Lighten Up Skylight

Just great. They designed, manufactured and installed a large and beautiful skylight in my home, replacing a nasty plastic bubble. Everything went perfectly, with the result surpassing what we expected by a long shot! I can already feel the difference in terms of insulation, not to mention the light and ventilation improvements (they designed a solar powered remote controlled opener into the skylight). Installation was quick and cleanup perfect. I would recommend this company to anyone!

Pete is fantastic. He came by for the eval. Was on time, gave a well priced estimate and was really great at answering my questions. Then he came back and did the work even when I wasn’t home (since he didn’t need to get inside). Very easy to work with. I wish he did windows and other work because he was just so fantastic.

The 5 stars is for their honesty. I called and talked to Chip. I mentioned that I also have another vendor coming out to do an estimate. He asked for the vendor’s name, then recommended me to go with the other vendor due to the scope of the work is more of the other vendor’s specialty.

We had a great experience with lighten up skylight. I tried half a dozen skylight companies to replace two old skylights we have in our home. We emailed them the dimensions and description and they promptly sent us a reasonable bid. Jack researched and found they were made by a company that had gone out of business but was able to duplicate the ones we needed to replace. We ordered them and were told they’d be ready in two weeks, but instead they were able to deliver them within one week! We are so pleased with the both the product and the service we received from Chip and Jack.

Please be cautious about doing business with them. They don’t keep their promise.
At the beginning Jack was very nice, sending me skylight samples, doing very detailed proposals. But I have to give 1 star for below reasons:
1) made appointment and never show up twice. First time I waited two hours at home and kept calling the owner but no one reply. Very rude. Second time, when I took 1 hr driving back and Jack called me their guy couldn’t come. Bad communications.
2) don’t make a good schedule on business. The owner should have a planning for their staffs. However, finally Jack told me they are not going to do it because they are too busy. I am very disappointed, everybody is busy but if you promise to do something you should make good schedule.

Lighten Up Skylight are great to work with. First, Chip Gilbert arrived when he said he would to give me an estimate. That may not sound like much, but how often have you waited all afternoon for someone? I got two quotes to replace an existing 5-​unit pyramid shaped acrylic skylight. Lighten Up was not the low bid. I called to discuss the difference and Chip went over what they proposed, and guessed (correctly) what the other contractor was proposing. I decided to go with Lighten Up and am very glad I did. Installation was delayed because a couple of panes of glass arrived broken. They called me to let me know! Then, we set a date for installation. The crew arrived on time! They worked diligently to accommodate my schedule and finished the installation by mid-​afternoon. The work is impeccable — that’s the only word. Everyone on the crew was friendly, and when they left their was no mess left behind. It just doesn’t get better than that. If you are looking for quality workmanship, this is your place to go.

I felt compelled to let others know about this company.
We replaced two aging Velux fixed skylights with new solar-​powered openable lights. Velux Corp. recommended this company to me and I can’t thank Velux enough. I dealt with Chip and he was professional and very competent. They delivered on everything they promised. Their crew installed the new fixtures in a single morning and had to do so around another company who were involved in our major bathroom remodel. They did the installation without ever impeding the bathroom construction. Both skylights are awesome!
A well done job for a fair price. What more can you ask for?

hardly ever do this. but, i’ve dealt with more than my fair share of contractors. these guys do it right. no drama whatsoever. they say what they do and do what they say. use them. no joke.

I had a skylight installed in my living room by Lighten Up back in 2004. I have nothing but praise for these guys. The consultation and recommendations they provided were right on, they didn’t upsell me on anything, and the job was done super-​fast and clean. A few months later, I noticed a little puckering where the drywall screws were drilled in the new shaft, and called them up. They sent a guy out to patch and repaint those spots right away, at no additional charge, explaining that this sometimes happens as things settle in. This, on top of the fact that their overall price was excellent to begin with. They’re just a classy organization.
Lastly: The skylight has performed flawlessly for 7 years now, with not a drop of rain ever seen in the house.
I realize I must sound like a shill… I assure you, I’m not. But I just saw their ad in a local circular, and was glad to see they’re still going strong. I only saw a couple of Unilocal reviews, so I thought I’d add mine.

On time and work was performed as described in contract. I am very happy with the job! I highly recommend this company for anyone interested in installing a skylight!
