Carlos Mac is the owner of High Tech Auto Service Santa Monica. He has been working on cars ever since he was a kid next to his father. Today he is an ASE master technician and graduate of Universal Technical Institute. He worked in various independent auto repair shops and decided to open his own auto repair shop in 2009.

I gotta give Carlos and his crew props here! Sure my car is in there way too much for different issues (because it’s a Jaguar) but these guys do the work properly each time. Their rates are beyond fair, too. Plan to leave your car most of the day since they get backed up often. They are busy for a reason here, folks!

I’ve been a loyal customer for a while, bringing my car for various services and usually the price and service are quite good. For this reason, i was a little surprised today.
I brought my car during lunchtime in order to check a minor problem in the wheel and met Carlos, who’s usually kind and attentive. However, i believe due to the high amount of service they had, Carlos seemed a bit stressed and fairly quick to dismiss me, say they couldn’t help me today and that i should come back tomorrow.
I can totally understand this situation, specially because i haven’t called for an appointment beforehand (everytime i called in the past they were available). But i believe customers, specially loyal ones, expect to be treated nicely. It would’ve taken a minute to listen to me with care, explain me the situation and scheduled an appointment in a convenient time for the both of us.
I still recommend it and hope they keep improving their customer service as this is what makes a difference in a market filled with similar options to choose from.

If you are looking for a shop that does quality and thorough work then High Tech is the place for you! I have several cars and Carlos (the main mechanic) is always accommodating to my hectic schedule. He usually can take my cars same day and his prices seem fair too. He is very friendly and professional. Couldn’t say enough good things about Carlos and how he runs his shop.

Needed to get my brake pads and rotors fixed. Compared a few shops around and Carlos gave me the best price. I was very impressed with how friendly and helpful he was. Also, he completed the job within 1 hour– I walked across the road to Mcdonalds and by the time I got back, it was done. 5 stars for a very happy client.

Worst experience here i brought my car here and the guy that drove my car into the shop can not drive stick shift he kept letting it turn off on him than when he gets out my car he pulls on my hood clamp hard A** F**k that it breaks on hes just looking at me the owner or who ever is incharge tells me it was broken already than im like no it wasnt because i just had it replace than he says it was glues on and starts scratching the paint of the clamp to make it seem like if it was broking and glued he knew damn well they messed up than im like are you guys going to fix it he tells me no we cant it was glued, yeah right i just had my old one replaced never again !!! im so fucking pissed if i could rate this place negative stars i would!

Been here twice. Once for new brakes & again for a new water hose/​coolant. Both times the service was great… quick, thorough, and at a great price. Great customer service, and trustworthy. Had the chance to take advantage & didn’t (another shop told me I needed new brakes on all 4 wheels… they took a look and told me I only needed em on the front).
No complaints. Highly recommend.

I was on a «Road trip» & my 2003 BMW gave me a check engine immediately light.
I saw other reviews and called Carols. I came in and they checked my car out and told me I did not have to do anything until I returned home my car was safe to drive etc. So honest and helpful he even spoke with my mechanic on the phone. I was ready for an expensive repair, they could have told me anything as i was not in a position to question them. Friendly, great, honest .gave me peace of mind for the rest of my trip.

I came here in December 2014 for the first time since a check engine light was on and after a thorough diagnosis, a leak on water pump was found. Carlos gave me a quote after searching the database on his computer and I knew it was a very fair quote compared to other car shops I called in advance. The water pump replacement took about 5 hours and, of course, check engine light was gone after the amazing work.
Today, It was my second visit to High Tech Auto for an oil and filter change, car was ready within 45 mins while I enjoyed my iced coffee in the McDonald across the street. Carlos did a tire pressure check and filled in air to have all tires at 30 PSI before I even asked him to! Carlos and his technicians are very professional, honest, efficient and friendly.
I trust Carlos and I would definitely come back in the future. High recommended to anyone else who is still looking for a trustworthy mechanic while not worrying about getting ripped off.

These guys are great! I take my car here for every oil change I get. Carlos is the best… very helpful and kind! They even took a look at the used car I was gonna buy and told me what was wrong with it. I will always recommend these guys to every person looking for a trustworthy mechanic. It can get a little busy there so you might have to wait a little longer then a chain… but that’s because they’re so great.

I came here on a coupon for an oil change at a very good price. They honored the coupon without any b.s., and did not do any high pressure repair pitch, although they did point out a few things to get fixed. On further investigation, some were just based on the mileage, and had already been taken care of, but others were legit.
I was impressed by their honesty and would go back for an oil change any time.

Just moved to Santa Monica so I was searching around for a new spot to get my oil changed. High Tech Auto quoted me the most competitive price out of everywhere I called for high end synthetic Mobil 1 oil.
They don’t take appointments so you may have to wait a short time while they do their work, but no big deal I expected to on such short notice.
There were multiple other customers getting their cars worked on that commented they had been coming here for years… Always a good sign to see loyal customers coming back, I know I will now!!!

So once again I head to Carlos, this time to repair my drivers side door lock and once again he did not disappoint. The job was done within a few hours and I was off and driving again.
