Railroad Cafe

I was afraid to drink the coffee thinking that it was flavored by many many many days of improper cleaning of the coffee maker. I sipped… I sipped again… I stopped. It tasted like I thought it did. Like an Andy Gump worker poured it.
This place needs love and good jujus. I walked in and felt they were hiding something. No pictures, No music, Nothing. The spot has potential. Hope it gets color and flavor quick.

this café is… adequate… for the following reasons…
the place is very small.
theres only a few selection of coffees.
the furniture needs to be upholstered.
i didnt check the bathroom but i didnt want to find surprises…
the coffee was okay. but not fantastic.
the only thing that was good that i can actually give credit to is the barista. the guy was polite and did what ever i wanted. so thats a plus for now.

The Counter Culture coffee and the amazing employees are what get this place the four stars. If the building had a professional makeover and expanded the food menu, it would easily be five. This is the only full-​time coffee shop in the SCV that will make a pour-​over with care!

Railroad Café is along the back side of Newhall’s main drag named appropriately. Main Street. But perhaps the even more appropriately named is this small coffee shop which sits across the street from a train station and has an address on Railroad Avenue!
Easy parking: Plenty along the street or in the private lot that is shared with the market.
Large drink under $ 5: Yes
Friendly staff: Yes
Indoor seating: Only a few small folding chairs and a couple leather lounge chairs to wait for your order.
Outdoor seating: Metal tables on the shaded patio area in front of the parking lot.
Décor: Small framed photos along the walls. Most of the attention is on the ordering counter.
People with laptops: Not really
Hipsters: No
Famous Faces: No
Foam Art: No
People watching: Okay
In & out quick: Never

Do you actually like real coffee? Well holy shit this is the only place you’re going to find it in the canyon country/​newhall area. REVIEWED.

The coffee was okay but it wasn’t better than your average mainstream coffee shop. The atmosphere wasn’t exactly inviting, not really a place you could go and hang out. The lady behind the counter was really nice and the service was fast. That’s about all Railroad Café has going for it.

Great coffee in my opinion. Uses Counter Culture beans. Owner is friendly and passionate about coffee. I’ll be back.

Stopped in for a quick coffee and restroom break before my train ride. Place was empty including no one behind the counter. I really hate using the restroom without buying anything especially when the sign says «restroom for customers only» (fitting since this is right next to a train stop).
After a few minutes I was greeted by a lovely young lady who, when asked what a single-​drip was on the menu, politely said it’s basically a pour over that would take a few minutes. Knowing my train would be leaving in 10 minutes I opted for the house coffee with cream and sugar.
The coffee had a funny taste to it, not sure if it was inherent in the roast or just a bad batch.
Good service, but coffee was just meh.

Great place with great food and great people :)

For the record, my review of this quaint little caffeinated treasure is LONG overdue.
I’ve been a recurring traveler to the Santa Clarita area for about year now (having become a College Of The Canyons student recently by the time this review is published), and every chance I’d get before taking the Metrolink train back home to Los Angeles (the station nestled conveniently across from this place) I will always stop by this place.
Recently, I’ve become so disenchanted with fast-​pace coffee joints like your local Starbucks franchise when, though convenient at times, I had forgotten that it isn’t about the speed, but rather, the time and quality necessary to feeding the smiling customer their caffeine cravings. Since then, I’ve always been on the hunt for the best caffeinated stops around that catches my eye. This is one of those places.
I guess you could call me a sort of regular customer here, and for good reason. The baristas that work here offer both quality and attentive service, in addition to being just plain down-​to-​earth with anyone who stops by for that mean cup of joe. My usual order when I’m feeling burnt-​out after a long day of study? A ice cold slap in the face (with subtle hints of sugary sweetness), and that’s what the baristas gave me (not literally, of course). Just tell them how you want your coffee to feel like, and they’ll do their best to help energize you enough for the day.
The best part? For train travelers like myself, the café is located just across from the Newhall Metrolink Station!
So if ever you’re in and around Santa Clarita, please check out this hidden little treasure. Have a conversation with some of the equally-​nice locals who come in here for their java fix too, while you’re at it.

Honestly, the best coffee shop around. The vibe in that coffee shop is completely differently then any other and totally cool. It doesn’t have that franchised, cookie cutter feel that you get at most coffee shops. It feels like a local coffee shop should feel. The employees are so friendly and so nice! The customers don’t just hide to themselves, but come there to be part of the unique community.
Honestly, give it a try. It’s worth it. Plus, the Barista’s actually seem like they enjoy their job. They actually love making coffee, love talking about coffee, and love listening to you talk about coffee.
I was not sure what I wanted so the Barista asked me a few questions and made me something that was perfect. It helped me get through 4 hours of studying and tasted so good.

This place is awesome! Ive been looking for a local coffee shop since The Coffee Shop closed down in Newhall and had no idea this one existed. Its quaint and lots of comfortable seating and patio area to read or work on stuff. And the coffee is really good too! Free WiFi and very friendly baristas! Forget Starbucks next time and head to Railroad Café! Plus 10% off for students!

Went here yesterday with my boyfriend and my friend and this place is hands down awesome! Right across from the train station in Newhall, easy to find.
I have to say, I had the best chai tea latte I have ever had! Seriously! The milk was steamed perfectly at the perfect temperature, creating the perfect sweet foamy goodness on top. My boyfriend got an iced latte and my friend got a vanilla iced coffee. Both of theirs were good too. The place was a little quiet inside, as we were the only ones there. The owner (i think it was the owner) was hands down awesome. Best customer service I have received at any coffee shop. She explained how they buy higher quality coffee, and also make their ice cubes out of coffee so the iced drinks don’t get watered down! She even gave my friend a free refill. She was fast, and friendly. I will definitely be coming back sometime soon.

This places serves top-​quality coffee (Counter culture and Handsome Roasters, for the coffee snobs among you) with top-​quality service.
Ask for Michael, he’ll make you the best latte in the SCV, hands down (I have him put just a splash of real maple syrup at the bottom… DELISH)

Looking for a great cup of coffee? This place has got it! I used to frequent another local coffee establishment in Newhall until new ownership drove me away. This place does not look so special from the outside but the baristas are all wonderful and know their coffee.
The décor is getting there — there is some seating inside for smaller groups. Fun art and cards are around the shop to look at. Wish the food was a bit better, but I know they are working on that as well.
I see some negative Unilocal from a couple of years ago, but this place has a newer owner and she is excellent.

Finally a real coffee shop that specializes in handing you the best cup of one-​off coffee anywhere. This is definitely a Coffee fanatic heaven, when you really know the difference. The coffee they use is exclusive (As I understand) and only available here; not available by others in the area. The taste is not like the burnt, bitter Starbucks fare; it is complex, smooth and demonstrates a rich and deep after taste. A real find.

I had never truly understood the difference between a brewed cup of coffee and one that was individually made for you until I came here. I have been a regular here for a while and get a cup of coffee while waiting for the train.
Under new ownership and new staff the place is great. Ellady (sp?) made me an amazing cup of coffee individually poured and made for me. I must say the taste was brilliant, not bitter, smooth, and flavorful.
the selection of food items is limited though. But the coffee is great. In my opinion, better than Starbucks.

They frequently offer free samples of their coffee for the morning commuters. This morning they had cider and hot coco on a little table outside for us! Very friendly staff! They’re always trying new brands of coffee, the recent ones have been delicious!
