History

Established in 1923.

Fisher Lumber is one of the oldest continuing operating retail stores in Santa Monica. Bob Sievers started working at Fisher in 1948 and became a partner in the business with Joe Cleary. Bob owned and operated Fisher Lumber for 40 years. Bob and his partner sold the company to Weyerhaeuser Corporation in 1980. His son-​in-​law, Erik Jorgensborg, joined the company in 1975 and became president of the company upon Bob’s retirement in 1985. The Fisher property was sold to the city in 2004 and the business that served Santa Monica for 82 years closed its doors in 2005.

In 2006 Erik and Nancy Jorensborg (Bob’s daughter) reopened the store at 1600 Lincoln Blvd. on 1⁄6 the size of the former property. They, along with their son Christopher and 8 former employees of Fisher have scaled down and tailored the business for contractors and homeowners. Erik and Nancy have maintained the same friendly and convenient service that Santa Monica residents have come to count on.

Way over priced and they don’t have people working that know anything about electric, plumbing etc. I will not return There’s a small hardware store just south of them they are great and ten dollars cheaper on an item I needed

Horrible customer service and lazy employees. Went in to ask whether they could replicate a curved piece of wood. The obese blonde lady at the front started laughing and responded in a snide way that «lumber is flat.» Really. Thank you so much for enlightening me on the nature of wood. I really appreciate your professional insight. Did you go to school for that? The douchey dude with the rosary tattoo on his arm was no better. These people obviously hate their jobs. Go down the street to Busy Bee, they’re so much more helpful.

Staff is friendly and answers questions. Very big parking lot in An otherwise very busy street intersection. Very wide selection of basic and more complex hardware. The drawback is it closes early at 5:30 pm. Other than that, it is important to remember that traditional hardware stores are tough to find as more people buy stuff online. What you get here is a knowledgable staff who takes time to explain and answer questions. There is also a lumber department which is rare as well. It’s located near some food venues if you get hungry including Denny’s. There is a lot of construction going on in the area so there will be some delays and street closures so it’s good to call before you go to see if the staff has any advice. Finally, the prices are very competitive with
. I did a comparison and it seemed that this place is quite savvy with pricing and promotions. Of note, don’t go to Sears for hardware as they are just a tools store now. For your traditional hardware needs it seems that Fisher hardware is quite a find!

Great little place if ur near 3rd at an your missing a couple supplies. A good amount of stuff and very friendly staff parking is decent. Just went o pick up some patch stuff an was very quick actually had to waste time before I headed back to work. Thanks Fisher

I called to ask about if they possibly sell a peice of tree trunk. I got put on hold for a great amount of time and when I finally got someone on the other line I got a very sarcastic and rude answer. I was not taken seriously because I was asking for a «novelty» item!

Local store. Pretty helpful with exchanges for wrong parts. Has lots of things. Good location in Santa Monica. Has lots of different screws and nails for a small store. Lumber yard is good too. They will cut the lumber for you without costing more. Parking is easy in private lot. No lines usually. If you don’t know what part you need, they help you. More expensive than Home Depot, but much closer.

I find the reviews for Fisher interesting. I mean, are there really people who would rather shop at Home Depot? While it’s true that the stock is limited, I can usually get what I’m after at Fisher. The costumer service has never been a problem for me. Yeah, the store is not loaded with employees, but if I need help, I can always get it. The lumber is top notch, and I’m picky. And guess what? I’m allowed to be picky without having to move a hundred pieces of bad stuff to get to the good stuff, myself. The lumber staff helps me be picky. Also, there is not a sash and door place on the west side that I trust more than going to Mitch for whatever it is I need. He knows his stuff.
Yes. There are other stores that I use if I need supplies that Fisher doesn’t carry. But for the regular stuff, Fisher is my go-​to. And I know I won’t have to walk fifteen miles in the store guided by a largely incompetent staff to get what I need.
By the way. Home Depot moldings cost just as much, it’s lower quality, and you have to cut the lengths you want yourself. If that works for you, what can I say?

I want to like this place because they are a smaller business but honestly, they aren’t that friendly. I would rather go to OSH or Home Depot. Customer service is paramount if you want to compete with the big guys.

Wish I could support this hardware store. I really want to support local businesses, and the times I’ve been in have been pleasant and productive.
However, the operating hours are terribly inconvenient. People complete home improvements on the weekend. So, why close on Sunday? And early on Saturday? Also, if I want to grab an item on the way home from work, forget about it. Closed at 5:30.
In short, I just wish this hardware store had more convenient hours so that I’m not forced to plan my day around store hours or buy from OSH or Home Depot.

When walking in, I wasn’t really sure what I was going to come across … but honestly, they were well stocked and had a good selection of everything. Plenty of cleaning supplies, kinds of glues, and lightbulbs.
They were very helpful with helping us find a lightbulb to match one we had brought in (something that would have taken me forever without opening every single box).

A small but well equipped hardware store with personalized service!
A frequent patron of Home Depot and OSH, I stumbled upon this place when I was looking for a few supplies while refinishing some furniture. Not really knowing much about it, a customer service associate here took the time to give me some tips on the process, and inform me on the products which would work best for me. After answering all my questions, and ensuring I had what I needed, the associate even thanked me for visiting the store. I left feeling like I had a mini lesson on refinishing woodwork, and the products worked beautifully!
*Great service, goods for any budget, I’ll definitely be returning for my home improvement needs!*
