager (maybe 13 — doesn’t matter, he did absolutely nothing besides run around playing with the props).
While age is not necessarily an indicator of quality, in this case the quality provided was below the age level of the «staff.»
I called and spoke to the owner in hopes of resolving any misunderstandings, but was met with confrontation and defensiveness. 45 minutes on the phone trying to have a reasonable conversation.
I recommend avoiding this company at all cost!!!

My daughter performed with Stage Kids for several years. I loved the focus on teaching the children about being a good team player and how to support one another. My daughter was very shy but they gave her a lot of support so she could star in a few productions. This is a great program for bring out the best in your child.

My daughter has loved being part of Stage Kids! She has grown more confident and honed her leadership skills and work ethic, all while building great relationships with the kids and adults she works with regularly in the program. It is a community also, one that fosters relationships among families, not only the kids, and we have loved being part of it. Unlike other theatre programs in the area, the work commitment for parents is manageable, and you WANT to participate, because everyone enjoys being together and being part of what the kids are creating. The leadership and staff are friendly, responsive, and extremely talented, and have a passion for passing on their gifts to the kids, no matter what level of skill they start with. My daughter has blossomed under them, and has found her niche. I would highly recommend Stage Kids to children of all ages and talent levels.

My daughter has been with StageKids for over 2 years now and is loving it so much. It’s made such a positive impact on her, our family and we’re so grateful for this. She so much more confident and is enjoying every aspect performing and being on stage. The staff and parent volunteers make StageKids a wonderful organization. They do a great job cultivating these young talents. We’re looking forward to her next show in spring 2015! Also love that they now have StageTeens! Thanks to StageKids for the wonderful opportunity for our kids to show off their talents, dedication and passion!

Took my family to see Stage Kid’s Christmas play, Bah Humbug last night. Went to see it as my friends daughter was in the ensemble cast. We expected good, but got GREAT! Blown away by the energy & talent of these kids. Truly rivals a Broadway production. Refreshing to step aside from consumer frenzy & soak in the true meaning of this holiday. Best part was seeing the sheer joy, confidence & collaboration amongst the kids, during the show & post production. Very special.
