Honu Coffee

Honu Café has such a cute surrounding neighborhood. I loved it as soon as I walked in. I ended up ordering a White Mocha Coffee with a Croissant, which was delicious and spent the rest of my morning working in the upstairs loft. There’s such a chill vibe and the staff is very friendly. If you’re looking for a nice café to have a good cup of coffee, get together with a friend or get some work done then this is a great place.

Such great coffee, organic and delicious, and best chai I’ve had in town! Also, I love their cute little loft area. Great place for homework. Love this place.

This is definitely a great place to take a few minute and kick back. The iced coffee (cold brew) here is absolutely fantastic. The seating wasn’t the most comfortable but so much heart and effort went into this place, that’ll all come with time.
Great choice of staff as well. Very friendly and good at what they do!

I got a hot chai latte w/​soy, and a ham & cheese croissant. It all tasted great, but giving 4 stars because it took 20 minutes to make my latte after I ordered. There were only 2 people working and a bunch of customers.

This place is one of the best coffee shops I’ve been to in awhile. Their beans are great and the treats were sooooo good. If you’re a cold brew person, this is the place to go. An insanely good high caffeinated drink. So good

Was invited by a CPA who I met there as it was her regular go to place. I only had a cup of tea, but it was great and the atmosphere was very inviting. Definitely will be back. Their menu had many choices and looked delicious.

I used to love Honu, but I am disappointed with their prices. They literally up their prices every few months. I don’t know who they think they are, but you can’t just randomly increase your prices by 40 – 50 cents out of nowhere! A chai latte for $ 5.50? NOT worth it! I remember when they first opened I never spent over $ 5 for my large white mocha latte or a large chai latte! Like who cares if your chai is popular, not down to spend almost 6 bucks on a dang chai. I do love their coffee, so that’s why I gave it 2 stars. However, they seriously need to reconsider how they price their menu. Ridic.

I came here for some coffee time with my friend after a sumptuous breakfast at Egg Plantation (see my review). It’s literally across from the back side of Egg Plantation. This was recommended by my friend, who loves their coffee. And oh boy! She was telling me the truth! I ordered their Caramel Frappé and it was delish! They the could looks small at first glance but they have a loft with couches and tables with stools, which is the cutest! They also have a counter where you could plug your laptop or phone. Such a hipster ambience but makes you feel laid back. They have board games as well for entertainment. Perfect place to hang out with your friends, group meetings/​study or just to chill alone and surf the Internet. It’s located in downtown Newhall, which is the oldest part of Santa Clarita.

This place is amazing! I have been coming here since shortly after they opened, So a little over a year and it is great. During the summer we have a constant stock of growlers filled in our fridge with cold brew. I love the cold brew it is so smooth I do not need any sweetener and just a touch of milk. My other go to drink would be a dirty chai. I am not sure what brand chai they use but it is the best I have had. The kids love it also, we tend to get them a blended chai as a special treat. As an added bonus they have some of the local business spots food for snacks. They have the amazing Kokolitas empanadas and also DW cookies both delicious snacks. This place has a great atmosphere and they are great with our kids!
They also have an amazing loft upstairs that has ample seating and plug-​ins to sit and do some work. They offer free wifi and the updated password is usually on the chalkboard menu. One day I will be able to sit and enjoy the loft!

The ONLY real coffee house in all of Santa Clarita.

My husband and I were loyal cold brew coffee drinkers and would go almost every day until 2 – 3 days ago when I asked to get a small cold brew coffee with cream. They charged me over double the price just to add cream and hazelnut! Small cold brew is 2.80 (price went up .30 a week ago) and when I asked to add cream they charged me $ 6+. I didn’t realize they charged me this much until I checked my account. That is simply unacceptable. To charge $ 4 for cream and a pump of syrup? A speciality drink at Starbucks costs less than that. I like supporting local, small businesses, but it becomes difficult when they compromise service and the product simply to maximize profits. We have supported this place for a while, but I do not think we will continue to do so.
UPDATE-​the overcharge was a mistake. The owner was prompt and made it right. Thank you John!

A nice change of pace from the chain coffees in Santa Clarita Valley. It doesn’t have a hipster vibe, but more of a small independent coffee shop serving up coffee from Kean from Costa Mesa.
There’s a loft-​like space to hang out and an outdoor patio.
It’s most likely the best and only quality coffee shop in Santa Clarita Valley. They have a huge variety of drink options from coffees to teas to some specialty drinks.
I ordered a cortado to go. It was a little bitter and served hotter than what I’m used to.
Definitely a step above Starbucks. Support local. Support independent.

First time here. We heard about this place from DW cookie. A nice coffee place. We had a cappuccino and cortado. They were pretty good. Too bad the staff were not friendly.

It’s nice to see a new coffee shop that is not the usual stuff. The coffee was tasty with earthy tones that I was curious about at first but now I really like. The lemon ginger cake was very tasty too.
They have a cool loft for those people with way too much time on their hands and want to hang out at coffee shops. I really dig this place and I will surely return.

Cute place with a lot of charm in old town Santa Clarita with really friendly staff.
Had a delicious vanilla latte that was robust without being bitter at all. It was earthy, strong and flavorful. We also couldn’t pass up getting the ginger lemon pound cake which was moist and zingy sweet.
It’s great to have a good local shop alternative to the big chains. Definitely check it out. And don’t forget to check in to get 10% off!

Honu has all the makings of a great coffee shop. Unique name. Signature drinks. Small bites. But Honu really lost me in the execution. When my best friend and I arrived they were pretty busy, so I took a minute to peruse the menu. They offer every espresso beverage known to man, blended coffee drinks, cold brew, and a few signature drinks that play with coconut, pineapple, and chocolate flavorings.
When we were ready to order the guy who helped us was friendly enough– I ordered a vanilla latte lightly sweetened and my best friend ordered a coconut latte. I also asked if he could serve our lattes in ‘for here’ cups to which he hesitantly agreed to as if it was a really weird request which struck me as weird but no biggie.
My best friend got her drink first and the foam was a hot mess (big fat bubbles, not airated properly at all which I know because I’m a trained barista) but she didn’t mind so I didn’t think twice about it. Got my drink and the foam on my drink was perfect! Inconsistency like that is kind of a bummer. The drinks in general tasted okay; portion size was a little large which causes the espresso is get drowned in the milk.
We stayed around to chat for awhile and the atmosphere is nice but the drink quality isn’t enough to bring me back.

Finally stopped in last night after having dinner in this part of town (Light & Healthy Sushi Bar, yum!). Parking was easy and was able to pull into one of the many open spaces of their private lot shared with other businesses in the same plaza. Street parking is also another option if you come during peak hours.
The storefront is one of many shops housed in a building that mocks a big yellow house, they have outdoor seating that you can enjoy on a nice day or even when it’s raining as it offers protection from rain.
I only scoped out the first floor (apparently there is a loft upstairs which I am eager to check out upon my next visit, yes I will be back!) and there are a few (maybe 3?) tables lining the inside. A large chalkboard menu boasts all the drink beverages and they even place the WiFi info along with password, which makes this coffee shop a great place to pop into to do some leisurely Internet surfing or to get work done if you are looking for a change of scenery. They also have a display case for their baked goodies, although it was looking pretty scarce around 7pm. At that hour of the day I wasn’t taken aback, I presume the selection is more fruitful earlier in the day.
I ordered two regular drinks (both hot), to go, and my total came out to $ 10:
–The Surfin Honu: a coconut, peanut butter, chocolate $ 5 for my fiancé
–The Tsunami: a coconut white mocha with real whipped cream $ 4.85 for myself
We both loved our drinks! Mine faintly reminded me of the coconut coffee drink I order at Lions Coffee in Gaslamp San Diego, which is a good thing! Anyway, drinks had the right amount of flavoring and not overly sweet, would order again!
The service was above average and turnaround time for my order was great. When I placed my order I was able to take advantage of the one time 10% off when checking in via Unilocal.Also, as a first time visitor I wasn’t quick to order, so many options! (cold brews, hot brews, blended, teas, caffeine free) and inquired which the cashier recommended. She mentioned the cold brew was one of their popular items but with it being cold out I wanted something hot. She did offer me a sample though of the cold brew, it came out of a little tap that looks like it’s built into the wall — I thought that was pretty cool! And the cold brew IS good! I didn’t add any sugar or cream and it was tasty, I will definitely order that when warmer temperatures roll around.
Definitely will be frequenting Honu Coffee every now and then and recommend to anyone in the area to stop by

They have such interesting coffees here! I tried one with coconut white mocha! It was so good and the coconut reminded me of Hawaii.

I’m a fan! What a great coffee house! Opened last October, I finally had the chance to pay a visit and so happy I did as I live on the other side of SCV. Walked in and already a line… that’s a good sign if people are willing to wait. I was greeted by a very friendly cashier who also shared with me her best suggestions on what pastries to try as a first timer.
My norm is straight black coffee because I enjoy the sip and scent of a good, quality grind that when exceptional won’t need anything in the mix. But, coming here with all the aroma teasing my senses, I decided to order their popular Dirty Chai Latte as I was reading from my fellow Unilocalers and Instagram followers. WOW lived up to the hype that’s for sure! Hot and smooth with a hint of spice topped with a tender amount of foam… just perfect. I will have to try it iced and more dirty next time round.
There are a few tables at the entrance and the upstairs loft has chairs and couches along with counter seating/​laptop bar with plenty of outlets. A nice small area for relaxing or getting work done.
Try their empanadas they are amazing! The chicken empanada is tender and seasoned great and spinach empanada surprisingly very hearty and filling. They also have beef available.
Parking can be a bit challenging because it is shared between many businesses such as Egg Plantation and Yoga Yoga studio and numerous retail shops within the strip mall. Also, it is a tight squeeze for trucks and SUVs.
I can see myself taking a stroll here if it was walking distance from my home. A very warm coffee shop that has a hometown feel.

To be honest, i have mixed feelings about this coffee shop. I love the location, the flavors of the coffees offered here, and the interior…
However i have some concerns and 3 of my major concerns are…
1. Service– its lacking
2. Display/​Baked goods– scarce and limited
3. Representation of company on plastic coffee cups. (no logo)
The first thing i noticed once i entered the shop was the empty looking display case where the baked goods are suppose to be. It looked like a joke.
I recommend them partnering up with a really good baked goods company and offering something worthy of buying.
Another minor issue that threw me off about the case was the display of other beverages. Ex. Fiji water and a couple other items. Those should be put away in a back refrigerator and instead the bottom of the case could be lined up with those brown Honu coffee growlers. (putting my 2cents)
Plastic cups need logos!!! I don’t know why businesses fail to keep up with this. If you are offering an amazing tasting product. Stamp your name on it! Represent it with pride!!! (need i say more?)
Service– train your employees equally. Pump them up with some excitement. For a busy coffee shop i didn’t get any pumped energy going.
Coffee taste– amazinggg!!! First time i had the dirty chai latte and second time a reg iced chai latte. The coffee tasted very nutty and smooth. If they had a drive thru option, i would order their coffee 3 – 4 times a week.
Go give it a try! Its worth the drive!
